המילה היא יחידה בסיסית ב שפה המתאפיינת בכך שיש לה משמעות ייחודית וביטוי פונטי )בשפה מדוברת (, גרפי
)בכתיבה( או מרחבי )בשפת סימנים. ובעיקר המונח מילה מתייחס ל שפות טבעיות או לשפות מתוכננות , אבל הוא קיים
גם בשפות מלאכותיות כגון שפות תכנות או שפות לוגיקה . בית היא מהמילות שראינו צריך לחקור אותה מתוך
משמצאנו בה מתפקידים גדולים בפעולה חשובה בתולדות הלשון עהברית שהיא התחדיש, פעולה זו שנכנסה לעברית אחרי
החייאתה בתחילת המאה הֿ 20 . הבלשנים והסופרים העבריים שיחקו תפקיד גדול בהתגבשות החשיבות הבולטת של
המילה בית בעשיית ובהמצאת הביטויים והצירופים העבריים שנעשה להם מקום חשוב בהרכבת משפטי השפה העברית ,
למשל בית חֿולים, בית נֿבחרים ועוד. ולמרות שבית היא מילה מקראית אלא שהיא תפסה מקום נכבד בתחדיש הצירופים
המחודשים מתוך ביאתה עם מילים שונות מבחינת התקופה , כלומר מילים מקראיות , חז"ליות, ימי בֿיניימיות וחדשות ,
ופה מופיעה חשיבותה של מילה זו.
