Objectives: The objectives of the present study are to identify both, the rate of urinary tract infections (UTI) in medical
and surgical wards in Baghdad Teaching Hospital and the common types of microorganisms that cause this type of NIs,
study the resistance of isolated microorganisms to several types of antibiotic and the effect of some disinfection
material like Iodine, chlorhexidine and septicin on the growth of these isolates.
Methodology: This is descripƟve study carried out from 1\6\2009 to 1\11\2009. A total of 200 paƟents were admiƩed
to medical and surgical wards in Baghdad teaching hospital, paƟents were divided into two group 100 paƟents, in
surgical ward and 100 paƟents in medical ward. Some of important information was recorded. Urine samples were
cultured on different culture media in order to isolate different pathogenic bacteria. Then, the sensitivity of these
isolates were tested against different antimicrobials, antibiotics (amikacin, ampicillin, cefixime, cefotaxime,
cephalexin, gentamycin, nalidixic acid, nitrofuranion, rifimpicin and vancomycin) and the effects of different
disinfectant solutions with different concentrations; including benzalkonium chloride (septicin, commercial),
chlorhexidine and povidoniodine (betadine, commercial), were tested as well on the growth of isolated bacteria.
Results: The results show that a high incidence of (UTI) as nosocomial infections appeared in medical and surgical
wards in Baghdad Teaching Hospital and most of paƟents were male at age groups ranged from 46-55 years and 36-45
years in medical and surgical ward respectively. The highest rate of UTIs increased in patients who had needed
catheterization procedures in both wards. Gram negative bacteria were commonly p. aeuroginosa and E. coli, less
commonly gram positive bacteria like methicillin-resistant Satph aureus were isolated as etiologic agents of UTIs
infections in both wards. Moreover, multi-drug resistance for common use antibiotics was observed in most virulent
species like Pseudomonas aeuroginos and Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Nitrofurantion was the
best drug for all bacterial isolates. It was obvious that 10-15% of povidione-iodine solution has more effect on the
growth controlling of pathogenic bacteria, especially Pseudomonas aeuroginos isolates. The results indicated
significant differences (p˂0.01) between the effect of SepƟcin and Chlorhexidine on the acƟvity of isolated bacteria.
Recommendations: The study recommends that the catheter should be changed every 2 days, especially if signs of
urinary tract infections appear and using antimicrobial catheters and intelligent use of aseptic techniques, and limiting
the use of antibiotics and the use of most effective disinfectant in the exact concentration specified by the
manufacture, and the detection antibiotic resistance gene using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) technique.
A monthly correlation between urban vegetation growth and potential evapotranspiration (PET) is needed for better knowledge of controlling water resources and organized irrigation processes. This study aims to explore their relationship within an urban area like Baghdad, using a linear regression model to derive a best-fit line drawn in a scatterplot on a monthly time scale. Based on two different monthly data sources: weather variables (e.g., air temperature, solar radiation, and relative humidity) and Sentinel-2 satellite imagery of 2 years, 2018 and 2021, this study presented the interannual variations of PET and normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI). The choice of these ye
Water is a resource and a crucial aspect of living and surviving. In Iraq, the Tigris River is one of the most critical water sources. The present study aimed to provide an insight analysis of some water quality parameters including the microbial content of drinkable tap water and river water. Ten Water samples (T1- T10) in triplicate were collected from sampling sites -Site I (Tap water) from home water taps, supplied by the Water Filtration Station/ Al Karama Project/ Al-Karkh> 10 from Site II (R1- R10)River water from Tigris River (around or near the Water Filtration Station/ Al Karama Project) every week (from September to half of November 2022), then were immediately placed in sterile bottles and transported to Microbiolo

The samples were inoculated into peptone water and, then, subcultured onto MacConkey agar and Blood agar. Identification of isolates was confirmed by microscopic examination, cultural characteristic, biochemical tests, Vitek (VITEK®2 system), and Biolog GN substrate reactions followed by 16S rRNA and specific genes sequencing. Of 60 raw cow’s milk samples, Providencia spp. were identified only in 4 samples (6.67%) and P. rettgeri was the most common, 2/4 (50%), followed by P. stuartii and P. vermicola, 1/4 (25%). Antimicrobial susceptibility tests were conducted against ten antibiotics by the disc diffusion method. All Provid

The objective was to achieve average air dry bulb temperatures (43 oC) below the ambient wet bulb temperatures (24.95 oC) with an average relative humidity of 23%, aiming for unparalleled cooling efficiency. The research experiment was carried out in the urban environment of Baghdad, characterized by high temperature conditions. The investigation focused on the potential of the two-stage parallel flow setup, combined with the cooling capability of aspen pads, to surpass the limitat

The starting point focuses on the geographic characteristics, and the nature of its habitation, prior to laying the circular plan of Baghdad. Then the research proceeds to cover the stage of building the round city of Baghdad. The research continue to cover the expansion and sequential growth across the banks of Tigris river.
A concentrated attention is devoted to analyses the morphological, geographical and above all the makeup of present day city of Baghdad, pinpointing the apathetic plans, decisions, and actions which completely disfigured the image, and tradition of the old city of Baghdad, behind the delusive slogans of “comprehens
Baghdad is considered the largest city in Iraq, with a population of approximately nine million people, according to the 2022 statistics. Due to this population increase, the city of Baghdad has experienced horizontal expansion rather than vertical expansion, resulting in a shortage of basic services, an increase in population migration, and a rise in prices. Therefore, our research focuses on shedding light on the patterns of population concentrations in the city of Baghdad and the nature of population distribution within it. We addressed the topic from various angles, starting with the population distribution among the city's districts and their density. Additionally, we explored the factors influencing population density in the province

Noise exposure is a common hazard to workforce in general although at varying degrees depending on the occupation, as many workers are exposed for long periods of time to potentially hazardous noise. A questionnaire was completed by 122 workers during this study in order to determine the physical, physiological, and psycho-social impacts of the noise on workers and to specify what kind of measurements have been taken both by the employers and workers for protection
