Background: Diabetes mellitus type 2 has been known for many years as the most common endocrine metabolic disorder that affect the oral cavity and cause many oral diseases including candidiasis. In this study, the incidence of Candida spp. in the saliva of controlled and uncontrolled diabetic patients were determined and compared with non diabetic group. Material and method: The sample consists of 200 subjects: 100 diabetic patients [57 (28.5%) uncontrolled diabetes, 43 (21.5%) controlled diabetes] and 100 (50%) non diabetic groups. Saliva samples was obtained from the subjects and cultured on selective media using appropriate microbiological method to observe the presence of Candida spp. Results: The results revealed a significant association (p < 0.001) between diabetic patients and the presence of Candida spp. using statistical analysis. The odds ratio of the presence of Candida spp. in the controlled and uncontrolled diabetic patients were 0.539 (95% CI= 0.193, 1.508).The odds ratio of the presence of Candida spp. in the uncontrolled and controlled diabetic patients were 17.433 (95% CI= 7.298, 41.642) and 9.40 (95% CI = 4.068, 21.686), respectively, compared to non diabetic group. A significant association was found between the Presence of Candida spp. and the following variables: Groups (p < 0.000), Gender (p < 0.000), Smoking (p < 0.000), Antibiotics (p < 0.000), oral mouthwash (p < 0.000) Edentulous (p < 0.000) and Denture wearing (p < 0.000). Conclusion: Candida spp. population significantly increased in the oral flora of diabetic patients compared with non diabetic group.
Abstract The percent study aimed to determination the association between infant feeding practices and Insulin-Dependent Diabetes Mellitus (IDDM). The study was conducted at (he National Center of Diabetes in Baghdad City the Capital of Iraq throughout the period of January 2001 to January 2002. The sample was comprised of (200) mother of Insulin-Dependent Diabetes Mellitus (IDDM) of children under age of 12 years old. Data was collected through the use of a questionnaire that constructed by researcher and which were developed for the purpose of the present study. Reliability of the instruments was dete
Background: Chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) is the result of aninitial episode of acute otitis media and is characterized by a persistent discharge from the middle ear through a tympanic perforation for at least 2 weeks duration. It is an important cause of preventable hearing loss, particularly in the developing world.Methods. 1. To get an overview on the bacterial ear infection profile in general 2. To assess the antibiotic resistance of Pseudomonal infection (PS) particularly since it is usually the commonest infection to cause otitis media and the most difficult to treat due to the problem of multi drug resistance... The general formula for Cu II and Mn II complexes are [M (HL) 2 Cl.H2O] K, for Co II [Co (HL) 2. H2O] and [M (HL) 2] for the rest of complexes. All compounds were characterised by spectroscopic methods, I.R, U.V-Vis, H.P.L.C, atomic absorption and conductivity measurements chloride content. From the data of these measurements, the proposed molecular structures for Fe II and Hg II complexes are tetrahedrals, while Mn II and Cu II complexes are octahedrals, Ni II complex adopting square planar structure and the complex

Background: In the past, an association between Tuberculosis (TB) and Diabetes Mellitus (DM) was widely accepted, today the potential public health and clinical importance of this relationship seems to be largely ignored. The national clinical and policy guidance in the UK on the central of TB, for example, does not consider the relationship with DM.Objectives: To determine the risk of association between diabetes mellitus and pulmonary TB.Methods: A retrospective study conducted in Ibn Zuhr hospital for chest diseases from Jan 2008 – sep 2010 , included in the study 402 patients with TB divided into diabetic & non diabetic, 96 (23.8%) were diabetic while other 306 were TB not diabetic. Results: Risk of TB among DM patients were cle
