The Battles of Al-Taf & Maldon Between History & Literature
...Show More Authors

It was Aristotle who first drew attention to the superior quality of literature to the other factual fields of knowledge. Contradicting his predecessor Plato on the issue of „truth,‟ Aristotle believed that „poetry is more philosophical and deserves more serious attention than history: for while poetry concerns itself with universal truths, history considers only particular facts.‟ (1) The critical attention to the disparity between the literary truth and the historical truth grew up throughout ages to flourish in the Renaissance and after with a bunch of distinctive views on this subject. Sir Philip Sidney (1554-1586), for example, found that literature does not offer a literal description of reality but rather a heightened version of it. Reality of nature, to him, is „brazen‟ where as poets deliver only a „golden‟ one. For this reason, poetry, unlike history which is too tied to „particular facts,‟ is ideal in its golden fables „to win the mind from wickedness to virtue.‟(2) It is, in other words, a matter of ethical value represented by the literary potency of the moral lesson.
The development in understanding the poetic truth has

Effectiveness of Cellulose Nanofibers Addition to Soft Denture Lining Material on Candida albicans Adherence and Physical and Mechanical Properties
...Show More Authors

Purpose: Current denture liner materials suffer from low tear strength, poor abrasion resistance, weak bond strength to denture material, and increasing risk of denture stomatitis due to adherence. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of the addition of cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) to commercial soft denture liner material on the adherence of and physical and mechanical properties. Materials and Methods: CNFs at concentrations of 0.0, 0.5, and 1.0 wt.% were incorporated into a soft liner material. Antifungal effects were assessed by quantifying the adherence of . The Shore A hardness, tensile strength, peel bond strength, and surface roughness tests were employed to assess the properties of the denture liner materials. Chemica

EEG-ChTABNet: A Dual-Branch Channel-Wise Transformer with Gated Attention-Branch Network for EEG-Based Classification of Dementia
...Show More Authors

Background/Objectives: Early and accurate discrimination of neurological conditions, dementia, stroke and healthy aging, remains a critical clinical challenge. Electroencephalography (EEG) is a non-invasive measure of brain dynamics and entropy-based features obtained from multichannel EEG have shown strong discriminative ability. However, existing deep learning approaches do not sufficiently address the combined challenges of small clinical cohorts and high-dimensional entropy feature spaces. In this study, a novel architecture is proposed for multi-class neurological EEG classification under extreme small-sample conditions. Methods: A novel dual-branch Channel-wise Transformer and Attention-Branch Network (EEG-ChTABNet) are pr to

Shear bond strength of endodontic sealers to dentin with and without smear layer and gutta percha (An in vitro study)
...Show More Authors

Background: The bond strength of root canal sealers to dentin and gutta-percha seems to be an important property for maintaining the stability of root canal filling, which potentially influences both leakage and root strength. The objective of this, in vitro, study was to evaluate the shear bond strength of three different endodontic sealers (Gutta-Flow, AH Plus, Apexit Plus) to dentin, in the presence and absence of the smear layer and gutta percha. Material and Methods: After slicing off the occlusal 2mm of 60 extracted human maxillary premolar teeth, the exposed dentin served as the tested surfaces; the teeth were fixed with cold cure acrylic, and were divided into two groups according to the smear layer presence, group A without smear

Spectroscopic and Biological activity studies of azo ligand type (N,O)and its complexes with CrIII, MnII and FeII ions
...Show More Authors

Azo derivative ligand[H3L] have been synthesized by the reaction of diazonium salt of p-amino benzoic acid with orcinol in(1:1)mole ratio. The bidente ligand was reacted with the metal ions MnII,FeIIandCrIIIin(2:1)mole ratio via reflux in ethanol using Et3N as a base to give complexes of the general formula: [ M(H2L)2(H2O)x]Cly The synthesized compounds were characterized by spectroscopic methods[ I.R , UV-Vis, A.A and H1 NMR]along with melting point, chloride content and conductivity measurements. The complexes were screend for their in vitro antibacterial activity against one strain of staphylococcus as Gram(+) positive and one strain of pseudomonas as Gram(-) Negative, using the agar diffusion technique.

Gingival microleakage of composite restorations with different bonding protocol in class II cavity treated with chlorhexidine (an in-vitro study)
...Show More Authors

ABSTRACT Background: One of the challenges to use chlorhexidine is its effect on the amount of microleakage after restoration; however, use of the materials with antibacterial properties after tooth preparation and before restoration has been widespread. The objective of this, in-vitro, study was to evaluate the influence of consepsis (chlorhexidine gloconate disinfectant) application on microleakage in class II cavities restored with light cured composite using universal adhesive system; etch and rinse technique –self etch technique. Materials and Methods: Forty class II cavities were prepared on mesial and distal surfaces of 20 non-carious mandibular third molars. The cavities were divided into four groups; (n =10 for each group).
