Comparative Hepatoprotective Effects of Dapagliflozin to Silymarin Against Cyclophosphamide-Induced Liver Injury in Rats: Biochemical, Antioxidants and Histopathological Studies
...Show More Authors

Introduction. Hepatotoxicity is primarily-caused by oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction; and, it is the principal factor that restricts the clinical efficacy of cyclophosphamide (Cpd), which is a chemotherapeutic drug that is frequently-used. The antioxidant capabilities have been demonstrated by dapagliflozin (Dapa), which is an inhibitor of sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT2). Silymarin (Sil) is a chemical that is extracted from milk thistle. Researches have demonstrated that silymarin has hepatoprotective and antioxidant properties.

Aim. This study aimed to compare the hepatoprotective effects of dapagliflozin to silymarin in a rat model of Cpd-induced liver injury.

Material and methods. Negative control, vehicle (2 % aqueous sodium carboxy methylcellulose CMC), Cpd (30 mg/kg/ day, Intraperitoneal (ip), Dapa + Cpd (3 mg/kg/day, oral), and Sil + Cpd (200 mg/kg/day, oral) were the five groups that were randomly assigned to fifty rats. Each group consisted of ten rats. Following a period of ten days, evaluation the levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) in the serum; while, malondialdehyde (MDA), reduced glutathione (GSH), and superoxide dismutase (SOD) enzyme were all measured in liver tissues; and histological inspection was also performed on the samples.

Results and discussion. Levels of ALT, AST, and MDA were each considerably-increased by Cpd, while the levels of GSH and SOD were decreased ( P < 0.05). Treatment with either Dapa or Sil each with Cpd resulted in a significant amelioration of these alterations ( P < 0.05 compared to controls). The results of the study demonstrate that Dapa was more effective than Sil in lowering MDA levels and increasing of GSH and SOD levels ( P < 0.05). In the Dapa (Group IV), the histological examination revealed that the hepatic architecture had been intact, and there was only slight increase in vascular congestion.

Conclusion. Both dapagliflozin and silymarin each confer comparable hepatoprotective effects against Cpd-induced liver injury, possibly through attenuation of oxidative stress and preservation of hepatocyte integrity. The study adds to current evidence supporting the use of each of these agents in hepatic injury models. However, unlike the study of Satyam et al (2024) which investigated their combined effect, this study highlights their individual efficacy in a cyclophosphamide-specific toxicity model.

Comparative Study between Recycled Fine and Coarse Aggregate Used in Roller Compacted Concrete Pavement
...Show More Authors

To decrease the impact on the environment of building waste, the recycled aggregate may be used in various sustainable engineering applications, such as roller compacted concrete pavement (RCCP). This research examined how using recycled aggregate as a partial replacement for natural aggregate as coarse or fine affected the mechanical properties of roller-compacted concrete pavement. The recycled aggregate was crushed and sieved to coarse and fine aggregate before being used in the roller-compacted concrete pavement. Compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, and flexural strength were all evaluated after the samples were prepared at 28 and 90 days of curing. According to the study's findings, the partial replacem

...Show More Authors

The rapid spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus in 2019 infected many people, primarily affecting the respiratory system. Both COVID-19 and type 2 diabetes have been associated with numerous risks that have become life-threatening. The study studied the link between galectin levels and some clinical characteristics in Iraqis with type 2 diabetes and COVID-19 against those without diabetes. The study included 120 patients and healthy men. Three groups were formed for this study depending on the initial mutant cell line: 80 samples of individuals with type 2 diabetes, aged 40–60 years, with and without COVID-19, were included in each of the first and second groups. The control group consisted of 40 research participants who were matched for ag

Effects of Selenium Sources and Concentrations on the Performance, Meat Quality, and Tissue Properties of Broiler Chickens
...Show More Authors

We wanted to find out how selenium (Se) affects broiler chicken performance, meat physicochemical properties, and selenium deposition in the tissues of broilers. Each of the 96 experimental pens had 30 chickens and included a total of 2,880 one-day-old broilers (Cobb 500 strain). A factorial design of four-by-three (SY + SS) and eight replicates (SY + SS) was used for the 12 experimental treatments, with selenium levels ranging from 0.15 to 0.60 ppm and organic (SY) or inorganic (SS) sources of selenium and their relationship (SY + SS). There were no differences in performance (P > 0.05) across Se levels or sources. 106 g/day of ADFI, 63 g/day of ADG, and 1.6844 kg/kg of FCR were found to be the averaging values for these three parameters:

EVALUATION THE AVOIDANCE EFFECTS OF OXIDROXEDUCTASE AND CATECHINES FOR CATECHOL CYTOTOXICITY IN SOME TUMOR CELL LINES
...Show More Authors

The cytotoxic effect of catechol was examined in two human cancer cell lines, Epidermoid larynx carcinoma (Hep- 2), Cerebral glioblastoma multiforme (AMGM-5) and Murine mammary adenocarcinomacell (AMN3) treated with half concentrations of catechol (1000, 500, 250, 125, 62.5 and 32.25 μM) for 72 hr. The get hold of results showed catechol have a toxic effect of the cell viability of three types of cell lines after 72h of exposure, the toxicity was dependent on catechol concentrations and/or autoxidation for quinines formation, there were a marked decreased of cell viability in a dose dependent manner in all cell line types. Inhibition concentration of catechol for 50% of cell viability (IC50) were calculated, they were at 581.5 μM, 478 μM
