Background and Aim: Camels from the central part of Iraq are infected with multiple parasitic diseases that have an economic impact by decreasing meat and milk production. This study aimed to evaluate Nematodirus spp. in camels (Camelus dromedarius). Materials and Methods: The study animals consisted of camels slaughtered in the central area of Iraq at the Al-Najaf slaughterhouse. All ages and sexes of camels were examined. Worms were recovered and identified microscopically. For molecular characterization, two Iraqi Nematodirus spp. partial ribosomal genes (ITS1 and ITS2) were sequenced and submitted to the NCBI database. Results: Of 160 camels tested, 29 were infected with Nematodirus spp. (18.13%). Twenty-one nematodes containing the Nematodirus genes were identified in the small intestines of naturally infected camels. BLAST analysis revealed 88.1% sequence similarity with that of Nematodirus helvetianus isolated in China and 87.2% similarity with N. helvetianus isolated in the United States. Conclusion: The prevalence of N. helvetianus warrants the use of anti-helminthic drugs for these animals and a rationale for future control strategies to prevent the transmission of this infection to other livestock.
The monitoring of lotic ecosystems is an important issue. This study investigated the total petroleum hydrocarbons (THP) in the Tigris River within Baghdad City, Iraq, which is considered the ultimate water supply source of the city. The study included measurement of THP concentrations, distribution, and origins of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPHs) in various matrices (water, sediment, and macrophyte) in Tigris River within Baghdad City, in addition to some environmental factors during two seasons (dry and wet) for October 2020 to April 2021. The sampling was collected from three sites along the river. Thirteen compounds were identified in the current investigation from total petroleum h
Objectives: To highlight the knowledge of Al-Kindy medical students regarding varicella infection and to assess their knowledge and attitude toward its prevention. Methodology: This descriptive cross-sectional study enrolled academic year 2020/2021 students at Al-Kindy College of Medicine from first to final year. We used an online questionnaire by Google forms to collect data, which were analyzed with SPSS 26. Results: A total of 208 students participated with 126 in the preclinical and 82 in the clinical grades. Generally, most clinical students were more aware about epidemiology, clinical manifestations, and complications of varicella infection than the preclinical students. Conclusion: Educational stage is a significant variab

Show MoreThe demand for expatriate labor to Iraq increased after 2003 as a result of the openness that Iraq experienced, but this expatriate labor, which was requested at an increasing rate, has had economic, social, and political effects on the Iraqi economy in general, and the Iraqi labor market in particular. This is due to the high rates of unemployment, as most of these expatriate workers cause competition to local labor, and thus cause repercussions on the Iraqi economy as a whole, except for those expatriate workers coming with companies working in the oil sector. In this paper, a comparison of production and domestic consumption of Iraq's food industries within economic environment of a sample of countries is presented. Tracked by a number of variables, To extrapolate the reality of this industry in terms of its importance to individual consumption and importance on national economy, then, to find size and type of obstacles facing the industry in Iraq. Relationship was measured through use of quantitative methods and digital data in the comparison process. Results showed that the large growth in the size of the population in Iraq is not the first multiplier in the high consumption of processed food, but the increase in the per-capita income. The treatment takes several aspects related to the gene

Show MoreA significant increase in the incidence of non-O157 verotoxigenic Escherichia coli (VTEC) infections have become a serious health issues, and this situation is worsening due to the dissemination of plasmid mediated multidrug-resistant microorganisms worldwide. This study aims to investigate the presence of plasmid-mediated verotoxin gene in non-O157 E. coli. Standard microbiological techniques identified a total of 137 E. coli isolates. The plasmid was detected by Perfectprep Plasmid Mini preparation kit. These isolates were subjected to disk diffusion assay, and plasmid curing with ethidium bromide treatment. The plasmid containing isolates were subjected to a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for investigating

The temporal boundaries of the study included the period between (2012-2018). The spatial boundaries consisted of random sampling of six Iraqi banks) Where the government banks included (Rafidain, Rasheed and industrial), private banks included (the Iraqi Islamic Bank and the Gulf Commercial Bank and the Bank of the Middle East). In order to achieve the objective of the research in the light of the hypotheses drawn up, the research divided into three topics, the first section highlighting the reality of small and medium enterprises in Iraq and the lo
... Show MoreBombay (Oh) and Para-Bombay are rare variants of the ABO blood group system that carry significant clinical importance. They are characterized by the absence or a marked reduction in the expression of the H antigen on red blood cells (RBCs). This deficiency leads to a failure in the synthesis of A and B antigens, predisposing patients—particularly those with the Bombay phenotype—to developing potent anti-H antibodies, which can cause severe hemolytic transfusion reactions. Objective: The primary goal is to provide clinicians and laboratory specialists with a practical and comprehensive framework to prevent avoidable blood mismatch and improve clinical outcomes for patients suffering from H-deficient phenotypes. Methods: This rev

Objectives: To synthesize a new series of isatin derivatives with the expectation that they will have antimicrobial activity. Methods: Thiazole Schiff bases were synthesized from various Mannich bases of isatin to evaluate their antimicrobial properties. Initially, Mannich bases (2a–e) were synthesized by reacting isatin with formaldehyde and different secondary amines. Subsequently, they were treated with 2-aminothiazole to yield the final compounds (3a–e). Spectroscopic characterization was done via FT-IR and 1H-NMR. The antimicrobial screening was conducted o
