EFFECT OF MILTEFOSINE ON THE NUMBERS OF LEISHMANIA DONOVANI AMASTIGOTE IN VL INFECTED MACROPHAGE IN VITRO
...Show More Authors

Introduction:Visceral leishmaniasis (VL), also known as kala-azar, is a diffuse protozoan infection caused by Leishmania donovani complex. VL is principally caused by L. donovani and L. infantum (synonym L. chagasi in South America). The parasite targets the reticulo-endothelial system, with penetration of the spleen, liver, bone marrow and lymph nodes lead to organomegaly and pancytopenia. Organic pentavalent antimonials have been the first-line drugs for the therapy of leishmaniasis for the latest six decades, and clinical resistance to these drugs has emerged as a primary obstacle to successful treatment and control. Miltefosine has been shown to be higher or equivalent to presently approved essential medicines for at least one of visceral, cutaneous or mucosal leishmaniasis. Aim: The aim of this study is to clarify the effect of miltefosine on the number of amastigotes in the VL infected macrophage in vitro, in comparison to the effect of pentostam on the number of amastigote in the VL infected macrophage. Materials & Method:Cells were plated in 96-well tissue culture plate, after incubation, adherent macrophages were infected with Leishmania donovani promastigotes. Infected macrophages were treated with the same concentration of pentostam and miltefosine (1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7 μM). Treated macrophages incubated for 24, 48, 72 hours, and then stained with Gimsa stain. The results of L. donovani infected macrophages show that there were a significant differences between the percentage of infection macrophages in all used concentrations of both drugs. Results:The results show that after 24, 48, 72 hour of treating L. donovani infected macrophages with Sb or HePC, the number of infected macrophages and number of amastigote per macrophage started to decline clearly in the case of HePC, especially at high concentrations of it, in comparison to the number of infected macrophages in the case of Sb. Conclusion: This suggested that miltefosine could be a good therapeutic option for treating all forms of leishmaniasis, including visceral leishmaniasis.

Investigation the effect of the aqueous extract of Chara vulgaris (L.) on visceral leishmaniasis
...Show More Authors
Abstract
<title>Background:

Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) is a parasitic disease that affects public health. It is described by weight reduction, irregular fever bouts, anemia, and amplification of the spleen and liver.

Materials and Methods:

Three concentrations (15.6, 31.2, and 62.5 μg/mL) were used to find the potency of an aqueous extract ofChara vulgarisalgae in the treatment of VL. A cytotoxicity assay was performed to show the cytotoxic effect of this extract on human cells. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) test was done to determine the active compounds in the ext

Laboratory investigation in the Hydrated lime effect on asphalt concrete mixture
...Show More Authors

This investigation was undertaken to evaluate the effectiveness of using Hydrated lime as a (partial substitute) by weight of filler (lime stone powder) with five consecutive percentage namely (1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0) % by means of aggregate treatment, by introducing dry lime on dry and 2–3% Saturated surface aggregate on both wearing and binder coarse. Marshall design method, indirect tensile test and permanent deformation under repeated loading of Pneumatic repeated load system at full range of temperature (20, 40, 60) C0 were examined The study revealed that the use of 2.0% and 1.5 % of dry and wet replacement extend the pavement characteristics by improving the Marshall properties and increasing the TSR%. Finally, increase permanent

Aerodynamic analysis of SD7037 airfoil with flex-skin flap at low angles of attack and low Reynolds numbers
...Show More Authors

This work concentrates on the effect of a flex-skin trailing edge flap on the aerodynamic characteristics of SD7037 airfoil at low Reynolds numbers, in the range of 2^10 to 5^10 using computational methods. The study used a range of angle of attack (AOA) associated with the take-off phase and different flap angles. The numerical model was set up in Siemens STAR-CCM+ package using the κ-ω shear stress transport turbulence model and the (γ-Reθ) transition model which ensured the approximate solution of Navier-Stokes equations. The verification of the computational solution was done by the comparison with the available experimental data of the plain flap, and it was discovered that the results matched pretty well at lower AoAs. Results in

In vivo immunohistochemical investigation of the effect of the topical application of growth hormone on the osseointegration of cpTi implant
...Show More Authors

Background: Dental implants are a suitable option for the replacement of some or all missing teeth. The successful insertion of a biocompatible material into living tissue with little to no evidence of rejection has revolutionized medicine and dentistry. An increase in bone response was observed with local administration of growth hormone around dental implants. Growth hormone may act as a bone stimulant in the placement of endosseous dental implants and enhances osseointegration. The aim of the study was to evaluate immunohistochemically the effect of the topical application of growth hormone on the osseointegration of cpTi implant. Materials and Methods: Eighty titanium screw implants were inserted in the tibia of the forty adult rabbits.

The aim of this study is to know the effect of different percentages of chitosan added to drinking water on the weight and quality of quail meat, physical anatomy in terms of (the body of the long carcass, the girth of the chest, the length of the thigh bones, the thigh racket, the fullness of the chest), chemical analysis (protein, moisture, fat and ash) and sensory evaluation of quail meat. It was purchased 320 Iraqi-origin birds of quail and one day old. Chicks were randomly distributed to three equal groups' treatments and treated with chitosan and added to the drinking water: the first treatment (0.1 gm./L water only as a control treatment), the second treatment (0.2 gm./L of chitosan was added to the drinking water) and the

The Effect of Culture on Language
...Show More Authors

It is believed that culture plays an important role in the ELF classroom activities (Al- Mutawa, & Kilani, 1989:87). It is important for the teacher to recognize potential negative (culturally based) perceptions of their learners. In Iraq, for instance, it is not. Uncommon to meet silent expressionless students that arc supposedly English language learners. It is possible for the beginner to interpret this negatively as a lack of interest in the study of English. This interpretation may play a harmful role in the classroom methodology. An instructor has to be intercultural competent to be an effective teacher. It will be more effective if the instructor adopts a consistent style of instruction to allow learners to adapt within the bounds of
