Background: Fetal macrosomia represent a
continuing challenge in obstetrics and increasing in
it's occurrence as well as it is associated with maternal
and perinatal complications.
Objective : To determine the maternal and perinatal
outcome related to fetal macrosomia.
Design: A prospective case control study.
Patients and methods) :10th March-31st May, 2006
A prospective case control study had done over the
period from 10th March to 31st May, 2006 in Al-Batool
maternity teaching hospital in Mosul city .The study
group consisted from 633 singleton alive newborns
with gestational age ≥37weeks weighing 4000 grams
and heavier and mothers of these newborns compared
with control group which consisted from 4155
singleton alive newborn with gestational age
≥37weeks weighing 2500-3999 grams and mothers of
these newborns .The obstetrical outcome variables
which compared between the two groups include mode
of delivery, indication of caesarean section and
maternal and perinatal complications.
Results :
Macrosomic newborns (≥4000grams) delivered in this
study account for (12.45%) of total deliveries.
Newborns with a birth weight of ≥4500grams
constitute 2.65% from all deliveries .Male Newborns
(65.24%) was higher and statistically differed among
the study group (p value=0.001).
Instrumental vaginal delivery (P value=0.010,Odd
ratio :2.12, 95 %CI :1.19-3.76) and cesarean section
delivery (P value=0.000,Odd ratio:1.63, 95 %CI :
1.34-1.98), mainly the emergency cesarean section
(18.79%), were significantly different among the
study group .Failure of progress of labour and
cephalopelvic disproportion were the main indications
in study group and showed statistical significant
difference between the two groups.
Among the study group, there was neither maternal
death nor uterine rupture but there was higher
occurrence of postpartum hemorrhage, genital tract
trauma and shoulder dystocia which were significantly
different when it compared with control group .Erb's
palsy was the main perinatal complication and was
statistically different among macrosomic group (P
value=0.000) .
Conclusion: Fetal macrosomia was associated with
higher rate of instrumental vaginal delivery and
caesarean section mainly due to failure of progress of
labour and cephalopelvic disproportion .There were
higher rate of postpartum haemorrhage, genital tract
trauma as well as shoulder dystocia with neither
maternal death nor uterine rupture in study group .
Among macrosomic newborn, Erb's pulsy was the
main perinatal complication
Abstract: Background: Optical biosensors offer excellent properties and methods for detecting bacteria when compared to traditional analytical techniques. It allows direct detection of many biological and chemical materials. Bacteria are found in the human body naturally non-pathogenic and pathologically, as they are found in other living organisms. One of these bacteria is Escherichia coli (E. coli) which are found in the human body in its natural and pathogenic form. E.coli bacteria cause many diseases, including Stomach, intestines, urinary system infections, and others. The aim of this study: is sensing and differentiation between normal flora and pathogenic E.coli. Material and method:

Vitamin D, which is a neuro-hormone with pleiotropic biological activities may modulate the immune response by alleviation, and stimulation of Th1 and Th2 cell proliferation, respectively, that influence the stimulation, synthesis, and secretion of both pro and anti-inflammatory cytokines. In this study we aimed to shed light on the levels of vitamin D in children with different episodes of tonsillitis in association with levels of interleukins (TNFα, IL-2, IL-4, IL-10). Blood samples were collected from 48 participants in 3 groups: control, acute tonsilliti

Objective: This study aims to assess the knowledge and practice of community pharmacists in Iraq regarding the use of Liraglutide and Semaglutide as weight-loss medications. Method: A cross-sectional survey was implemented using a validated questionnaire and a convenient sample of Iraqi community pharmacists from different governorates. The questionnaire was created after conducting a literature review of the most important articles about liraglutide and semaglutide. The questionnaire consists of three sections. The first part was used to collect demographic information. The

Batch experiments were carried out to remove hexavalent chromium from aqueous solutions. Different parameters were optimized such as amount of adsorbent, treatment time, pH and concentration of adsorbate. The concentrations of Cr6+ in solutions are determined by UV-Visible spectrophotometer. Maximum percentage removal of Cr6+ was 82% at pH 2. Two equilibrium adsorption isotherms mechanisms are tested Langmuir and Freundlich, the results showed that the isotherm obeyed to Freundlich isotherm. Kinetic models were applied to the adsorption of Cr6+ ions on the adsorbents, ps

The use of different types of data such as fault systems, drainage patterns (previously mapped), lineament, and lithological contacts with spatial resolution of 30m was combined through a process of integration and index overlay modeling technique for producing the susceptibility map of fault segments in the study area. GIS spatial overlay technique was used to determine the spatial relationships of all the criteria (factors) and subcriteria (classes) within layers (maps) to classify and map the potential ar

Inulinase is an enzyme used in food manufacture and pharmaceuticals. Inulinase is used in decreasing lipid ratio and, cholesterol in blood and considered as a prebiotic factor inside intestine. Many microorganisms can produce inulinase, such as yeast, fungi and bacteria; among such bacteria: Bacillus spp., Arthrobacter spp., and Pseudomonas spp. but there are no studies about inulinase production by K. pneumoniae have been reported. So the current study aims at investing the ability of producing and purification inulinase by K. pneumoniae. Method: K. pneumoniae were isolated from many hospitals and

In addition to commercially available cylindrical hollow electrodes, an elliptical electrode geometry has been designed, manufactured, and implemented. The principal aim was to improve the removal of debris formed during the erosion process that adversely affects the aspect ratio, dimensional accuracy, and surface integrity. The results were compared and discussed to evaluate the effectiveness of electrode geometry on the machining performance of EDD process with respect to the material removal rate (MRR,) the electrode wear rate (EWR), and the tool wear ratio (TWR). These complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, melting point, conductivity, percentage metal, UV–Vis, FT-IR, and magnetic moment measurements. The molar conductance indicates that all the metal complexes in DMSO are nonelectrolytic. phthalic acid (phtha), and 1,10-Phenanthroline (phen), behaved as bidentate, coordinating to the metal ion through their two oxygen and two pyridinyl nitrogen atoms respectively, as corroborated by.
