Metal Complexes Derived from Mixed Azo-linked Schiff-base Ligand with Dithiocarbamate Derivative: Formation, Spectral Characterization and Biological Study
...Show More Authors

The study includes preparation and characterisation of mixed azo-linked Schiff-base and DTCs ligands and their complexes. The starting material was isolated from the mixing of naphthyl amine diazonium salt with 2-aminophenolein a 1:1 mole ratio in water. In this work, the formation of azo-linked Schiff-base and DTCs ligands are reported. Ligand of the azo-linked Schiff-base was achieved by the reaction of starting material with 4-(dimethylamino)benzaldehyde) (HL1). The DTCs was isolated by the reaction of (C6H5)2NH with carbon disulphide in potassium hydroxide (L2). The complexes were prepared by mixing the azo-linked Schiff-base ligand and DTCs ligand with the metal salts; CoII, NiII, ZnII and CdII in a 1:1:1 mole ratio. Ligands and complexes were characterised by analytical and spectroscopic analyses including; microanalysis, chloride content, thermal analysis, magnetic susceptibility for complexes, conductance, FTIR, UV-Vis and 1H-NMR spectroscopy. Physico-chemical techniques indicated complexes demonstrated four and six coordinate structures in the solid and solution state. Biological activity of the ligands and their metal complexes were screened for their antimicrobial activity against four bacterial species (Escherichia coli and Enterobacter Gram - ve, (Bacillus stubtilis and Staphylococcus aureus Garam + ve.

Experimental Study of Mixed Convection in an Enclosure with a Cold Movable Top Wall and Hot Bottom Wall
...Show More Authors

Mixed convection heat transfer to air inside an enclosure is investigated experimentally. The bottom wall of the enclosure is maintained at higher temperature than that of the top wall which keeps in oscillation motion, whereas the left and right walls are well insulated. The differential temperature of the bottom and top walls changed several times in order to accurately characterize the temperature distribution over a considerable range of Richardson number. Adjustable aspect ratio box was built as a test rig to determine the effects of Richardson number and aspect ratio on the flow behavior of the air inside the enclosure. The flow fields and the average Nusselt number profiles were presented in this wo

Synthesis and Characterization of Some New Pyridine and Pyrimidine Derivatives and Studying Their Biological Activities
...Show More Authors

Heterocyclic systems, which are essential in medicinal chemistry due to their promising cytotoxic activity, are one of the most important families of organic molecules found in nature or produced in the laboratory. As a result of coupling N-(4-nitrophenyl)-3-oxo-butanamide (3) using thiourea, indole-3-carboxaldehyde, or piperonal, the pyrimidine derivatives (5a and 5b) were produced. Furthermore, pyrimidine 9 was synthesized by reacting thiophene-2-carboxaldehyde with ethyl cyanoacetate and urea with potassium carbonate as a catalyst. The chalcones 11a and 11b were synthesized by reacting equal molar quantities of 1-naphthaldehy

Reaction of Thiols with formaldehyde in Presnce of succinimid and Reduction of Phenyl Tetrazole Derivative with Hydrogen and Borohydraide
...Show More Authors

One of most the important compounds which have active hydrogen (substrate) is the thiols which used in a wide field in preparation of Mannich bases . A large number of Mannich bases have been prepared as a biologically active compound (pharmaceutical, pesticides, bactericidal, fungicidal and tuberculostatic) and in order to correlate their structure and reactivity with their pharmacological activity such as . It has been reported that the reaction is easily proceeded by using primary and secondary amine beside formaldehyde. But when we tried the reaction of thiols as substrate and formaldehyde and succinimide instead of amine, the reaction did not proceed to give Mannich base but product were methylenene – bis – sulfide . Determination of the Dissociation Constants of Metformin from a Second Derivative UV Spectrum
...Show More Authors

An environmentally begnin second derivative spectrometric approach was developed for the estimation of the dissociation constants pKa(s) of metformin, a common anti-diabetic drug.  The ultraviolet spectra of the aqueous solution of metformin were measured at different acidities, then the second derivative of each spectrum was graphed. The overlaid second derivative graphs exhibited two isobestic points at 225.5 nm and 244 nm pointing out to the presence of two dissociation constants for metformin pKa1 and pKa2, respectively. The method was validated by evaluating the reproducibility of the acquired results by comparing the estimated values of the dissociation constants of two different strategies that show excellent matching. As we
