Remediation of Contaminated Soil with Petroleum Industrial Wastewater
...Show More Authors

The contamination of soil with the wastes of oil industry products that are complex mixtures of hydrocarbons increased recently due to the large development of oil industries in Iraq. This study deals with the remediation of low permeability contaminated clayey soil by using the enhanced electrokinetic technique (EK). The contaminated soil samples obtained from Thi-Qar oil refinery plant in Al-Nassyriah city, where the byproducts of refinery plant are disposed into that site. The byproduct contaminant treated as total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) to avoid dealing and complexity of treating the individual minerals and compounds consisting the contaminant. The initial concentrations of TPH were (702.7, 1168, 1235) ppm in the contaminated soil samples NA10, NA11, and NA12  respectively. The remediation technique includes a bench-scale experimental study by applying the enhanced electrokinetic test on the soil sample NA12  that contains the higher concentration of TPH in compared with other soil samples. A constant DC voltage gradient of 1.0 VDC/cm was applied for a period of 10 days. This  echnology was enhanced by using flushing solution of ethanol and deionized water, which was mixed in ratios of 30% and 70% respectively. The results of this study showed that the removal of TPH at the anode was about 15% and the concentration of TPH decreased at anode, which reflect the migration of TPH towards the cathode.

Abstract

Objective(s): To evaluate the nurses` practices for children who diagnosed with febrile convulsion.

Methodology: A quantitative research, descriptive correlational design was used in this study, the study conducted on nurses who work in Al-Diwaniya Pediatrics Teaching Hospital-Iraq for Maternal and Children period from 12th September 2021 to 10th October 2022. A non- probability (convenience) sample has been applied to obtain the study goals. The study sample was (21) nurses who participate in the study. The study tool is composed of two parts: The first part is concerned with collection of nurses socio-demographic data obta

Numerical Study of Solar Chimney with Absorber at Different Locations
...Show More Authors

Heat transfer process and fluid flow in a solar chimney used for natural ventilation are investigated numerically in the present work. Solar chimney was tested by selecting different positions of absorber namely: at the back side, front side, and at the middle of the air gap. CFD analysis based on finite volume method is used to predict the thermal performance, and air flow in two dimensional solar chimney under unsteady state condition, to identify the effect of different parameters such as solar radiation. Results show that a solar chimney with absorber at the middle of the air gap gives better ventilation performance. A comparison between the numerical and previous experimental results shows fair agreement.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION WITH A CHECKLIST OF LAND SNAILS IN IRAQ
...Show More Authors

Land snails constitute an important group of mollusks distributed worldwide. This study reports on land snails found in Iraq. A survey of terrestrial gastropods was performed during their activity seasons in gardens, agricultural lands and nurseries in Iraq from March 2022 to September 2023. Fifteen terrestrial snails belonging to seven families were documented. The species Euchondrus michonii (Bourguignat, 1853) was identified and recorded based on several distinct conchological characters for the first time in Iraq. The recently collected specimens, along with those previously recorded in Iraq, were included in this checklist. Essential information on each species is also presented. As there is no previous checklist or study that

Mitotic activity of cultured human lymphocytes treated with gold nanoparticles
...Show More Authors

Potential health and environmental effects of nanoparticles need to be thoroughly assessed before their widespread commercialization. The present investigation was planned with the aims to determine the effects of gold nanoparticles (GNPs) on blast (BI) and mitotic (MI) indices of cultured lymphocytes. The results revealed that BI (50.3±2.3, 30.2±1.9, 10.5±0.7 and 0.0%, respectively) and MI (70.1±2.9, 20.4±1.1, 5.3±0.1 and 0.0%, respectively) showed a gradual decreased percentage as the concentration of GNPs was increased from 0.085 to 0.66 µg/mL, and the difference was significant compared to control culture (81.6±2.5 and 90.2±3.7%, respectively). A maximum inhibition of BI and MI was occurred at the concentration 0.66 µg/mL. In
