The large protein clumps in dairy effluent make it harder for microbes to break down the waste, making traditional biological treatment methods less effective. This research generated an extracellular protease from Pseudomonas aeruginosa, partially purified it, and utilized it as an enzymatic pretreatment to improve substrate accessibility for biological processes. The purification method, which included ammonium sulfate precipitation and dialysis, raised the specific activity from 1.21 to 20.26 U mg −1 . This meant that the active enzyme fraction had been made stronger. Size-exclusion high-performance liquid chromatography (SEC-HPLC) was used to evaluate molecular changes in protein-rich wastewater. Following enzymatic treatment, chromatographic profiles showed a big change from early-eluting high-molecular-weight protein fractions to late-eluting low-molecular-weight peptides. This was clear proof of proteolytic cleavage. This structural transformation significantly altered on the physical and chemical properties of organic nitrogen, but it didn’t change the amount of organic matter. Biodegradability studies showed that samples that had been treated with enzymes used more oxygen in the first stage of decomposition. The high biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and chemical oxygen demand (COD) levels did not mean that pollution was getting worse instead, they meant that microbial oxidation was happening faster because bacteria could get to soluble substrates more easily. The BOD/COD ratio showed that the speed of biodegradation was getting better. Enzymatic hydrolysis turned slowly biodegradable particulate COD into soluble parts that break down quickly. A mechanistic link exists between protein fragmentation and improved biological treatment effectiveness when enzyme purification, molecular-scale chromatographic analysis, and biodegradation performance evaluation are utilized simultaneously. The findings demonstrate that protease-based pretreatment is a viable and energy-efficient approach for mitigating hydrolysis issues in activated sludge systems. This could be a good way to deal with dairy waste that is high in protein.
The aim of the present research is to investigate the effecting of pH parameter on the feasibility of lead removal from simulated wastewater using an electrochemical system. Electrocoagulation method is one of electrochemical technology which is used widely to treat industrial wastewater. Parameters affecting this operation, such as initial metal concentration, applied current, stirrer speed, and contact time of electroprocessing were taken as 155ppm, 1.5 Ampere, 150 rpm, 60 minutes respectively. While pH of the simulated wastewater was in the range of 2 to 12 in the experiments. It was found from the results that pH is an important parameter affecting lead removal operation. The best value of pH parameter is appro

Show MoreThe removal of COD from wastewater generated by petroleum refinery has been investigated by adopting electrocoagulation (EC) combined with adsorption using activated carbon (AC) derived from avocado seeds. The process variables influencing COD removal were studied: current density (2–10 mA/cm2), pH (4–9), and AC dosage (0.2–1 g/L). Response surface methodology (RSM) based on Box–Behnken design (BBD) was used to construct a mathematical model of the EC/AC process. Results showed that current density has the major effect on the COD removal with a percent of contribution 32.78% followed by pH while AC dosage has not a remarkable effect due to the good characteristics of AC derived from avocado seeds. Increasing current density gives be

Show MoreTo evaluate the disposal effluent from the Al-Daura refinery in Iraq, which comprises oily wastewater, a mathematical model has been developed for both forward osmosis (FO) and osmotic membrane bioreactor (OsMBR). The procedure is explained mathematically, accounting for both the concentration and polarization aspects. As a result of mathematical modeling, the water flux was determined by the osmotic pressure, the concentration, and the polarization of the feed and draw solutions. Based on traditional methods of predicting water flux using external and internal concentration polarizations, it is determined that water flux will occur in the first model (Model-1). To increase the accura
In the present work advanced oxidation process, photo-Fenton (UV/H2O2/Fe+2) system, for the treatment of wastewater contaminated with oil was investigated. The reaction was influenced by the input concentration of hydrogen peroxide H2O2, the initial amount of the iron catalyst Fe+2, pH, temperature and the concentration of oil in the wastewater. The removal efficiency for the system UV/ H2O2/Fe+2 at the optimal conditions and dosage (H2O2 = 400mg/L, Fe+2 = 40mg/L, pH=3, temperature =30o C) for 1000mg/L load was found to be 72%.
This paper was aimed to study the efficiency of forward osmosis (FO) process as a new application for the treatment of wastewater from textile effluent and the factors affecting the performance of forward osmosis process.
The draw solutions used were magnesium chloride (MgCl2), and aluminum sulphate (Al2 ( SO4)3 .18 H2O), and the feed solutions used were reactive red, and disperse blue dyes.
Experimental work were includes operating the forward osmosis process using thin film composite (TFC) membrane as flat sheet for different draw solutions and feed solutions. The operating parameters studied were : draw solutions concentration (10 – 90 g/l), feed solutions concentration (5 – 30 mg/l), draw solutions flow rate (10 – 50 l/hr
The removal of Anit-Inflammatory drugs, namely; Acetaminophen (ACTP), from wastewater by bulk liquid membrane (BLM) process using Aliquat 336 (QCl) as a carrier was investigated. The effects of several parameters on the extraction efficiency were studied in this research, such as the initial feed phase concentration (10-50) ppm of ACTP, stripping phase (NaCl) concentration (0.3,0.5,0.7 M), temperature (30-50oC), the volume ratio of feed phase to membrane phase (200-400ml/80ml), agitation speed of the feed phase (75-125 rpm), membrane stirring speed (0, 100, 150 rpm), carrier concentration (1, 5, 9 wt%), the pH of feed (2, 4, 6, 8, 10), and solvent type (CCl4 and n-Heptane).
