Facies, Depositional Environment and Cyclicity of the Fatha Formation in East Baghdad Oil Field, Iraq.
...Show More Authors

This study deals with establishing the depositional environment of the Fatha Formation through facies analysis. It also deals with dividing the formation into units based on the rhythmic nature. Data from selected shallow wells near Hit area and deep wells at East Baghdad Oil field are used. Five major lithofacies are recognized in this study, namely, greenish grey marl, limestone, gypsum (and/or anhydrite), halite and reddish brown mudstone (with occasional sandstone). The limestone lithofacies is divided into three microfacies: Gastropods bioclastic wackestone microfacies, Gastropods peloidal bioclastic packstone, and Foraminiferal packstone microfacies. The lithofacies of the Fatha are nested in a rhythmic pattern or what is known as shallowing-upwards cycle. Each rhythm begins with shallow marine subtidal environment followed by hypersaline lagoonal environment then supersaline lakes and Salinas, and may finally terminate with continental deposits. Each regressive rhythm is followed by a transgressive phase. According the repitions of the lithofacies, the Fatha Formation can be divided stratigraphically into three units namely Unit 1, Unit 2 and Unit 3 (in ascending order). Different kinds of nesting of lithofacies are recognized in each unit. Only Unit 2 shows complete rhythms.

MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTE IN IRAQ BETWEEN THE HAMMER OF POPULATION GROWTH AND THE ANVIL OF THE ADMINISTRATION, FACTS, TREATMENTS AND VISION OF THE FUTURE: MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTE IN IRAQ BETWEEN THE HAMMER OF POPULATION GROWTH AND THE ANVIL OF THE ADMINISTRATION, FACTS, TREATMENTS AND VISION OF THE FUTURE
...Show More Authors

Municipal solid waste is one of the most important environmental problems in the world and is an important source of environmental pollution and contributes significantly to the pollution of the basic environmental elements of soil, water and air. The management of municipal waste in general is a process of monitoring, collection, treatment or recycling if possible or disposal of waste. This term is used for waste produced by some human activities. States provide this process to mitigate the negative effects of waste on the environment, health and appearance of the city. It is possible to find solutions to the problem of solid waste and make it an important source of income and contribute to securing employment oppor

The free zone or the free economy cities are cities with classification and functional specificity, although the history of  the concept of these areas has been It dates back to distant eras, but the intellectual and philosophical construction with the support of intellectual approaches, the most important of which is globalization contributed to its rapid spread globally and taking a variety of forms and models. With the diversity of its formulas and objectives countries have competed in adopting the establishment of these areas, meanwhile The influence of related trends affected the contemporary formation of these sites. Therefore ,the research was directed focus on the importance of adopting a set of common indicators (collection

Study of the Effect of Redbelly Tilapia (Coptodon zillii (Gervais, 1848)) (Cichliformes: Cichlidae) on the Sustainability of the Iraqi Aquatic Environment: A Review
...Show More Authors

This research reviews studies that identify the habitats of the redbelly tilapia, Coptodon zillii, in Iraq, the environmental conditions favorable to this species distribution and proliferation, as well as its economic and social significance as a food source. Additonally, the study examines its effects on biodiversity through competition with native fish species for resources, as well as its role as reservoirs of pathogens, its adverse effect on human health due to the tendency to retain oil crude inside the tissues, and its impact on environmental and water quality by increasing water turbidity. Finally, the review exhibits recommendations for strategies to mitigate its detrimental effects on biodiversity as well as environment.

A study of some Biological Aspects of Procellio scaber(Isopoda : porcellionidae) Latrellile 1804In Al-jadriyia region /Baghdad-Iraq
...Show More Authors

A study of some biological aspects of the crustacean Isopod procellio scaber was carried out for the period April 2003 to march 2004 . The study consisted reproductive and morphological characteristies such as size , weight and length of the body . The result showed that the highest population density of P. scaber was 1120 individual/m2 in September 2003 and less density 403 ind/m2 in February 2004. The density was generally high in Spring and Autumn, low in Summer and Winter months. An increase of the sexual ratio appear in the females number compared to males number (p < 0.05) during most of year. Present study showed non significant increase in the length and dry weight for females compared to males in most of year months. There wer

Spectrophotometric determination of cefixime by charge transfer complex formation
...Show More Authors

Simple, sensitive and economical spectrophotometric methods have been developed for the determination of cefixime in pure form. This method is based on the reaction of cefixime as n-electron donor with chloranil to give highly colored complex in ethanol which is absorb maximally at 550 nm. Beer's law is obeyed in the concentration ranges 5-250 µg ml-1 with high apparent molar absorptivities of 1.52×103 L.mole-1. cm-1.

Nanoparticles influence on wetting behaviour of fractured limestone formation
...Show More Authors

Nanoparticles have gained considerable interest in recent times for oil recovery purposes owing to significant capabilities in wettability alteration of reservoir rocks. Wettability is a key factor controlling displacement efficiency and ultimate recovery of oil. The present study investigates the influence of zirconium (IV) oxide (ZrO2) and nickel (II) oxide (NiO) nanoparticles on the wetting preference of fractured (oil-wet) limestone formations. Wettability was assessed through SEM, AFM and contact angle. The potentials of the nanoparticles to alter oil-wet calcite substrates water wet, was experimentally tested at low nanoparticle concentrations (0.004–0.05 wt%). Quite similar behaviour was observed for both nanoparticles at the same
