Background: Impression materials, impression trays, and poured stone cast have been said to be the main source of cross infection between patients and dentists. However, it was observed that disinfection of the impression is not performed systematically in routine dental practice. Disinfection of alginates either by immersion or spray technique was found to cause dimensional inaccuracies, although with proper disinfection of alginates there were small dimensional changes. A variety of fluoride releasing products designed for topical use is currently available. Following their use, varied amount of fluoride is systemically absorbed depending on the fluoride concentration and the manner of its use. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of addition (0%, 0.25%,0.5%,1%, 2%, 3%, 4% ) of (NaF) as a self-disinfection to alginate impression material powder and its effect on setting time, tear strength, dimensional change and accuracy of alginate impression materials. Materials and methods: A total No. of (700) specimen were used in this study. These specimens were divided into (5) main groups according to the tests used. Each of the four main groups contain (70) specimen divided into 7 subgroups (ten specimens to be tested for each (7)concentrations which is composed of six percentages of NaFwith alginate powder (0.25%,0.5%,1%, 2%, 3%, 4% )and one for control (0% NaF) , while the fifth group (Microbiological test) contain 420 specimen were divided between Streptococcus mutans and Candida albicans as (120) specimen for each one that was subdivided into three subgroups (specimens taken before impression casting, specimensafter pouring of alginate with stone andspecimens of stone were taken from the casts) in which it contain the same subgroups of the other concentrationsof (NaF) to test its efficacy against (Streptococcus mutans and Candida albicans). Results: Tear strength for all experimental impression materials was greater than those of the control products. There were no statistically significant differences between the dimensional change tests and also reproduction of detail test. With regard to setting time of the impressions, statisticallyreduction were seen between the control and experimental groups of alginate impression materials that contain (NaF). Self-disinfection of alginate impression material containing NaF showed a significant reduction in the count of cell forming unit of microorganisms immediately after impressions were made. Conclusion: In cooperation of specific concentrations of (NaF) as a disinfectant in alginate dental impression produced a significant reduction of contamination, also they caused non-significant effect on dimensional stability, detail reproduction and significant increase in tear strength. Therefore it is recommended as step in preventing cross contamination. Keywords: Alginate, NaF, Candida Albicans, streptococcus mutans.
This study is concerned with the effect of adding two kinds of ceramic materials on the mechanical properties of (Al-7%Si- 0.3%Mg) alloy, which are zirconia with particle size (20μm > P.S ≥ 0.1μm) and alumina with particle size (20μm > P.S ≥ 0.1μm) and adding them to the alloy with weight ratios (0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8 and 1%). Stirring casting method has been used to make composite material by using vortex technique which is used to pull the particles to inside the melted metals and distributed them homogenously.
After that solution treatment was done to the samples at (520ºC) and artificial ageing at (170ºC) in different times, it has been noticed that the values of hardness is increased with the aging time of the o

The purpose of present study was to compare wettability, tear strength and dimensional accuracy of three elastomeric impression materials, with the same consistencies (light-body). Three commercially available light body consistency and regular set 3M ESPE Express polyvinylsiloxane (PVS), 3M ESPE Permadyne polyether (PE), and Identium (ID), impression materials were comparedTear strength test, contact angle test and linear dimensional accuracy were evaluated for three elastic impression material. Among the three experimental groups PE impression materia

Discs with a diameter of 12 mm and a thickness of 2 mm were prepared using a heat-cured PMMA denture base material and divided into control and experimental groups. The experimental group was modified with 15% phosphoric acid 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate ester (PA2HEME). The modified and nonmodified materials were tested via FTIR, and the effect of modification on surface roughness was evaluated with AFM. An in vitro test was conducted to examine the cytotoxicity and biocompatibility of heat-cured acry

The most common reasonfor re-making the prosthesis is silicone mechanical properties degradation. The aim of this studywas to assess some mechanical properties of VST-30 silicone for maxillofacial prostheses after addi-tion of intrinsic pigments. Methods: Two types of intrinsic pigments (rayon flocking and burnt sienna); each of them wasincorporated into silicone. One hundred and twenty samples were prepared and split into 4 groupsaccording to the conducted tests (tear strength, hardness, surface roughness, and tensile strengthand elongation percentage) with 30 samples for ea

Mechanical properties such as flexural strength and impact test of polymer reinforcement copper (powder and chip) were done, the maximum flexural strength for the polymer reinforcement with copper (powder and chip) are (85.13 Mpa) and (50.08 Mpa) respectively was obtained, while the maximum observation energy of the impact test for the polymer reinforcement with copper (powder and chip) are (0.85 J) and (0.4 J) respectively
The use of the plastic waste material to stabilize soil is step in the right direction making the construction industry a suitable candidate with its high consumption capacity. The method would be a reliable alternative to traditional ground improvement technique. It would be cost effective, sustainable and environmentally friendly. In this review paper, the behaviour of reinforced soil with plastic waste would be discussed including its suitability for pavement and road construction. The previous literature highlighted by authors will be reviewed in focus on type of treated soil, nature, shape, geometry, and amount of the added plastic waste. The aim of this review is to investigate the effect of granules and fibre plastic waste materials
