Continuous improvement, or Kaizen, is a philosophy that is based on the idea of continuously finding ways to improve things. From this point of view, continuous improvement is not limited to the quality of products or services but it also applies to all the processes in the organization. During the last two decades several continuous improvement approaches were developed and marketed. The advocates of each approach claim that their approach is the best, however all the approaches had their own advantages and disadvantages and had their share of criticism. The important question is how to choose the right continuous improvement approach? This research work addresses the philosophy, the concepts, the assumptions, and the domain of each approach and compares them thoroughly. In addition, we present a theoretical framework to assist the organization in choosing one of the continuous improvement approaches that corresponds to the organization's culture and quality problems.

Show MoreIn this paper a dynamic behavior and control of a jacketed continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR) is developed using different control strategies, conventional feedback control (PI and PID), and neural network (NARMA-L2, and NN Predictive) control. The dynamic model for CSTR process is described by a first order lag system with dead time.
The optimum tuning of control parameters are found by two different methods; Frequency Analysis Curve method (Bode diagram) and Process Reaction Curve using the mean of Square Error (MSE) method. ... Show MoreIn this work, the effect of partial amounts of gases in gas mixture of a CW CO2 laser on the output power was investigated. Also their effect on the condition determining the glow-discharge self-sustaining required for pumping the active medium was studied. Two fit relations were derived to predict the output laser power and the electric field to unit pressure ratio as functions to the partial amounts of gases. Results presented in this work could be used fruitfully to determine some of the optimum operational conditions of glow-discharge low-power CW CO2 lasers.
