Effectiveness of an Educational Program on Patients’ Knowledge Concerning care of Vascular Access of Hemodialysis in Al-Muthana Teaching Hospitals
...Show More Authors

Objectives: The study aims to identify the effects of an educational program on patients’ knowledge about vascular access care and to find out the relationship between patients knowledge scores and their selected demographic variable.

Methodology: A quasi –experimental design of study was carried out at hemodialysis units of AL-Muthana teaching hospitals started from October 11th, 2018 through March 19th 2019. Non-probability purposive sample of (50) patients, who were in hemodialysis units, was selected from AL-Muthana teaching hospitals. The data were collected through the use of constructing a questionnaire, which consisted of three parts (1) Demographic data form that consisted of (6) items and (2) patient history consisted of (7) items, (3) patients' -care Knowledge consisted of (29) items. Reliability of the questionnaire was determined through a pilot study and the validity through a panel of (13) experts. Descriptive statistical analysis procedures (frequency, percentage, mean of score) and inferential statistical analysis procedures (T-TEST) and (ANOVA) were used for the data analysis Data is collected by a structured interview with patients.

Results: The results of the study indicated that more of half of the study sample were male, their age within 41-50 years, most of them were married and most of the level of education were read and. The study results of pre-test for the case and control groups revealed that there is knowledge deficit for the patients' regarding care toward vascular access for hemodialysis . While the results of post-test showed that the knowledge of case group patients were improved due to the positive effect of the educational program upon them. There is no significant association between the effectiveness of educational program and demographic data involved age, gender, level of education, occupation and family number, except the level of education there is significant association with effectiveness of an educational program at P≤0.05 level.

Recommendations: The researcher recommended to establish special health education programs for the patient through mass media about the danger End Stage Renal Disease, Special and continuing education program should be applied to all patients in hemodialysis ward, Engaging patients to participating in special activity to increase patients' knowledge.

Utilizing Konjac Sponge Carrier to EnhancePolyhydroxybutyrate Production Using Bacillus Subtilis and Loquat Seeds in Solid-State Fermentation
...Show More Authors

Solid-state fermentation (SSF) is an advanced bioprocess technique with several advantages; however, various challenges including nutrient heterogeneity and limited mass transfer. To address these limitations, this study investigated the use of konjac sponge as an inert carrier for Bacillus subtilis in an adsorbed-carrier SSF (ACSSF) system employing loquat seed hydrolysate, and examined the effects of substrate composition, moisture content, and inoculum size, which were subsequently optimized. The results demonstrate that the adsorbed carrier system enables better contact between the microorganism and the substrate, leading to boosted mass transfer and hence Polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) production. Under the optimized conditions (pH

Total L-carnitine and insulin resistance in non-obese and obese Iraqi women with polycystic ovary syndrome
...Show More Authors

Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most frequent endocrine illnesses affecting reproductive - age women. L-carnitine has important roles in oxidative stress, energy production and glucose metabolism. It affects insulin resistance as decreased plasma carnitine level has been well reported in type II diabetes mellitus. Hence, it means L-carnitine may reduce insulin resistance which is found in PCO disease. Objective: This study aims to measure the level of L-carnitine and insulin resistance in both obese and non- obese patients with PCOS. Patients and Methods: Sixty women within the reproductive age with PCOS (30 obese and 30 non- obese) were recruited from the Gynecology and Obstetrics Outpatient Clinic in Baghdad T

Using BIM for Optimizing the Upgrading Cost to Convert the Traditional Buildings to Sustainable Buildings in Iraq
...Show More Authors
Abstract
A high percentage of existing buildings in Iraq are traditional buildings, yet there is approximately no such green building in Baghdad or other governorates. Most of these buildings require urgent upgrading to increase their performance (operationally, economically, and environmentally), also the building owners looking for identifying and implementing many of the green building measures to reduce the operational and maintenance costs of their buildings. The decision-makers need to support the possibility of achieving sustainable measures of existing building rating systems such as LEED or BREEAM, and that would require an optimization model. The goal of this study is to maximize the
... Show More

CONJUGATE NATURAL CONVECTION IN A POROUS ENCLOSURE SANDWICHED BY FINITE WALLS AND SUBJECTED TO CONVECTION COOLING CONDITION
...Show More Authors

Steady conjugate natural convection heat transfers in a two-dimensional enclosure filled with fluid saturated porous medium is studied numerically. The two vertical boundaries of the enclosure are kept isothermally at same temperature, the horizontal upper wall is adiabatic, and the horizontal lower wall is partially heated. The Darcy extended Brinkman Forcheimer model is used as the momentum equation and Ansys Fluent software is utilized to solve the governing equations. Rayleigh number (1.38 ≤ Ra ≤ 2.32), Darcy number (3.9 * 10-8), the ratio of conjugate wall thickness to its height (0.025 ≤ W ≤ 0.1), heater length to the bottom wall ratio (1/4 ≤  ≤ 3/4) and inclination angle (0°, 30° and 60°) are the main consid

Wellbore instability management using geomechanical modeling and wellbore stability analysis for Zubair shale formation in Southern Iraq
...Show More Authors
Abstract
Wellbore instability problems cause nonproductive time, especially during drilling operations in the shale formations. These problems include stuck pipe, caving, lost circulation, and the tight hole, requiring more time to treat and therefore additional costs. The extensive hole collapse problem is considered one of the main challenges experienced when drilling in the Zubair shale formation. In turn, it is caused by nonproductive time and increasing well drilling expenditure. In this study, geomechanical modeling was used to determine a suitable mud weight window to overpass these problems and improve drilling performance for well development. Three failure criteria, including Mohr–Coulomb, modifie
... Show More
