Urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor as a predictive marker for cardiac disease among type 2 diabetic patients
...Show More Authors
Abstract
<title>Background:

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a progressive and chronic disease manifested by β-cell dysfunction and improved insulin resistance. Higher levels of urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptors have been found to predict morbidity and mortality among diabetic patients with cardiac disease.

Objective:

This study aims to explore the role of serum urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor levels as a prognostic marker among type 2 diabetic Iraqi patients.

Materials and Methods:

A total of 70 type 2 diabetic patients (40 male and 30 female) (mean age: 46.20 ± 7.56 years) participated in this study; 35 patients were with cardiovascular disease and 35 were without cardiovascular disease; their ages range were 40–55 years. They were collected from Baghdad Teaching Hospital/Medical City, Baghdad, Iraq through the period from October 2022 to February 2023. Moreover, 30 individuals who were apparent healthy were selected as control group.

Results:

There was significant increase in blood glucose, lipid levels with their ratios, and C-reactive protein in diabetic patients as compared to the control. Also, the present results reveal high levels of urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor (2500.72 ± 12.36 vs. 2255.32 ± 10.15) ρg/mL with OR = 1.80, 95% CI: 1.2, and P = 0.0001 in type 2 diabetic patients with and without cardiovascular disease, respectively, as compared to healthy control (229.00 ± 14.48) ρg/mL. Moreover, this study reveals that female patients had higher levels of serum urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor as compared to the male patients.

Conclusion:

It demonstrated that urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor levels reliably predict morbidity among type 2 diabetic patients presenting with symptoms suggestive of cardiovascular disease.

Flow units and rock type for reservoir characterization in carbonate reservoir: case study, south of Iraq
...Show More Authors
Abstract<p>The current work is focused on the rock typing and flow unit classification for reservoir characterization in carbonate reservoir, a Yamama Reservoir in south of Iraq (Ratawi Field) has been selected, and the study is depending on the logs and cores data from five wells which penetrate Yamama formation. Yamama Reservoir was divided into twenty flow units and rock types, depending on the Microfacies and Electrofacies Character, the well logs pattern, Porosity–Water saturation relationship, flow zone indicator (FZI) method, capillary pressure analysis, and Porosity–Permeability relationship (R35) and cluster analysis method. Four rock types and groups have been identified in the Yamama formation de</p> ... Show More

Background: Breast cancer is the commonest type of malignancy worldwide and in Iraq. It is a serious disease that affects the general health and cause systemic changes that affect the physical and chemical properties of saliva leading to adverse effects on oral health. This study was conducted toassess the tumor marker CA15-3 and selected elements in saliva and their relation to oral health status among breast cancer patients compared to control group. Materials and Methods: The total sample consisted of 60 women aged 35-45 years. 30 women were newly diagnosed with breast cancer before taking any treatment and surgery (study group) and 30 women without clinical signs and symptoms of breast cancer as a control group. Background: Dysfunction of sinoatrial node is a set of abnormal rhythms which are resulted from the sinoatrial node malfunction of the sinus node, the chief natural cardiac pacemaker. The common, and occasionally, the single method for treatment of heart arrhythmias was implantation of pacemaker, which reduce symptoms exactly occurs after implantation. Aim: To detect the role of smoking on cardiac electrophysiology parameters in sinus node dysfunction in Iraqi patients such as SNRT and AH. Methods: A cross sectional study, was conducted on 59 patient ranging between 20-50 years old and involving 35 female and 24 male patients, suffering from an unexplained symptoms of sinoatrial node dysfunction (SND). The enrolled participants were gathere

Comparing the Quality of Life among Patients with Relapsing Remitting Multiple Sclerosis in Iraq Using Different Disease Modifying Therapies
...Show More Authors

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, inflammatory, immune mediated disease of the central nervous system, mostly affecting young adults with mean age of 30 years, twice as high in women compared to men. The etiology of MS is not fully elucidated. MS symptoms are directly related to demyelination and axonal loss, along with other psychological symptoms, can result in functional limitations, disability and reduced quality of life (QoL).  The QoL assessments in patients with a chronic disease may contribute to improving treatment and could even be of prognostic value. The goals  of this study were  to  compare the QoL of  Iraqi patients with relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS),using three different diseas
