Fetal macrosomia Maternal and Perinatal outcome
...Show More Authors

Background: Fetal macrosomia represent a
continuing challenge in obstetrics and increasing in
it's occurrence as well as it is associated with maternal
and perinatal complications.
Objective : To determine the maternal and perinatal
outcome related to fetal macrosomia.
Design: A prospective case control study.
Patients and methods) :10th March-31st May, 2006
A prospective case control study had done over the
period from 10th March to 31st May, 2006 in Al-Batool
maternity teaching hospital in Mosul city .The study
group consisted from 633 singleton alive newborns
with gestational age ≥37weeks weighing 4000 grams
and heavier and mothers of these newborns compared
with control group which consisted from 4155
singleton alive newborn with gestational age
≥37weeks weighing 2500-3999 grams and mothers of
these newborns .The obstetrical outcome variables
which compared between the two groups include mode
of delivery, indication of caesarean section and
maternal and perinatal complications.
Results :
Macrosomic newborns (≥4000grams) delivered in this
study account for (12.45%) of total deliveries.
Newborns with a birth weight of ≥4500grams
constitute 2.65% from all deliveries .Male Newborns
(65.24%) was higher and statistically differed among
the study group (p value=0.001).
Instrumental vaginal delivery (P value=0.010,Odd
ratio :2.12, 95 %CI :1.19-3.76) and cesarean section
delivery (P value=0.000,Odd ratio:1.63, 95 %CI :
1.34-1.98), mainly the emergency cesarean section
(18.79%), were significantly different among the
study group .Failure of progress of labour and
cephalopelvic disproportion were the main indications
in study group and showed statistical significant
difference between the two groups.
Among the study group, there was neither maternal
death nor uterine rupture but there was higher
occurrence of postpartum hemorrhage, genital tract
trauma and shoulder dystocia which were significantly
different when it compared with control group .Erb's
palsy was the main perinatal complication and was
statistically different among macrosomic group (P
value=0.000) .
Conclusion: Fetal macrosomia was associated with
higher rate of instrumental vaginal delivery and
caesarean section mainly due to failure of progress of
labour and cephalopelvic disproportion .There were
higher rate of postpartum haemorrhage, genital tract
trauma as well as shoulder dystocia with neither
maternal death nor uterine rupture in study group .
Among macrosomic newborn, Erb's pulsy was the
main perinatal complication

Gelatin Nanoparticles as a Carrier for Acriflavine and Triethylenetetramine: Cytotoxicity and Antibacterial Activity
...Show More Authors
ABSTRACT
Despite extensive investigation as biocompatible drug carriers, gelatin nanoparticles (GNPs) have not been thoroughly assessed for carrying chemically distinct cationic molecules such as acriflavine (ACF) and triethylenetetramine (TETA). In this study, we hypothesize that GNPs can effectively encapsulate ACF and TETA, forming stable delivery systems with distinct antibacterial and cytotoxic activities. ACF encapsulated in gelatin was prepared adapting desolvation technique. The procedure involved stirring of an aqueous solution of gelatin and ACF at room temperature, the pH was titrated to eight using NaOH followed by addition of ethanol. The resulting nanopart
... Fabrication and Investigation of Structural, Optical and Dielectric Properties of ZnO:MnO 2 Composites
...Show More Authors

In this work, (ZnO)1-x(MnO2)x compounds were synthesized with composition (x=0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, and 0.5) of manganese oxide content using solid state reaction. Thin films were prepared from these compounds on glass substrates at room temperature using pulsed laser deposition method. The structure of the prepared compounds and thin films were analyzed using x-ray diffraction while the optical properties was measured using UV-visible spectrophotometry. It was found that the synthesized composites declared many peaks in the diffraction pattern which indicate polycrystalline structure with hexagonal wurtzite hexagonal structure of ZnO, and MnO2 and Mn2O3 secondary phases. A narrowing in the optical e

Synthesis and characterization of some substituted heterocyclic compounds and evaluation of biological activity
...Show More Authors

This work includes preparing of some new derivatives of 1,2,4-Triazoles and oxazoles from the reaction between 3,5-dimethyl phenol and chloroethyl acetate in the presence of potassium carbonate and dry acetone to obtain the ester ethyl 3,5- dimethyl phenoxy acetate , then converted this ester to Thiosemicarbazone and Semicarbazone. Then ,the Triazoles were prepared from the cyclization of these Thiosemcarbazones and Semicarbazones in alkaline media( potassium hydroxide solution) . The prepared compounds were characterized by spectral methods FT-IR ,1H-NMR and measurement of some of its physical properties and evaluation of the biological activity for some of them.

This study was conducted at the College of Education for Pure Sciences (Ibn Al-Haitham), University of Baghdad. The aim of this study was to isolate and diagnose fungi from fish feedstuff samples, and also detection of aflatoxin B1 and ochratoxin A in fish muscles and feedstuffs. Randomly, the samples were collected from some fish farms from Baghdad, Babil, Wasit, Anbar, and Salah al-Din provinces. This study included the collection of 35 feedstuff samples and 70 fish muscle samples, and each of the two fish samples fed on one sample of the feedstuff. The results showed the presence of several genera of different fungi including Aspergillus spp, Mucor spp., Penicillium spp., Yeast spp., Fusarium spp., Rhizopus spp., Scopiolariopsis spp., Ep

Oral health status, dental knowledge and behaviors among children and adolescents (8-15) years old in the cities of Baghdad and Thamar
...Show More Authors

Background: Investigating dental health knowledge among children is important. Knowing what behaviors are right in relation to dental health does not guarantee that children will practice those behaviors. However, lack of knowledge and misconceptions about dental health may lead to behaviors that are harmful to teeth and gum. Baseline data on knowledge levels are required to determine which particular areas of dental health education are in need of improvement for high-risk children living in different geographical areas. This research was conducted to study the oral health status, dental knowledge and behavior in relation to two different cities, among children in Baghdad and Thamar (republic of Yemen) governorate. The study aimed at identifying youth and sport forums from planning and leadership point of view and their relation with organizational culture. The researchers used the descriptive method on (140) worker in Baghdad youth and sport forums. A scale was designed for measuring planning and leadership in youth and sport forums as well as designing a scale for measuring organizational culture. After the application of the main experiment, the results showed that both youth and sport forum administration scale and organizational culture scale are appropriate to the study community. Finally the researchers recommended using these scales by workers in youth and sport forums and involving administration mangers in periodical training courses

A field experiment was conducted in Al-Yusufiya district - Al-Mahmoudiya district, Baghdad province during the winter season 2021, to study improving the efficiency and management of water use and the productivity of lettuce under different irrigation systems. The Nested-Factorial Experiments design was used, where the main plots include the first factor, irrigation levels (I1) 50%, (I2) 75%, (I3) 100, (I4) 125%, (I5) 150% ETpan. After depleting 35% of the available water and in terms of climatic data from the American Evaporative Basin, Class A. Then the main factor is divided into three replicates, and the coefficients of the second factor are distributed randomly within each replicate, which includes the irrigation system: surface drip i
