Effects of Pressure and Moisture Content on Bulk Density of Triticale Grain under Compaction
...Show More Authors

Highlights

Compaction of triticale grain with three moisture contents (8%, 12%, and 16% wet basis) was measured at five applied pressures (0, 7, 14, 34, and 55 kPa).

Bulk density increased with increasing pressure for all moisture contents and was significantly (p < 0.0001) dependent on both moisture content and applied pressure.

A Verhulst logistic equation was found to model the changes in bulk density of triticale grain with R2 of 0.986.

The model showed similar behavior to that of wheat and rye, indicating that the results of this study can be used with the methods of ASABE Standard S413 to predict the quantity of triticale grain stored in bins.

Abstract. The objective of this study was to determine the combined effects of moisture content (MC) and pressure on the changes in bulk density of triticale grain under compaction at conditions typical of those seen in storage structures and to develop mathematical models to describe the compression behavior. Triticale compaction was measured at three MCs (8%, 12%, and 16% wet basis) and four compaction pressures (7, 14, 34, and 55 kPa) using a square metal box based on the design used in an earlier study by Thompson and Ross. Data from the compaction tests were used to calculate bulk densities for the three MCs and four pressures. Bulk densities were found to be significantly (p < 0.0001) dependent on both MC and pressure. Bulk densities varied with increasing MC, as has been observed in similar studies for other agricultural grains such as rye and wheat. These results provide guidance for estimating the bulk density of triticale in bins and other storage structures. The Verhulst logistic equation was found to best describe the changes in bulk density of triticale caused by rearrangement of the grain kernels at lower pressures for the three MCs. At higher pressures, the grain was observed to be more compliant, and Hooke’s law was used to accurately describe the observed changes. Data from the compaction tests were used to estimate the model parameters, with a correlation coefficient (R2) of 0.986. The model was then used in WPACKING to compare the results of this study to pack factor predictions for triticale and wheat. WPACKING is a computer program that is the basis for ASABE Standard S413. The results of this comparison showed that this method can be used with the methods of ASABE Standard S413 to predict the quantity of triticale grain stored in bins. The Effect of Type of Fiber in Density and Splitting Tensile Strength of SIFCON
...Show More Authors

SIFCON is characterized as a construction material of high ductility and very high strength. It is suitable for concrete structures used for special applications. However, the density of SIFCON is much higher than that of Fiber Reinforced Concrete (FRC) due to the need for a large amount of high-density steel fibers. This work examines the split tensile behavior of modified weight slurry infiltrated fiber concrete utilizing a mixture of two types of fibers, steel fiber, and polyolefin fiber. For the investigation, 30 cylinders and 15 cubes were poured. The used volume fraction (V.F) is (6 %) and the use of five series once as each type separately and once a hybrid in proportions of 2/3 polyolefin with 1/3 steel fiber and

Recovery of methyl orange from aqueous solutions by bulk liquid membrane process facilitated with anionic carrier
...Show More Authors

Dyes are extensively water-soluble and toxic chemicals. The disposing of wastewater rich with such chemicals has severely impacted surface water quality (rivers and lakes). In the current study, an anionic dye, methyl orange, were extracted from wastewater fluids using bulk liquid membranes supplemented with an anionic carrier (Aliquat 336 (QCI)). Parameters including solvent type (carbon tetrachloride and chloroform), membrane stirring speed (100-250 rpm), mixing speed of both phases (50-100 rpm), The feed pH (2-12) and implemented temperature (35-60 °C) were thoroughly analyzed to determine the effect of such variables on extraction effectiveness. Furthermore, the effect of methyl orange (10-50 ppm) in the feed stage and NaOH (0

Experimental Evaluation of Moisture Damage and Rutting Resistance for SBS Modified Warm Mix Asphalt Incorporating Recycled Asphalt Concrete
...Show More Authors

The efforts embedded in this paper have been devoted to designing, preparing, and testing warm mix asphalt (WMA) mixtures and comparing their behavior against traditional hot mix asphalt mixtures. For WMA preparation, the Sasobit wax additive has been added to a 40/50 asphalt binder with a concentration of 3%. An experimental evaluation has been performed by conducting the Marshall together with volumetric properties, indirect tensile strength, and wheel tracking tests to acquire the tensile strength ratio (TSR), retained stability index (RSI), and rut depth. It was found that the gained benefit of reduction in mixing and compaction temperatures was reversely associated with a noticeable decline in Marshall properties and moisture s

Study of the Effect of Diabetes Mellitus I on Bone Mineral Density of Upper and Lower Limbs by Dual-Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry
...Show More Authors

Background: Bone mineral density (BMD) has been assessed using Dual-Energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA). This procedure is considered to be of vital importance in assessing the general condition of individuals concerning their skeletal mineralization. BMD is measured according to the results of the DEXA examination of the vertebral column and pelvis. Although diabetes mellitus (D.M.)is known to affect BMD, the information regarding this relationship is not currently particularly clear. Objective: This study concentrates on the point that the assessment of BMD for the vertebral column is insuffi-cient to give a realistic and correct picture of the mineralization of the remaining part of the skeleton. Besides, this study elicited a gen

Effect of aluminum content on the structural, morphology, and electrical properties of Al1-xSbxthin films
...Show More Authors
Abstract<p>Bulk AlxSb1-x samples were prepared with different x ratios (0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7 and 0.9) by quenching technique. This was done throughout mixing the aluminum and antimony elements according to the proper atomic weight and put them in an evacuated quartz ampoule which then sealed and heated at 1273 K for five hours and left to cool in air. Thin films of AlxSb1-xwere prepared by using thermal evaporation under vacuum of 10-5 mbar on glass substrates at room temperature with deposition rate (10-15nm/min) at thickness of ∼ 500nm. The structures of AlxSb1-x bulk and thin films have been studied by X–ray diffraction technique. The results showed that all alloys have polycrystalline structures and the p</p> ... Show More
