Three-Dimensional Explicit Finite Element Simulation of Piled-Raft Foundation
...Show More Authors

This paper aims to validate a proposed finite element model to be adopted in predicting displacement and soil stresses of a piled-raft foundation. The proposed model adopts the solid element to simulate the raft, piles, and soil mass. An explicit integration scheme has been used to simulate nonlinear static aspects of the piled-raft foundation and to avoid the computational difficulties associated with the implicit finite element analysis.

The validation process is based on comparing the results of the proposed finite element model with those of a scaled-down experimental work achieved by other researchers. Centrifuge apparatus has been used in the experimental work to generate the required stresses to simulate the actual geostatic stress on the site. Comparing between numerical and experimental results indicate that the proposed finite element model is accurate and adequate and it can be used in future work to simulate more complicated practical problems of piled-raft foundations.

After its validation, this model was used to investigate the effectiveness of using piled with a raft foundation that subjected to eccentric loading. In this parametric study, the value of eccentricity  was taken equal to , , and . The numerical results indicated that there is a significant decrease in the bearing capacity for unpiled raft foundation compared to the piled raft foundation for the same eccentricity of the applied load.

Lung cancer classification using data mining and supervised learning algorithms on multi-dimensional data set
...Show More Authors

These With recent developments in machine learning, data mining and computer vision, there is great potential for improvements in early detection of lung cancer using scans and data available. This paper details the methods and techniques used in our project, where the objective is to develop algorithms to determine whether a patient has or is likely to develop lung cancer using dataset images using data mining and machine learning for the classification and examination. We explore approaches to address the problem. Cancer is the most important cause of death globally. The disease diagnosis is a major process to treat the patients who are affected by cancer disease. The diagnosis process is more difficult comparatively known about t

Estimation of the linear dimensional changes of autoclave cured acrylic resin with multiple palatal depths and investment materials
...Show More Authors

Background: Dimensional changes of acrylic denture bases after polymerization results in need for further adjustments or even ends with technical failure of the finished dentures. The purpose of this study was to estimate the linear dimensional changes for different palatal depths when using multiple investment materials and polymerization techniques. Materials and methods: Ninety upper complete denture bases were constructed for this study. They were divided into two main groups according to the polymerization methods: conventional water bath and experimental autoclave (short and long cycles). Each main group was further subdivided into three subgroups according to the palatal depth (shallow, medium and deep). Furthermore, for each palatal

Simulation based comparison of routing protocols in wireless multihop adhoc networks
...Show More Authors

Routing protocols are responsible for providing reliable communication between the source and destination nodes. The performance of these protocols in the ad hoc network family is influenced by several factors such as mobility model, traffic load, transmission range, and the number of mobile nodes which represents a great issue. Several simulation studies have explored routing protocol with performance parameters, but few relate to various protocols concerning routing and Quality of Service (QoS) metrics. This paper presents a simulation-based comparison of proactive, reactive, and multipath routing protocols in mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs). Specifically, the performance of AODV, DSDV, and AOMDV protocols are evaluated and analyz

Simulation of Heat Storage and Heat Regeneration in Phase Change Material
...Show More Authors

The present study explores numerically the energy storage and energy regeneration during Melting and Solidification processes in Phase Change Materials (PCM) used in Latent Heat Thermal Energy Storage (LHTES) systems. Transient two-dimensional (2-D) conduction heat transfer equations with phase change have been solved utilizing the Explicit Finite Difference Method (FDM) and Grid Generation technique. A Fortran computer program was built to solve the problem. The study included four different Paraffin's. The effects of container geometrical shape, which included cylindrical and square sections of the same volume and heat transfer area, the container volume or mass of PCM, variation of mass flow rate of heat transfer fluid (HTF), and temp

SIMULATION AND EVALUATION OF SLIDING MODE CONTROLLER FOR ELBOW EXOSKELETON SYSTEMS
...Show More Authors

Joint dysfunction disables are impacting millions of individuals worldwide. It significantly interferes with essential daily tasks like eating, drinking, and writing, often making self-care challenging for those affected. Exoskeleton robots are developed to enable individuals with impaired physical functions to perform daily activities and maintain independence. This study introduces a wearable exoskeleton control system for the elbow joint designed, providing an alternative assistive solution to traditional treatment methods. The elbow exoskeleton system used for therapy has nonlinearity and time-dependent parameters. To address these challenges, this work presents a sliding mode control (SMC) for tracking the path of an EES. To reduce the
