Difficulties in learning and teaching Arabic to non-native speakers in the Kurdistan Region Types and solutions
...Show More Authors

This research is a study of the difficulties of learning the Arabic language that faces Arabic language learners in the Kurdistan Region, by revealing its types and forms, which can be classified into two categories:

The first type has difficulties related to the educational system, the source of which is the Arabic language itself, the Arabic teacher or the learner studying the Arabic language or the educational curriculum, i.e. educational materials, or the educational process, i.e. the method used in teaching.

The second type: general difficulties related to the political aspect, the source of which is the policy of the Kurdistan Regional Government in marginalizing the Arabic language and replacing the forefront of the English language, or difficulties originating from the quality of society’s culture, or difficulties caused by speakers of it on Awaj, or difficulties that are caused by the influence of the media on the marginalization of interest in the Arabic language.

The research showed a set of proposed solutions to overcome these difficulties, facilitate them, remove or reduce them, and contribute to facilitating the teaching of the Arabic language to non-native speakers of the Kurds, and these solutions are classified into two categories:

Class 1: solutions for the educational system that include the teacher, the learner, the educational curriculum, and the method of teaching

Class Two: General solutions related to government, media, mosques and society

Urging us to take an interest in the Arabic language, we explained at the outset the importance of the Arabic language, that it is the language of the Holy Qur’an and the noble prophetic hadith, and that it is an official international language, and that it is the language of the majority of Islamic heritage, the language of poetry and rhetoric in the ages of eloquence, and it is the only language that still retains its linguistic and grammatical history since He created the earth and man, and we also showed the motives for learning it: it is an introduction to understanding the Qur’an and the Sunnah of the Prophet, an introduction to understanding Islamic heritage books, and a means of uniting Muslims, in addition to economic goals.

Inducing Frictional Force to Enhance the Transient Response in Beams
...Show More Authors

This paper studies the effect of contact areas on the transient response of mechanical structures. Precisely, it investigates replacing the ordinary beam of a structure by two beams of half the thickness, which are joined by bolts. The response of these beams is controlled by adjusting the tightening of the connecting bolts and hence changing the magnitude of the induced frictional force between the two beams which affect the beams damping capacity. A cantilever of two beams joined together by bolts has been investigated numerically and experimentally. The numerical analysis was performed using ANSYS-Workbench version 17.2. A good agreement between the numerical and experimental results has been obtained. In general, results s

Verification and Parametric Analysis of Shear Behavior of Reinforced Concrete Beams using Non-linear Finite Element Analysis
...Show More Authors

Many researchers have tackled the shear behavior of Reinforced Concrete (RC) beams by using different kinds of strengthening in the shear regions and steel fibers. In the current paper, the effect of multiple parameters, such as using one percentage of Steel Fibers (SF) with and without stirrups, without stirrups and steel fibers, on the shear behavior of RC beams, has been studied and compared by using Finite Element analysis (FE). Three-dimensional (3D) models of (RC) beams are developed and analyzed using ABAQUS commercial software. The models were validated by comparing their results with the experimental test. The total number of beams that were modeled for validation purposes was four. Extensive pa

Reinforcement Learning-Based Television White Space Database
...Show More Authors

Television white spaces (TVWSs) refer to the unused part of the spectrum under the very high frequency (VHF) and ultra-high frequency (UHF) bands. TVWS are frequencies under licenced primary users (PUs) that are not being used and are available for secondary users (SUs). There are several ways of implementing TVWS in communications, one of which is the use of TVWS database (TVWSDB). The primary purpose of TVWSDB is to protect PUs from interference with SUs. There are several geolocation databases available for this purpose. However, it is unclear if those databases have the prediction feature that gives TVWSDB the capability of decreasing the number of inquiries from SUs. With this in mind, the authors present a reinforcement learning-ba

The Poetics of Mourning and the American Elegy in Walt Whitman's "When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom'd"
...Show More Authors

Walt Whitman adds a poetic twist to the relationship of man’s body, soul with the universe. His inspiration in writing his elegy, "When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom'd," draws on aesthetico-political resources. Major amongst these is his leaning towards the American Transcendentalist idea of the "Over-Soul".  The basic topoi in his poems is thus his identification of nature with the soul of man. The idea of the Over-Soul sheds light on the three stages of human loss: suffering, despair, and compensation. Whitman witnessed two political events, the outbreak of the civil war and Abraham Lincoln's death, which were of a particular importance to his life and work: they helped him shape a form and thematic concerns of his own.
