Assessment of Factors That Contribute to Bladder Cancer
...Show More Authors

Abstract Objective: The study aimed to assess the factors contributes of patient with bladder cancer and to find out the relationship between the factors of bladder cancer with certain variable. Methodology: A descriptive study to assessment of factors that contribute to bladder cancer that was carried out Al-Karama teaching hospital, Al-Kendy teaching hospital, Specialty Surgery teaching hospital and Al-Yarmok teaching hospital for the period of November 2003 to August 2004. A purposive (non-probability) sample of (100) patients with bladder cancer. An assessment from was constructed for the purpose of the study. It comprised of two parts, which were dealing with the demographic information sheet, and factors contribute. Test- retest reliability was employed through computation of Pearson correlation coefficient. Content validity of assessment form was determined through a panel of experts and pilot study. Data were collected through the application of the questionnaire and interview technique. The assessment was conducted during the period (10th) March 2004 to (5th) August 2004. Data were analyzed through descriptive statistical approach. Result: The study concluded that the age over (50) years, majority of them was male, married, they had low level education, and most of them were smoking and drinking tea. Recommendation: The study recommended that to stop smoking and establishing specialized center of bladder cancer in Iraq. Key wards: Factors, Bladder cancer

The alluvial fan of Mandali located between latitude 30˚45’00” N longitude 45˚30’00” E in east of Diyala Governorate, Iraq. Thirty-five wells were identified in the study area with average depth of 84 m and estimated area of 21550 ha. A three-dimensional conceptual model was prepared by using GMS program. From wells cross sections, four geological layers have been identified. The hydraulic conductivity of these layers was calculated for steady state condition, where the water levels for nine wells distributed over the study area were observed at same time. Afterward, PEST facility in the GMS was used to estimate the aquifer hydraulic characteristics. Other characteristics such as storage coefficient and specific yield have

Correlation of GSTP1 gene variants of male Iraqi waterpipe (Hookah) tobacco smokers and the risk of lung cancer
...Show More Authors

Glutathione-S-transferases (GSTs) play a role in the detoxification of environmental chemicals and mutagens, such as those inhaled during tobacco smoking. There have been conflicting reports concerning GST polymorphisms as risk factors in the development of lung cancer. No studies focused on Arab populations exposed to Waterpipe (WP) tobacco smoke have been undertaken. Here Polymerase Chain Reaction-Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) and gene sequenc- ing were applied to analyze allelic variations in GSTP1-rs1695 and -rs1138272 amongst 123 lung cancer patients and 129 controls. The data suggest that WP smoking raised the risk of lung cancer more than three-fold (OR 3.6; 95% CI 2.1–6.0; p < 0.0001). However, there was no s

197 vaginal swabs were collected from women of different ages. (60) Isolates of Candida albicans (30.4%) were obtained, and the other species of Candida represent (18.27%). Bacterial infections showed (41.11%), and infection with Trichomonas vaginalis was (2.03%). Ten isolates of C. albicans were chosen randomly for farther study which include two virulence factors tendency of adhesion wich showed a percentage of (52%) to(32%) , and the ability to produce phospholipaze enzyme and it’s activity which showed (50%) of the isolates have the ability to produce the enzyme in different degrees .

Matter density distribution and longitudinal form factors for the ground and excited states of 17Ne exotic nucleus
...Show More Authors

The two-frequency shell model approach is used to calculate the
ground state matter density distribution and the corresponding root
mean square radii of the two-proton17Ne halo nucleus with the
assumption that the model space of 15O core nucleus differ from the
model space of extra two loosely bound valence protons. Two
different size parameters bcore and bhalo of the single particle wave
functions of the harmonic oscillator potential are used. The
calculations are carried out for different configurations of the outer
halo protons in 17Ne nucleus and the structure of this halo nucleus
shows that the dominant configuration when the two halo protons in

Cytotoxic effects of new synthesis heterocyclic derivatives of Amoxicillin on some cancer cell lines

A new Schiff base [I] was prepared by refluxing Amoxicillin trihydrate and 4-Hydroxy- 3,5-dimethoxybenzaldehyde in aqueous methanol solution using glacial acetic acid as a catalyst. The new 1,3-oxazepine derivative [II] was obtained by Diels- Alder reaction of Schiff base [I] with phthalic anhydride in dry benzene. The reaction of Schiff base [I] with thioglycolic acid in dry benzene led to the formation of thiazolidin-4-one derivative [III]. While the imidazolidin-4-one [IV] derivative was produced by reacting the mentioned Schiff base [I] with glycine and triethylamine in ethanol for 9 hrs. Tetrazole derivative [V] was synthesized by refluxing Schiff base [I] with sodium azide in dimethylformamid DMF. The structure of synthesized compound

Resveratrol protects mice against SEB‐induced acute lung injury and mortality by miR‐193a modulation that targets TGF‐β signalling
...Show More Authors
Abstract<p>Staphylococcal enterotoxin B (SEB) is a potent superantigen produced by Staphylococcus aureus that triggers a strong immune response, characterized by cytokine storm, multi‐organ failure, and often death. When inhaled, SEB can cause acute lung injury (ALI) and respiratory failure. In this study, we investigated the effect of resveratrol (RES), a phytoallexin, on SEB‐driven ALI and mortality in mice. We used a dual‐exposure model of SEB in C3H/HeJ mice, which caused 100% mortality within the first 5 days of exposure, and treatment with RES resulted in 100% survival of these mice up to 10 days post‐SEB exposure. RES reduced the inflammatory cytokines in the serum an</p> ... Show More
