Toll like receptor 2(TLR2) in acne vulgaris patients before and after oral isotretinion therapy
...Show More Authors

Background: Acne vulgaris is one of the top three most commonly encountered dermatological problems worldwide in both primary and secondary care. Human keratinocytes express functional TLR2 heterodimers. An increased expression of TLR2 was detected in the epidermis of inflammatory acne lesions, as observed in normal skin; the expression level increased with the degree of differentiation of the keratinocytes. TLR2 expression is upregulated in inflammatory acne lesions and induced by C. acnes. The current study conducted to assess the oral isotretinion treatment effect on the acne vulgaris patients by  evaluated the Toll Like Receptor 2 as a major  immune system marker in Acne vulgaris immune response.

Methods: 50 patients with acne vulgaris seen in  outpatient clinic of dermatology centre(Al-Baidhaa out clinic center) in Baghdad during the period 1/9/2017 to 1/8/2018. The  diagnosis of patients were done by the specialist dermatologist only sever and moderate acne cases were chosen. Fifty serum  samples were collected before oral isotretinion therapy, only forty-five serum samples were collected after 8 weeks of oral isotretinion therapy. All patients have received 0.5mg-1mg/kg/day of oral isotretinoin. The mean ages was 22 years(range, 16-36 years). A total of 50 patients, 36(72%) of patients were females and 14(28%) were males. Furthermore 43(86%) of cases have heredity history. Also control serum samples were collected from people without acne and they chose with the same mean ages. The serum samples were stored at -70°C for up to six months. ELISA test for quantitative determination of TLR2 human was done. Statistical analysis was done using T-test.

Results: Highly significant statistical difference were noticed (p<0.001) when we compare study group after therapy with control group, also highly significant statistical difference was noticed (p<0.01) when we compare study group before therapy with control group.

Conclusion: Significant decrease of TLR-2 level was noticed in study group after isotretinoin therapy in comparison with same group before therapy and also with the control group. Pronouncedly the effects of oral isotretinion suggest a path towards importance of this therapy as an anti-acne agent

Assessment of Serum Levels of the WNT Pathway Antagonist (Dickkopf-1) in a Sample of Type 2 Diabetic Patients with Retinopathy using Two Groups of Antidiabetics
...Show More Authors

Objectives: Dickkopf-1 (DKK-1) is WNT/b-catenin pathway antagonist which plays a detrimental role in the development of diabetic retinopathy (DR). This research aimed to assess serum DKK-1 levels in diabetic patients who have and have not developed DR and, compare them with the control subjects finding out whether we can use it as an indicator for DR early diagnosis and to find out which one of the widely used two groups of antidiabetic treatments had the greater effect on this biomarker and hence on the progression of DR. Methods: The study participants were divided into two subgroups: First, 70 patients (36 male, 34 female) with type 2 diabetes mellitus, among them 35 patients diagnosed with DR and 35 with no evidence of DR, and s

Differentiation of Adipose-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells into Neuron-Like Cells induced by using β-mercaptoethanol
...Show More Authors

Background: Adipose derived-mesenchymal stem cells have been used as an alternative to bone marrow cells in this study. Objective: We investigated the in vitro isolation, identification, and differentiation of stem cells into neuron cells, in order to produce neuron cells via cell culture, which would be useful in nerve injury treatment. Method: Mouse adipose mesenchymal stem cells were dissected from the abdominal subcutaneous region. Neural differentiation was induced using β-mercaptoethanol. This study included two different neural stage markers, i.e. nestin and neurofilament light-chain, to detect immature and mature neurons, respectively. Results: The immunocytochemistry results showed that the use of β-mercaptoethanol resulted in

Arrestin Beta-2 in Prostate Cancer and its Relationship with Trace Elements
...Show More Authors

Background: Prostate cancer (PCa) is the most prevalent non-cutaneous malignancy and the second-leading cause of cancer-relatedmortality among males. Cancer is just one of the several disorders that may be linked to variations in trace element concentrations. Objective: To evaluate serum arrestin β-2 as a prostate cancer tumor marker and its association with trace elements. Methods: This case- control study was carried out at the Department of Biochemistry, College of Medicine, University of Baghdad and at the Urology department, Ghazi Al-Hariri Hospital for Surgical Specialities during the period from March 2022 to May 2023. In this case-control study 120 males were enrolled: Sixty men with newly diagnosed primary prostate cancer (P

Oral health status, dental knowledge and behaviors among children and adolescents (8-15) years old in the cities of Baghdad and Thamar
...Show More Authors

Background: Investigating dental health knowledge among children is important. Knowing what behaviors are right in relation to dental health does not guarantee that children will practice those behaviors. However, lack of knowledge and misconceptions about dental health may lead to behaviors that are harmful to teeth and gum. Baseline data on knowledge levels are required to determine which particular areas of dental health education are in need of improvement for high-risk children living in different geographical areas. This research was conducted to study the oral health status, dental knowledge and behavior in relation to two different cities, among children in Baghdad and Thamar (republic of Yemen) governorate. The Spectrophotometric Determination of Samarium (III) With (l-2(2-Benzoinidazoly-AZO)-2-Hydroxy-3Naphthoic Acid
...Show More Authors

Samarium(III) ions react with (l-2(2-benzoinidazolyl-azo)-2-hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid in basic medium (pH = 8.0) forms a red-orange complex at A.max (550nm). The complex was found to be stable for at least 48 hrs. at the given pH. The apparent molar absorptivity is 7776.77 L.mol-1.Cm-1 and a linear calibration curve is obtained in the range (0.639x 10-5M - 6.350x 10 -5M). The stoichiometry of complex was confirmed by using mole ratio method which indicated that ratio of reagent to metal is 3:1. The effects of the presence of different cations and anions as interferences in the determination of samarium(III) under the given conditions were investigated

...Show More Authors

New azo ligand 2-((4-formyl-3-hydroxynaphthalen-2-yl) diazenyl) benzoic acid (H2L) was synthesized from the reaction of 2-aminobenzoic acid and2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde. Monomeric complexes of this ligand, of general formulae [MII(L)(H2O)] with (MII = Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Pd, Cd and Hg ) were reported. The compounds were isolated and characterized in solid state by using 1H-NMR, FT-IR, UV–Vis and mass spectral studies, elemental microanalysis, metal content, magnetic moment measurements, molar conductance and chloride containing. These studies revealed tetrahedral geometries for all complexes except PdII complex is Square planar. The study of complexes formation via molar ratio of (M:L) as (1:1). Theoretical treatments of compounds in gas
