...Show More Authors

Background: Thalassemia is characterized by the decrease or absence of the synthesis of one or more globin chains of hemoglobin. Thalassemia is distributed worldwide and is characterized by; regular blood transfusion which is creating alloimmunization to erythrocyte antigens is one of the major complications of regular blood transfusions in thalassemia, particularly in patients who are chronically transfused. Objectives: The aims of this study are to understand the immune system profile as the triggering factor for thalassemia. Methods: Thirty patients aging between one year and four months and twenty two years, twenty two of them were boys and eight were girls. Twenty nine patients, their parents are relative except one and studied in the maternity and Children teaching Hospital of Al Samawa city. Belonging to Blood groups O+, B+, A+, O- and B- , showed,12,8,7,2 and 1 patients respectively compared to control group 30 persons with no relation to blood groups. High percentages of relative marriages as seen in my study (96.66%), from all Al muthana population how were visiting the hospital during 2010, in thalassemic center. Results: twenty six patients out of thirty patients studied suffer from cardiomegaly (86.66%) due to iron over load because of frequent blood transfusion and immune system disorder. Results also showed eight patients suffer also from Bronchopneumia (26.66%) and all patients had hepatomegaly, splenomegaly and hemoglobin were low in all patients compared to hemoglobin control average which was 10.72-14.76 g/dl. Facial and teeth deformities were recognized in twenty six patients (86.66%).Conclusions: hepatomegaly and splenomegaly, followed by cardiomegaly, facial and teeth deformities were the most persistently recognized features in thalassemic patients. Bronchopneumia is less frequent but not uncommon.

Evaluation of Human β-defensin-3 Diagnostic Role in a Group of Iraqi Patients with Osteoporosis
...Show More Authors

Background: Osteoporosis (OP) is a prevalent age-related condition that increases the risk of fracture and bone fragility, as result loss of bone mass as well as micro-architectural degradation of the bone, thereby reducing the mass and strength of bone. Human β-defensin (HBD-3) is ananti-inflammatory peptide andcrucial part of the human innate immune system. Giving early therapeutic intervention for OP requires an early diagnosis. Objectives: To evaluate the serum HBD-3 accuracy of diagnosis in patients with osteoporosis. Methods: The study was conducted in the National Joint Center at Yarmouk Teaching Hospital in Baghdad during September - October 2023. Eighty participants were recruited, all of whom had clinical examinations an

Numerical Simulation of Pile Group Response in Slope Layered Soil under the Effect of Seismic Loading
...Show More Authors

This work investigates the effect of earthquakes on the stability of a collective pile subjected to seismic loads in the soil layer. Plaxis 3D 2020 finite element software modeled pile behavior in dry soils with sloping layers. The results showed a remarkable fluctuation between the earthquakes, where the three earthquakes (Halabja, El Centro, and Kobe) and the acceleration peak in the Kobe earthquake had a time of about 11 seconds. Different settlement results were shown, as different values were recorded for the three types of earthquakes. Settlement ratios were increased by increasing the seismic intensity; hence the maximum settlement was observed with the model under the effect of the Kobe earthquake (0.58 g), where

Detection of RAF fusion transcripts in FFPE samples of Medullablastoma and Ependymom in Iraqi children with RT-RQPCR assays
...Show More Authors

Medulloblastomas and ependymomas are the most common malignant brain tumors in children. However genetic abnormalities associated with their development and prognosis remain unclear. Recently two gene fusions, KIAA1549–BRAF and SRGAP3–RAF1 have been detected in a number of brain tumours. We report here our development and validation of RT-RQPCR assays to detect various isoforms of these two fusion genes in formalin fixed paraffin embedded (FFPE) tissues of medulloblastoma and ependymoma. We examined these fusion genes in 44 paediatric brain tumours, 33 medulloblastomas and 11 ependymomas. We detected both fusion transcripts in 8/33, 5/33 SRGAP3 ex10/RAF1 ex10, and 3/33 KIAA1549 ex16/BRAF ex9, meduloblastomas but none in the 11 ep

The sculpture composing of iron materials is being considered most important raw material that has been used by the modern artist ,especially period of post –modernism. The works of the two artists ( SALIH AL-QARAGHULI and AHMED AL-BAHRANI) the most important works that entailed to be studied for being using iron material in most of their sculpturing works; in works of Al-Quraghuli, we find ores composing of iron wires , animals threads and remaining of trash and to be assembled in a sculptured text with unique style in Arab Home. Moreover, we find huge works of (al-Bahrani) represented into formations characterized with its ironic flexibility, its abstracted engineering forms. Al-Bahrani solely has used iron plates represented in its

Natural radioactivity survey in Al-Jabal Al-Gharbi Mountain Region Libya
...Show More Authors

The measurement of natural radioactivity in a given region or country is essential to provide a reference base-line map to follow up a possible variation in future. In order to perform such measurement, the natural radioactivity was measured in different locations. The locations (50 sites) were distributed over Al-Jabal Al-Gharbi Mountain, starting from the city Al-Azeeziah in the eastern part to Wazen on the Tunisian border in the west. The measurements showed obvious variation from one site to another. The levels were fluctuating from (12.8 counts/minute) in Bir-Ayad to (45.7 counts/minute) in Gherian.
In order to investigate the cause for such variation, samples were collected from (27) sites for detailed study. The levels of natur
