This study evaluated biological pollution in the Tigris River within Baghdad City during 2024 using bacterial indicators and selected physicochemical parameters. Two sampling stations were selected near the Sharq Dijla and Al-Karama drinking-water purification plants. Fifty samples from each station were collected monthly from January to December 2024 and analyzed for turbidity, total coliforms, fecal coliforms, E. coli, and total viable bacterial counts using conventional culture and dilution-based plate-count methods. Turbidity ranged from 16 to 220 NTU and exceeded the permissible limit. Total coliforms, fecal coliforms, and E. coli also exceeded accepted drinking-water limits, indicating substantial fecal and microbiological contaminati

It is the repetition or duplication of words; however; it has been argued that every repetition is not a tautology. Poets use this part of speech in their work for many years. Owing to its principal use in poems, it deserves an investigatory research work. This study aims at analyzing ‘tautologies’ in William Wordsworth’s poem “The Thorn” from the viewpoint of stylistic analysis. This analysis can show the significance of the use of tautological words to conclude whether tautologies produce redundancy or make a poem beautiful. Leech (1969) is the model adop

To the researcher’s best knowledge, this topic received little attention from linguistic researchers, exceptionally in functional grammar analysis. The importance of this study arises from the fact that some syntactic forms are effective linguistic choices for conveying the meaning of emphasis to the readers. The study aims to identify and analyze different types of linguistic constructions in English and Arabic scientific texts and show the similarities and differences between the two types of scientific texts under investigation. The study intends to analyze the structure of complex clauses by adopting Halliday and Matthiessen’s (2004) modal of

Show MoreThe researchers address the role of artificial intelligence in developing the performance of institutions and the opportunities and challenges they face, as it highlights how to improve administrative performance and make decisions efficiently using smart technologies. The researcher gives a comprehensive view of the impact of artificial intelligence on developing the performance of institutions in the digital transformation, as well as how to employ artificial intelligence in a number of institutions, and with reference to some smart applications.
Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were synthesized by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) using ferrocene as the carbon and iron-catalyst precursor and were evaluated for antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli ATCC 25,922. The as-grown material was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). The characterization results confirmed the formation of graphitized multi-walled nanotube structures and the presence of iron-containing residues derived from the ferrocene precursor. Antibacterial activity was assessed by agar well diffusion, broth microdilution, and viable-count plating. A concentration-dependent reduction

Some of the major contaminants affecting freshwater bodies are industrial effluents, agricultural effluents, domestic effluents and novel contaminants like pharmaceuticals and micro plastics among others. The effects of these stressors on the quality of water, biodiversity, ecosystem services and quality-added water scarcity. Climate change, population increase, and socioeconomic differences in access to clean water further increase the impact of water pollution on environmental sustainability. Sustainable solutions involve a combined and preventative solution, such as nature-based solutions, h

Show MoreIn linguistics, a binomial pair or binomial is a sequence of two ormore words or phrases belonging to the same syntactic category, having somesemantic relationship and joined by some syntactic devices such as 'and' or 'or'.Examples in English include: 'life and death, 'cease and desist', 'directly orindirectly', etc.Danet (1985:233) points out that "the legal register is striking for its useof elaborate parallel structures". She adds that "binomials expressions are aspecial case of parallelism". Furthermore, Gustafsson (1975:123) writes "in legalEnglish, binomials are 4-5 times more common than in other texts and they arestyle markers in law language". The present study falls into two parts. The first part aims at describingthe features of

Show MoreThis paper investigates the persuasive strategies of English and Arabic psychological advertisements through a multimodal discourse analysis, underlining their cultural and linguistic differences. This research paper is important because it has focused on the conceptual aspect of mental health, aiming to reveal how the interplay of visual and verbal elements constructs meaning and influences perception. This study, based on both qualitative and quantitative approaches, investigates 5 advertisements from each language using Kress and van Leeuwen's 2006 framework of Systemic Functional Grammar and semiotics. Results showed sharp differences whereby while the focal factors of English advertisements were directed at individualism, Ethos appeal,

Show MoreThis paper examines bullying discourse in English posts on the X platform through a socio-critical discourse analysis, focusing on the linguistic and visual strategies through which bullying is constructed and sustained in digital interaction. Adopting a qualitative approach, the research analyzes 10 English posts using Fairclough’s (2001) Critical Discourse Analysis model to examine textual features, alongside Kress and van Leeuwen’s (2006) framework for analyzing visual meaning. The findings indicate that bullying discourse is shaped by implicit power relations, strategic lexical choices, evaluative language, and visual cues that function to intimidate, marginalize, or delegitimize targeted individuals. By demonstrating how language a
