Pilot phase of Iraqi Registry of Cardiovascular Diseases in Women: Assessing the Feasibility of Large Data Registry in Absence of Funding
...Show More Authors
Objectives:

Despite that cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the main cause of death in women worldwide and that the existent evidence that women with CVD differs from men with the same diseases from many views including pathophysiological to therapeutic. Yet, there is an unmet need for registries focused on sex differences in CVD, as the first step toward patient-centered trials, guidelines, and protocols. To the best of our knowledge, there has been no prior registry focusing exclusively on CVD in women with sex-focused research questions and methodology thus far.

Materials and Methods:

The Iraqi Registry of Cardiovascular Diseases in Women (IROCW) recruits women who were admitted to the included centers in Iraq. IROCW includes different cardiovascular diseases which are ischemic heart disease, valvular heart disease, heart failure (HF), and arrhythmias. In this paper, we included the results of the pilot phase that was designed and implemented to ensure the feasibility of a large-scale sex-specific cardiovascular registry in Iraq.

Results:

The pilot phase included 150 patients, mean age was 60 years, and 89.3% of patients resided in urban areas. 60% of the women’s family total income was <500 USD. The most common cardiac risk factor is hypertension while menopause and gestational hypertension are the most common sex-specific risk factors. In-hospital echocardiography was done in 26%. In-hospital HF was reported in 20% of patients. Aspirin, P2Y12 inhibitors, heparin, and statin were used in 85.8%, 60.4%, 35.4%, and 87.9%, respectively. B-blockers, angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor (ACEI)/angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs), and mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist (MRA) were used in 71.1%, 62.8%, and 7.2% respectively. Dietary instructions as indicated on discharge were done properly in 96.6%, while smoking cessation counseling and referral for cardiac rehabilitation were not done properly in daily practice. 78% of our pilot population were reachable at 1-month follow-up.

Conclusion:

Up to our knowledge, the IROCW registry is the first sex-focused methodology cardiac registry that will bridge the knowledge gap in clinical characteristics, diagnostic parameters, and management plans in women with CVD, and it will also assess the prognostic benefit of different guideline-directed medical therapies; specifically in women, an issue that is not settled in existing literature. If the second large cohort of IROCW is achieved as planned, it will generate data that can help in establishing a roadmap to decrease the CVD burden in women in Iraq.

Detection of Parvovirus B19 DNA in pregnant Sudanese women attending The Military hospital using Nested PCR technique : Detection of Parvovirus B19 DNA in pregnant Sudanese women
...Show More Authors

Background: Parvovirus B19 is a human pathogenic virus associated with a wide range of clinical conditions. During pregnancy congenital infection with parvovirus B19 can be associated with poor outcome, including miscarriage, fetal anemia and non-immune hydrops.

Objective: The study aimed to determine the prevalenceof Parvovirus B19 DNA in pregnant women attending the Military hospital in Khartoum, demonstrating the association between the virus and poor pregnancy outcomes.

Subjects and methods: This study was a cross sectional study, testing pregnant Sudanese women whole blood samples (n= 97) for the presence of Parvovirus B1

effect of sensory marketing in enhancing customer loyalty by mediating marketing knowledge, survey research in a group of large single market in Baghdad
...Show More Authors

The research aims to measure the effect of sensory marketing (visual marketing, audio marketing, olfactory marketing, taste marketing, tactile marketing) in enhancing customer loyalty (behavioral loyalty, situational loyalty, perceptual loyalty) and the mediating role of marketing knowledge (product knowledge, price knowledge, promotion knowledge knowledge of distribution, knowledge of employees, knowledge of physical evidence, knowledge of the process) in a group of large single market markets in Baghdad and the researcher chose it because of the challenges faced by large single market in satisfying the customer and maintaining it as a permanent visitor and enhancing his loyalty, and the research problem was identified with a main

Assessing the Bearing Capacity of the Strip Footing Resting on the Slope Face
...Show More Authors
Abstract
Infrastructure projects, including buildings, bridges, and towers, in hilly or mountainous areas are frequently constructed on inclined landscapes. This work utilizes finite element limit analysis (FELA) to examine the effect of critical parameters on the ultimate bearing capacity (B.C.) of strip footings (S.F.) situated on slope faces. The analysis examines the impacts of Inclination of the Slope (β), Internal Friction Angle (ϕ), and embedment depth of footing (Df). As the slope angle (β) increased from 10° to 20°, the footing’s ultimate bearing capacity decreased by 55%. Furthermore, the embedded depth shows an important effect on the bearing capacity;
... Electronic Commerce (EC) is an important field due to the many advantages it involves. This study aims to discuss the constraints surrounding educated Iraqi women which results overall lack of entering the EC and to give us additional insight into why they are avoiding entering this world. Results reveal that lack of awareness, lack of government policy and support, language, security and trust are the most important factors that contributes to EC adoption in addition to many other factors

Assessing the Sustainability of Asphalt Stabilized Subgrade Soil for Embankment Construction
...Show More Authors

Gypseous soil is considered as a problematic soil for embankment construction, however, implementation of emulsified asphalt as a stabilization agent could be a proper solution for enhancing its properties as a subgrade soil. In this work, the sustainability of asphalt stabilized soil has been assessed in terms of its resistance to cyclic (freezing-thawing) and (heating-cooling) processes. Specimens have been prepared at optimum fluid content (moisture and emulsion) and tested under direct shear stresses while subjected to 30 cycles of (freezing-thawing) and (heating-cooling). Both of dry and soaked testing conditions have been implemented. Data have been observed after each 10 cycles, and compared with that of reference mix. It was conclud

Assessing the Moisture and Aging Susceptibility of Cold Mix Asphalt Concrete
...Show More Authors

Laboratory experience in Iraq with cold asphalt concrete mixtures is very limited. The design and use of cold mixed asphalt concrete had no technical requirements. In this study, two asphalt concrete mixtures used for the base course were prepared in the laboratory using conventional cold-mixing techniques to test cold asphalt mixture (CAM) against aging and moisture susceptibility. Cold asphalt mixtures specimens have been prepared in the lab with cutback and emulsion binders, different fillers, and curing times. Based on the Marshal test result, the cutback proportion was selected with the filler, also based on the Marshal test emulsion. The first mixture was medium setting cationic emulsion (MSCE) as a binder, hydrate
