EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF LAMINAR NATURAL CONVECTION HEAT TRANSFER IN A RECTANGULAR ENCLOSURE WITH AND WITHOUT INSIDE PARTITIONS
...Show More Authors

Experimental study has been conducted for laminar natural convection heat transfer of air flow through a rectangular enclosure fitted with vertical partition. The partition was oriented parallel to the two vertical isothermal walls with different temperatures, while all the other surfaces of the enclosure were insulated. In this study a test rig has been designed and constructed to allow studying the effect of Rayleigh number, aperture height ratio, partition thickness, the position of aperture according to the side walls and according to the height, the position of the partition according to the hot wall, and partition inclination. The experiments were carried out with air as the working fluid for Rayleigh number range (5*107 – 1.3*108) and aspect ratio of (0.5). 22 different configurations of partition were used in this study these are:
a) Undivided enclosure (no – partition).
b) (21) Cork partitions of different shapes.
Empirical correlations for average Nusselt number are obtained for the different cases tested. The results show that heat transfer is independent on the partition position according to the cold wall and according to the upper or lower walls, while it shows that heat transfer is sensitive to:
1. Rayleigh number (Ra), which increase with increasing Ra.
2. Aperture height ratio (Ap=hp/H), which is found that when Ap= 5/6 (case 2,3), the reduction in heat transfer is 10.3%, while when Ap=1/2 (case 4,5), the reduction is 17.2% compared with the non partitioned enclosure.
3. Aperture position according to the height, which is found that when the aperture at the centre of the partition (case 13), the reduction in heat transfer is 16.7%, while when the aperture displaced to the upper surface (case 14), the reduction is 19% compared with the non partitioned enclosure.
4. Partition thickness (t), which is found that when t = 10 mm (case 4,5) the reduction in heat transfer is 17.2%, while when t = 150 mm (case 16) the reduction is 20.5% compared with the non partitioned enclosure.
5. Partition inclination (), which is found that the rate of heat transfer reduced with increasingas shown:
a. For = 30 toward the cold wall (case 22), the reduction in heat transfer is 18.2%.
b. For = 45 toward the cold wall (case 18), the reduction in heat transfer was 21.9%.
c. For = 60 toward the cold wall (case 20), the reduction in heat transfer is 30.2%.
d. For = 30 toward the hot wall (case 21), the reduction in heat transfer is 31.3%.
e. For = 45 toward the hot wall (case 17), the reduction in heat transfer is 40.7%.

f. For = 60 toward the hot wall (case 19), the reduction in heat transfer is 42.1%.

The Measurements of Maxillary Alveolar Bone Density at 13-15 Years Age by Using Spiral Computerized Tomography
...Show More Authors

Background: Bone density is a major factor that affect mini implant primarily stability; no Iraqi studies have evaluated bone density related to mini-implant placement for orthodontic anchorage at age 13 -15 years. The present research aims to evaluate gender, side and site differences in the bone density at various orthodontic implant sites for the maxillary alveolar bone. Materials and methods: Twenty nine individuals (16 males and 13 females) had subjected to clinical examination, then 64-multislice computed tomography scan data were evaluated and bone density was measured in Hounsfield unit at 21 points (9 points for each side and 3 points between the right and left central incisors) . Results: The results obtained showed that there ar

Villages in most rural areas of the developing world, including Iraq, suffer from a deterioration in the urban structure in its various aspects, both in the lack of internal planning in terms of residential unit design which is not commensurate with the sustainable health life, in addition to the lack of infrastructure and community services networks As well as road networks linking them to neighboring urban centers, which was accompanied by the emergence of other problems, including the desire of the population to migrate to neighboring cities and the deterioration of economic activities due to lack of activation of economic development plans (Rural villages suffer from a lack of interest in urban development within the regional spatial

Development of Bridges Maintenance Management System based on Geographic Information System Techniques (Case study: Al-Muthanna \ Iraq)
...Show More Authors

A Geographic Information System (GIS) is a computerized database management system for accumulating, storage, retrieval, analysis, and display spatial data. In general, GIS contains two broad categories of information, geo-referenced spatial data and attribute data. Geo-referenced spatial data define objects that have an orientation and relationship in two or three-dimensional space, while attribute data is qualitative data that can be counted for recording and analysis. The main aim of this research is to reveal the role of GIS technology in the enhancement of bridge maintenance management system components such as the output results, and make it more interpretable through dynamic colour coding and more sophisticated visualization

Microwave Assisted Demulsification of Iraqi Crude Oil Emulsions Using Tri-octyl Methyl Ammonium Chloride (TOMAC) Ionic Liquid
...Show More Authors

In the present work, the efficiency of Tri-octyl Methyl Ammonium Chloride (TOMAC) ionic liquid was investigated as new and green demulsifier for three types of Iraqi crude oil emulsions (Nafut Khana (NK), Kirkuk and Basrah). The separation efficiency was studied at room temperature and by using microwave heating technique. Several batch experiments were done to specify the suitable conditions for the emulsification and demulsification which were specified as 45 minutes and 3000 rpm for crude oil emulsification while the ionic liquid doses were (500,300,150,50) ppm and the conditions of microwave heating were 1000 watt and 50 second as irradiation time. The results were very encouraging especially for NK and Kirkuk crude oil emulsions whe

Effect of Magnetized Water Treatment on some Biological Aspects for Fresh Water Snail Lymnaea lagotis (Schrank,1803)
...Show More Authors

Exposure assays to magnetized water have so far revealed striking results. The present study was conducted to determine the effects of magnetized water treatment with in different intensities 500 , 1000 and 1500 Gauss on some biological aspects for species of freshwater Gastropod Lymnaea lagotis (Schrank, 1803) which important species in faun of aquatic habitats of Iraq. This species are considered a component of the food chain. The obtained results compared with these species which lived in the river(control). Result of these experiments showed increased significance the shell size (shell high, shell aperture length, shell aperture width and shell width) for L. lagotis with increased intensity magnetized water such as treated water with 1

Extract from cell culture of medicinal plant like Nigella sativa have been assessed for its cytotoxic properties. Thymol is likely responsible for the theraputic effects of  Nigella sativa leaf callus extract. In this short study the inhibitory effect of Nigella sativa leaf callus extract (Thymol) has been studied on Human Lorgnx Epidrmoid Carcinoma (Hep-2) cell line during different exposure period of time (24, 48 and 72 hrs.) using different concentration of the extract (1000, 500, 400, 300, 200 and 100 µg/ml). The optical density of the Hep-2 cells has been readed on 492 nm wave length. Thymol –induced cytotoxicity was (500 µg/ml) which inhibit cell growing compared to the control and this
