Proceeding Bromometric Phenol Assay without Starch Indicator
...Show More Authors

In this research, we exclude starch indicator preparation, that is  used in official phenol assay method. The liberated iodine, in presence of chloroform, was acting as indicator and titrated with sodium thiosulfate until getting a sharp colorless end point. Similarly, starch was cancelled during both blank and standardization of bromine water solution experiments needed in phenol assay. The results obtained were the same volumes and weights as that achieved using starch with just about 0.03% difference in sample procedure. Finally, this work will enable us to save time, effort, fuel and materials spended in laboratory.

Key word:- Phenol, assay, starch indicator

The Safety Profile of Single Daily Dose of Aminoglycosides in Comparison with Multiple Daily Dose
...Show More Authors

To overcome  the  problems  which  associated  with  the standard  multiple  daily  doses (MDD)

of aminoglycosides (AGs) like high incidence of toxicity(nephrotoxicity, ototoxicity)(5-25%) and high cost, an alternative approach was developed which was single daily dose (SDD).This new regimen was designed to maximize bacterial killing by optimizing the peak concentration/minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC)ratio and to reduce the potential for toxicity. The study includes 75 patients selected randomly, 50 of them received SDD regimen of age range of 17-79 years and the remaining received MDD regimen of age range of 13-71 years. The study was designed to evaluate the safety of SDD regim

Composition and Temperature Dependence of Excess Volume of Heavy Oil-Stocks Mixtures + (Gas oil or Toluene or Reformate)
...Show More Authors

Binary mixtures of three, heavy oil-stocks was subjected to density measurements at temperatures of 30, 35 and 40 °C. and precise data was acquired on the volumetric behavior of these systems. The results are reported in terms of equations for excess specific volumes of mixtures. The heavy oil-stocks used were of good varity, namely 40 stock, 60 stock, and 150 stock. The lightest one is 40 stock with °API gravity 33.69 while 60 stock is a middle type and 150 stock is a heavy one, with °API gravity 27.74 and 23.79 respectively. Temperatures in the range of 30-40 °C have a minor effect on excess volume of heavy oil-stock binary mixture thus, insignificant expansion or shrinkage is observed by increasing the temperature this effect beco

Infinitive Clauses: Tensed or Untensed
...Show More Authors

Abstract In this paper, the researcher accounts for two different points of view concerning the tense of infinitive clauses in English language when functioning as verb complementation, and explains their bases and justifications. Some grammarians postulate that infinitive clauses complementation are tensed clauses, having the feature  tense , since they, sometimes, indicate time relations different from that of the matrix clause, while most grammarians and linguists say that infinitive clauses, in their two types- 'to'- infinitives and bare infinitives, are tenseless clauses; they are nonfinite clauses. Grammarians state that infinitive clauses functioning as verb complementation are tensed clauses due to the presence of some temp

Translating Poetry: Possibility or Impossibility?
...Show More Authors

Translating poetry is considered one of the most complicated types of translations. It
encounters many difficulties, the most important of which is the question of possibility or
impossibility of translating poetry. So, it is better to start by asking the following question: is
the translation of poetry possible? Or is it impossible? It is definitely a rhetorical question
because translation is as old as the presence of translated texts, which fills the shelves of
libraries. One can ask despite these difficulties, who would discourage people of the world
from translating poetry merely because it is fundamentally impossible? (Mann, 1970: 211)
The present paper will elaborate, in more detail, upon the necessary traits

Background:Hydrocephalus is dilatation of the ventricular system due to excessive production and/ or obstruction of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pathways. Different surgical procedure are used to treat this disease. Ventriculo peritoneal shunt is by far the most popular technique for CSF diversion..
Objective; To compare the programmable and non-programmable valves regarding the complications of both types
Methods:This study was conducted in the Neurosurgical hospital of Baghdad/Iraq over a period of 3 years from July 2008 to August 2011.
A special inclusion criteria has been tabulated for the selection of patients..
Results:.Fifty cases with hydrocephalus admitted and diagnosed by CT scan and treated by ventriculoperitoneal shun

Modified third order iterative method for solving nonlinear equations
...Show More Authors

Many numerical approaches have been suggested to solve nonlinear problems. In this paper, we suggest a new two-step iterative method for solving nonlinear equations. This iterative method has cubic convergence. Several numerical examples to illustrate the efficiency of this method by Comparison with other similar methods is given.

Cladding Modified Fiber Bragg Grating for Copper Ions Detection
...Show More Authors

This paper reports a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) as a biosensor. The FBGs were etched using a chemical agent, namely, hydrofluoric acid (HF). This implies the removal of some part of the cladding layer. Consequently, the evanescent field propagating out of the core will be closer to the environment and become more sensitive to the change in the surrounding. The proposed FBG sensor was utilized to detect toxic heavy metal ions aqueous medium namely, copper ions (Cu2+). Two FBG sensors were etched with 20 and 40 μm diameters and fabricated. The sensors were studied towards Cu2+ with different concentrations using wavelength shift as a result of the interaction between the evanescent field and copper ions. The FBG sensors showed
