School Refusal Behavior of Primary First Class Pupils in Baghdad
...Show More Authors

Objectives: The study aims to assess the school refusal behavior of first class pupils at primary schools and identifying the relationship between the school refusal behavior and some of socio-demographic characteristics for the pupils.

Methodology:  A descriptive-analytic study was initiated from November 1st, 2012 to April 1st, 2013. A random sample of 411 students is selected from a probability stratified sample of 17 primary schools for both sexes in 4 sectors in Baghdad Al-Rasafa and Al-Karkh districts which are selected randomly from first class of primary school. A Self administrative questionnaire (Parents' Version) which constructed by the researcher includes two parts: the socio- demographic variables of the pupils and school refusal behavior scale items. Content validity was determined through the use of panel experts. The internal consistency of the instrument was determined through the computation of Alpha Correlation Coefficient which is statistically acceptable (r = 0.77). Data are analyzed through the application of descriptive and inferential statistical approaches by using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 16.0.

Results: The finding of the study revealed that Most of the pupils are firstborn male live in nuclear family with 1-3 children in the family resident in crowded city; they do not attend preschool or kindergarten. The school refusal behavior has been shown to be low level among pupils. There is positive relationship between gender and child's order and there is moderate relationship among other variables. There is positive relationship between school refusal behavior, family type, and residency place while there is negative relationship between school refusal behavior and numbers of children. The findings reveal also negative relationship between residency place and family type.

Recommendations: The study recommended to conduct research with different variables on a large sample to be national survey for assessing school refusal behavior and exploring school refusal behavior associated with psychiatric problems such as bipolar disorder, depressive disorder and separation anxiety disorder.

Synthesis, Characterization and Antimicrobial Investigations of (Ag, Cu, Ni, Co, Mn and Hg) Complexes with Schiff Base Derived From PVA and Erythro-Ascorbic Acid Derivative
...Show More Authors

The aim of this work is the synthesis of new Schiff base derived from PVA and Erythro-ascorbic acid derivative (pentulosono-ɣ-lactone-2,3-enedianisoate) and its metal complexes of biological significance. All synthesized compounds were characterized by Thin layer chromatography (TLC) and FTIR spectra and aldehyde was also characterized by (U.V-Vis), 1HNMR, 13CNMR and mass spectra. The synthesized Schiff base & its metal complexes were screened for their in vitro antimicrobial activity against five pathogenic bacteria (Escherichia coli, Shigella dysentery,Klebsiellapneumonae,Staphylococcusaureus, Staphylococcus Albus) and two fungal (Aspergillus Niger,Yeast). The biological activity ofall complexes is higher than free Schiff base ligand andf

Background: Obesity typically results from a variety of causes and factors which contribute, genetics included, and style of living choices, and described as excessive body fat accumulation of body fat lead to excessive body, is a chronic disorder that combines pathogenic environmental and genetic factors. So, the current study objective was to investigate the of the FTO gene rs9939609 polymorphism and the obesity risk. Explaining the relationship between fat mass and obesity-associated gene (FTO) rs9939609 polymorphism and obesity in adults. Methods: Identify research exploring the association between the obesity risk and the variation polymorphisms of FTO gene rs9939609. We combined the modified odds ratios (OR) as total groups and subgro

Synthesis, Spectral Characterization and Biological Activity of Schiff Base ligand Derived from 5-amino-2-phenyl-2,4-dihydro3H-Pyrazol-3-one and its Metal Complexes
...Show More Authors

Eight new complexes with the general formula [M(L)2(H2O)2] were prepared resulting from the reaction of the new Schiff base ligand [(E)-5- ((2-hydroxybenzylidene)amino)-2-phenyl-2,4-dihydro-3H-pyrazol-3- one(L)] with metal ions [manganese, cadmium, zinc, copper, nickel, cobalt, Mercury Bivalent and tetravalent platinum. This ligand was derived from the reaction of the amine (5-amino-2-phenyl-2,4-dihydro3H-pyrazol-3-one) with Salicylaldehyde, which is linked to the metal ions via two atoms. The nitrogen is the isomethene group, and the oxygen is the hydroxide group of the pyrazoline ring. The prepared compounds were characterized using infrared spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and ultraviolet spectroscopy, and from the

Preparation, Characterization, Theoretical and Biological Study of new Complexes with mannich base , 2chloro –N-5-(Piperidin -1-ylmethylthio)-1, 3, 4- Thiadiazol-2-yl)acetamide
...Show More Authors

A new Mannich base ligand was prepared by reacting the 2-chloro.-N-(5-mercapto-1, 3, 4-thiadazol -2-yl) acetamide and Piperidine in the presence (formaldehyde) (L) ligand. A series of ligand complexes were prepared from (L) with the metal ion Co (II), Ni (II), Cu (II), Pd (II), Pt (IV), and Au (III). Various spectroscopic techniques such as C.H.N.S, FTIR, UV-VIS, , 1HNMR, 13CNMR, Magnetic moment, and molar conductivity successfully characterize the obtained compounds. The M: L ratio was determined using the molar ratio method in solution. All prepared compounds' antibacterial and antifungal activity was studied against two types of bacteria and one type of fungi at a rate of 0.02M. The standard ΔH° f and ΔEb of the ligands an

Experimental Study of Spatial Self-Phase Modulation (SSPM) Based on Laser Beam and Hybrid Functionalized Carbon Nanotubes/Silver Nanoparticles (F-Mwcnts/Ag-Nps) Acetone Suspensions
...Show More Authors

Focusing of Gaussian laser beam through nonlinear media can induce spatial self- phase modulation which forms a far field intensity pattern of concentric rings. The nonlinear refractive index change of material depends on the number of pattern rings. In this paper, a formation of tunable nonlinear refractive index change of hybrid functionalized carbon nanotubes/silver nanoparticles acetone suspensions (F-MWCNTs/Ag-NPs) at weight mixing ratio of 1:3 and volume fraction of 6x10-6 , 9x10-6 , and 18x10-6 using laser beam at wavelength of 473nm was investigated experimentally. The results showed that tunable nonlinear refractive indices were obtained and increasing of incident laser power density led to increase the nonlinear refractive inde
