Spider Veins Treatment using 1064 nm Long-Pulse Nd:YAG Laser
...Show More Authors

spider veins are clusters of Ectatic venules & are common finding on the lower limbs generally believed to be caused by multiple factors, including genetic predisposition, hormonal factors, gravity, occupation, pregnancy, becoming increasingly apparent with age, and trauma. Therapeutic options include sclerotherapy, surgical procedures, and treatment with different laser systems.

Objectives: The purpose of the study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of long pulsed (Nd:YAG) laser emitting at 1064nm in the treatment of spider veins.

Patients, Materials and Methods: This prospective study was done in the laser medicine research clinics of the Institute of laser for postgraduate Studies / University of Baghdad from September 2016 until the end of December 2016. The study included ten patients between the ages of 22 to 55 years suffered from spider veins of the lower limbs. They were treated with a long pulsed (Nd:YAG) laser in a non contact technique using the following laser parameters (wavelength 1064 nm ,energy 30-73 J, pulse duration 10-30 ms, frequency 2Hz, spot diameter 3-7mm ). Laser therapy was performed on day zero and day fourteen. Clinical assessments were carried out before laser therapy and immediately after the first laser therapy, 2 weeks, 4 weeks, and 6 weeks later.

Results: Results showed that there was a remarkable improvement for all patients after the second treatment. Six patients (60%) showed a complete disappearance of the spider veins and there was an improvement for four patients (40%) with no significant intraoperative and postoperative pain or complications, within short operative time.

Conclusion: The long pulsed (Nd:YAG) laser (1064 nm) is an effective and safe treatment option for lower limbs spider veins

A Comparative Study Using LZW with Wavelet or DCT for Compressing Color Images
...Show More Authors

As a result of the significance of image compression in reducing the volume of data, the requirement for this compression permanently necessary; therefore, will be transferred more quickly using the communication channels and kept in less space in memory. In this study, an efficient compression system is suggested; it depends on using transform coding (Discrete Cosine Transform or bi-orthogonal (tap-9/7) wavelet transform) and LZW compression technique. The suggested scheme was applied to color and gray models then the transform coding is applied to decompose each color and gray sub-band individually. The quantization process is performed followed by LZW coding to compress the images. The suggested system was applied on a set of seven stand

FIVE DIATOM SPECIES IDENTIFIED BY USING POTENTIAL APPLICATION OF NEXT GENERATION DNA SEQUENCING
...Show More Authors

Molecular barcoding was widely recognized as a powerful tool for the identification of organisms during the past decade; the aim of this study is to use the molecular approach to identify the diatoms by using the environmental DNA. The diatom specimens were taken from Tigris River. The environmental DNA(e DNA) extraction and analysis of sequences using the Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) method showed the highest percentage of epipelic diatom genera including Achnanthidium minutissimum (Kützing) Czarnecki, 1994 (21.1%), Cocconeis placentula Ehrenberg, 1838 (21.3%) and Nitzschia palea (Kützing) W. Smith, 1856 (16.3%).

Mechanism of Using of Income Tax in Achievable of Economic Targets in Iraq
...Show More Authors

The present study is concerned with the role of income tax in implementing economic goals in Iraq and treating the problems and pitfalls in the Iraq economy.

The study also aims at investigating the role of income tax in attracting promising favorite effects into economy.

The study was performed on data covering the period (2003 - 2012) with respect to the variables of (income tax, oil profits) as independent variables and (private consuming expenditure, private investmental expenditure, and standard figure of prices) as dependent variables. To analyze these data, a number of statistical descriptive and analytical techniques were used such as (percentage, standard variance, mediums, F test, T test and SPSS). It has been c

Improvement of the Gypseous soil properties by using Copolymer and Styrene-butadiene rubber
...Show More Authors
Abstract<p>Gypseous soils are spread in several regions in the world including Iraq, where it covers more than 28.6% [1] of the surface region of the country. This soil, with high gypsum content causes different problems in construction and strategic projects. As a result of water flow through the soil mass, permeability and chemical arrangement of these soils vary over time due to the solubility and leaching of gypsum. In this study the soil of 36% gypsum content, is taken from one location about 100 km (62 mi) southwest of Baghdad, where the sample is taken from depth (0.5 - 1) m below the natural ground surface and mixed with (3%, 6%, 9%) of Copolymer and Styrene-butadiene Rubber to improve t</p> ... Preparation and characterization of timed drug delivery system of sumatriptan using natural polymers
...Show More Authors

Pulsatile drug delivery systems are time-controlled dosage forms which are designed to release the active pharmaceutical ingredient after a predetermined lag time to synchronize the disease circadian rhythm. A migraine shows circadian rhythm with a marked increase in attacks between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m.

Sumatriptan is a selective agonist at serotonin (5-Hydroxy tryptamine1  (5-HT1))receptors, is an effective treatment for acute migraine attacks.

The aim of this work is to prepare time-controlled press-coated tablet with a lag time of 5.45 hrs.

Six formulas of fast dissolving core tablets and three formulas of press-coated tablets were prepared by using direct compression method using different variables to prepa

Mobile-based Telemedicine Application using SVD and F-XoR Watermarking for Medical Images
...Show More Authors

A medical- service platform is a mobile application through which patients are provided with doctor’s diagnoses based on information gleaned from medical images. The content of these diagnostic results must not be illegitimately altered during transmission and must be returned to the correct patient. In this paper, we present a solution to these problems using blind, reversible, and fragile watermarking based on authentication of the host image. In our proposed algorithm, the binary version of the Bose_Chaudhuri_Hocquengham (BCH) code for patient medical report (PMR) and binary patient medical image (PMI) after fuzzy exclusive or (F-XoR) are used to produce the patient's unique mark using secret sharing schema (SSS). Automatic Determination of Liquid's Interface in Crude Oil Tank using Capacitive Sensing Techniques
...Show More Authors

The petroleum sector has a significant influence on the development of multiphase detection sensor techniques; to separate the crude oil from water, the crude oil tank is used. In this paper, a measuring system using a simple and low cost two parallel plate capacitance sensor is designed and implemented based on a Micro controlled embedded system plus PC to automatically identify the (gas/oil) and (oil/water) dynamic multi-interface in the crude oil tank. The Permittivity differences of two-phase liquids are used to determine the interface of them by measuring the relative changes of the sensor’s capacitance when passes through the liquid’s interface. The experiment results to determine the liquid’s interface is sa
