Development of an Optimized Botnet Detection Framework based on Filters of Features and Machine Learning Classifiers using CICIDS2017 Dataset

Abstract<p>Botnet is a malicious activity that tries to disrupt traffic of service in a server or network and causes great harm to the network. In modern years, Botnets became one of the threads that constantly evolving. IDS (intrusion detection system) is one type of solutions used to detect anomalies of networks and played an increasing role in the computer security and information systems. It follows different events in computer to decide to occur an intrusion or not, and it used to build a strategic decision for security purposes. The current paper <italic>suggests</italic> a hybrid detection Botnet model using machine learning approach, performed and analyzed to detect Botnet attacks using CICIDS2017 dataset. The proposed model designed based on two types of filters to the botnet features; Correlation Attribute Eval and Principal Component deployed to reduce the dataset dimensions and to decrease the time complexity of the botnet detection process. The detection enhancement achieved by reducing the features of the dataset from 85 to 9. The training stage of classifiers is developed and compared based on six classifiers called (Random Forest, IBK, JRip, Multilayer Perceptron, Naive Bayes and OneR) evaluated to accomplish an optimized detection model. The performance and results of the proposed framework are validated using well-known metrics such as Accuracy (ACC), Precision (Pr), Recall (Rc) and F-Measure (F1). The consequence is that the combination of Correlation Attribute Eval (filter) with JRip (classifier) together can satisfy significant improvement in the Botnet detection process using CICIDS2017 dataset.</p>

Objective: To explore the challenges faced in cancer management from the perspectives of physicians. Methods: A qualitative study was conducted between November 2024 and February 2025. Physicians were recruited from three different centers in Baghdad and Karbala using purposive and snowball sampling. The data collection was concluded upon reaching a saturation point. Results: This study included twenty-six oncologists. There was about parity between the two genders, with a slight male predominance.

The Thermal Properties of Gliding arc Plasma Produced by Laboratory Reverse Vortex Flow System

A low-cost reverse flow plasma system powered by argon gas pumping was built using homemade materials in this paper. The length of the resulting arc change was directly proportional to the flow rate, while using the thermal camera to examine the thermal intensity distribution and demonstrating that it is concentrated in the centre, away from the walls at various flow rates, the resulting arc's spectra were also measured. The results show that as the gas flow rate increased, so did the ambient temperature. The results show that the medium containing the arc has a maximum temperature of 34.1 ˚C at a flow rate of 14 L/min and a minimum temperature of 22.6 ˚C at a flow rate of 6 L/min.

Abstract<p>This study was done to determine the concentration of several heavy metals in the water of Al-Saddah agricultural drainage in Al-Saddah District in Babylon Province/Iraq. The concentrations of six heavy metals were measured (Pb, Cd, Cu, Hg, Fe, Zn). It was found that Pb concentration ranged from 0.06 mg/L at St.2 in autumn to 0.13 mg/L at St.2 in winter. Evaluation of Drinking Water Quality in Al Wahda Treatment Plant in Baghdad City- Iraq

This study aims to evaluate drinking water quality at the Al Wahda plant (WTP) in Baghdad city. A conventional water treatment plant with an average flow rate of 72.82 MLD. Water samples were taken from the influent and effluent of the treatment plant and analyzed for some physicochemical and biological parameters during the period from June to November 2020. Role of Bathyplectes curulionis (Thomson) (Hymenoptera : Ichneumoidae) in controlling alfalfa weevil in central Iraq

Bathyplectes curcurlionis (Thomson) is the sole parasitoid encountered in west Baghdad parasitising larvae of alfalfa weevil Hypera postica (GylIenhal). Percent of parasitisation did not exceed 8% in 1989 and 1990 and overall rate of parasitisation was 5%. Additional reduction in percent of parasitisation caused by presence of the fungal pathogen Erynia phytonomi. High survival percent of weevil's larvae under the study conditions explains why this insect is a key pest of alfalfa. Suggestions were made to inhance the role of B. curcurtionis in controlling the weevil.
