Production and Evaluation of Biodiesel from Sheep Fats Waste
...Show More Authors

Animal fats are a good, promising and ethical alternative source for biodiesel production, but they need more complex treatments than vegetable oils. Iraqi butchery plants waste fats (sheep fat) which are suggested as feedstock to produce biodiesel. This type of fat contains a large quantity of free fatty acids (FFAs) (acid number 49.13 mg KOH/g of fat). The direct transesterification of such fats produce high amount of soap instead of desired biodiesel, so a pre-treatment step (to reduce FFAs) is necessary before transesterification. This step was done by esterification of the free fatty acids in the fat by adding ethanol and using 1% acid catalyst (H2SO4) for 30 minutes. The results showed that the acid number of sheep fat after pre-tr

Identification and optimization of production bottleneck in a deviated oil well: a case study using nodal analysis
...Show More Authors

Hydrocarbons play a substantial role in the energy industry; however, maintaining a steady and optimal production rate in deviated wells remains a significant challenge, especially due to flow bottlenecks that reduce output efficiency. This study focuses on identifying and resolving production constraints in a deviated well located in the TK oil field in North Iraq with a total measured depth of 9639.5 ft. The true vertical depth is at 8137 ft. at an inclination angle of 39.90o. The well failed to meet the pre-evaluated rate of 1044 STB/D based on the current conditions. To accomplish the optimum rate, the deviated well S17 is subjected to nodal analysis and various possible alterations in the well geometry and production

Estimation of static modulus of carbonate formation for Rumaila oil field
...Show More Authors

Elastic parameters are essential for understanding the behavior of materials under stress, including their tendency for deformation and failure. Elastic modulus is a key parameter, which can be determined using static and dynamic methods. Dynamic methods involve analyzing properties from well logging such as density and wave velocity (compressional and shear waves), while static techniques quantify properties in a laboratory setting.  While static techniques are the most accurate, they are also expensive and time consuming. However, there are correlations available to estimate static modules from dynamic modules, although many are specific to certain formations and not applicable to different rock types. In this paper, a new correlation

Understanding capillary pressure profiles during gas-brine coreflooding is essential for analyzing fluid behavior in porous media, particularly in gas reservoirs. Direct measurement of capillary pressure in dynamic displacement experiments relies on evaluating the balance between capillary forces and pressure gradients within the porous structure. In this experimental study three rock samples were taken from a natural gas reservoir located on Australia's Northwest Shelf. Experiments were conducted under simulated reservoir conditions (~ 41.37 MPa and 368.15 K) to investigate the effects of pore size, porosity, and water saturation on the capillary pressure profile. The capillary pressure curves (Samples C1–C3) reveal distinct dyna

Greenfield development planning is a challenging problem due to the complex objective function and the large number of variables. While stochastic algorithms and data-driven offline surrogate models have been used to locate and control wells, these methods often require a large number of runs or fail to reach an accurate optimal solution. For this reason, the current study aimed to develop a dynamic surrogate model updated after each evaluation, referred to as an active learning model. In this study, deepEnsemble and gaussian process (GP) algorithms were applied as an active alternative model. This approach was compared with optimization algorithms directly coupled with real simulations, where algorithms such as genetic algorithms (

Dissolving Precipitated Asphaltenes Inside Oil Reservoirs Using Local Solvents
...Show More Authors

There are several oil reservoirs that had severe from a sudden or gradual decline in their production due to asphaltene precipitation inside these reservoirs. Asphaltene deposition inside oil reservoirs causes damage for permeability and skin factor, wettability alteration of a reservoir, greater drawdown pressure. These adverse changing lead to flow rate reduction, so the economic profit will drop. The aim of this study is using local solvents: reformate, heavy-naphtha and binary of them for dissolving precipitated asphaltene inside the oil reservoir. Three samples of the sand pack had been prepared and mixed with a certain amount of asphaltene. Permeability of these samples calculated before and after mixed with asphaltenes. Then, the
