A Laboratory Study Attempt of Flow and Energy Dissipation in Stepped Spillways
...Show More Authors

A new laboratory study conducted on stepped spillways in order to investigate their efficiency of dissipating flow energy. All previous study on stepped spillway indicated that the flow energy dissipation decreased as increasing in discharge. Increasing in the step numbers and the spillway slope led to energy dissipation decrease. In this study, an experimental attempt to increase energy dissipation at variable discharges was performed on stepped spillway and that leads to decreasing the cost of initiating the stilling basin or may be ignoring it. Five spillways were constructed from concrete and tested to investigate and compare among them. Three were roughed by gravel with different size for each one, one of them was stepped without any addition, and the last one was stepped with cavitation. The height of stepped spillways was 18 cm with unique numbers of steps (n = 3), and unique downstream slope of stepped face (θ =30⁰) were utilized. The percentage of relative energy dissipation (R.E.D) was increased using rough surface with coarse gravel. When the size of gravel increased, the R.E.D was increased and when using the ratio between heights of gravel to steps of 0.5, the R.E.D was increased to about triple compared with traditional spillways. The R.E.D was decreased when the cavitation on the stepped surface was utilized compared to the stepped spillway without any addition for large discharges and that was inverse for small discharges. Comparing to steps without any addition, the rouged steps with the larger size of gravel maximized the energy dissipation for both small and large discharges. The relative energy dissipation was 26.73 % compared with traditional spillway and 16.73 % compared with stepped spillway without any addition, since the stepped spillways more effective than traditional spillways by 10 %. In general, the R.E.D was decreased when increasing the discharge.

Change and Strategic Planning for Quality in Universities: An Analytical Study
...Show More Authors

This research aims to analyse the problem of organizations in general and universities in particular, in dealing with quality subjects in a world where these organizations face the risks of becoming side lined and possibly vanished without looking for solutions that allow them to move in an open arena where change becomes the key to those solutions. Change here must be strategic and planning must adopts a way for organizations to develop mechanisms to manage change itself. Management leaders play a central role in achieving the principle required to chart new trends for universities in dealing with quality as a strategy that allows excellence and competition in light of the success of the processes of change. Change through reengineer

Comparative Study for Organic and Inorganic Draw Solutions in Forward Osmosis
...Show More Authors

The present work aims to study forward osmosis process using different kinds of draw solutions and membranes. Three types of draw solutions (sodium chloride, sodium formate, and sodium acetate) were used in forward osmosis process to evaluate their effectiveness with respect to water flux and reverse salt flux. Experiments conducted in a laboratory-scale forward osmosis (FO) unit in cross flow flat sheet membrane cell.  Three types of membranes (Thin film composite (TFC), Cellulose acetate (CA), and Cellulose triacetate (CTA)) were used to determine the water flux under osmotic pressure as a driving force. The effect of temperature, draw solution concentration, feed and draw solution flow rate, and membrane types, were studied with

Comparison between MDDV and VADD routing protocols in VANET (Case Study)
...Show More Authors

Routing is the process of delivering a packet from a source to a destination in the network using a routing algorithm that tries to create an efficient path. The path should be created with minimum overhead and bandwidth consumption. In literature, routing protocols in VANET were categorized in many ways, according to different aspects. In the present study, we prefer the classification based on the number of hops to reach the destination node. In literature, these are single-hop and multi-hops protocols. We first discuss the two types and then compare the MDDV (multi-hops protocol) with VADD (single-hop protocol). The comparison is theoretically and experimentally implemented by providing a network environment consisting of SUMO, VIENS and

Perception, Benefits, and Factors Affecting the Quality of Hospital Training Course for Pharmacy Students: A Qualitative Study with Recently Graduated Pharmacy Students
...Show More Authors

BACKGROUND: Hospital training courses for pharmacy students were required to prepare students to meet the challenges of real-world hospital work. AIM: Because there have been few studies on the efficacy of such courses, we aimed to recognize recent graduates’ perceptions, benefits, and factors influencing the quality of hospital training courses for pharmacy students. METHODS: A qualitative study using a phenomenology approach was conducted in 2022 and included several hospitals in Baghdad, Iraq, using in-depth face-to-face individual-based semi-structured interviews. Until saturation, a convenient sample of recently graduated pharmacists was included. The obtained data were analyzed using a thematic content analysis approach

The present study discusses the names of the Day of Resurrection in Uri Rubin’s translations of the Holy Qur’an. To identify the translation difficulties and complications and to find out the Hebrew equivalence, the study, through the application of a comparative analytical approach, aims at analyzing the linguistic structures of Day of Resurrection names cited in the Holy Qur’an. Heavenly religions are rich with distinct and unique terms that distinguish and reflect their specificity of other religions; something requires a great accuracy in the translation of such terminology. By investigating selected examples of the names of the Day of Resurrection in Arabic and Hebrew, the present study sheds light on the morphological and semant
