يتناول هذا البحث لهجات شبه الجزيرة العربية وهي مجموعة من اللهجات التي تنتمي إلى اسرة لغوية واحدة وقد عمدنا إلى هذا المصطلح الذي اطلقته الدكتورة ولاء صادق الأسدي نسبة إلى الموقع الذي انطلقت منه القبائل الناطقة بتلك اللهجات وهو شبه الجزيرة العربية ,وقد تم اطلاق لفظة اللهجات بدلا من (اللغات) على اعتبار ان تلك اللهجات منبثقة من لغة جامعة واحدة وهي ما يطلق عليها اللغة الأم لتلك اللهجات وإن ذكرنا في هذا البحث الاختلافات في المصطلح الذي تم اطلاقه على تلك الأقوام حسب آراء العلماء , ثم عمدنا إلى ذكر المهد الأصلي للهجات شبه الجزيرة العربية، بعد ان بذل العلماء والباحثون جهدا كبيرا في تحديد الموطن الأول للتلك وان كان تحديدهم للموطن يعتمد على مناطق طرد السكان وجذبهم في هجراتهم التي يتنقلون خلالها من مكان إلى آخر , ومن ثم نعمد إلى توضيح ما تصنف به عائلة لهجات شبه الجزيرة العربية إلى مجموعات لغوية على وفق التوزيع الجغرافي أو التشابه اللغوي إلى عدة مجموعات نتمكن من خلالها تأصيل تلك اللهجات والتعرف عليها .
جاء هذا البحث في اربع مباحث تناول المبحث الاول الاطار العام للبحث ،وتناول المبحث الثاني (الدراسة النظرية) بيان تاريخ المعجمات اللغوية والتعريف بها وباهدافها ووظائفها وانواعها والمادة التي تناولتها وتنظيمها وترتيبها ،وتناول المبحث الثالث(الدراسة العملية) التعريف بالمعجمات اللغوية الورقية والمحوسبة المتوافرة في مكتبات عينة البحث وبيان مدى استعمالها من طلبة الدراسات العليا ، وتناول المبحث الرابع الاستنتاج
