Clinical and Salivary Antioxidant Effects of Matcha Tea in Patients with Gingivitis: A Randomized Controlled Trial
...Show More Authors
Introduction

Gingivitis, the initial stage of periodontal disease, is characterised by inflammation driven by dental biofilm and associated with oxidative stress. Matcha tea, a powdered green tea rich in antioxidants, has shown potential health benefits. This study aimed to investigate the effect of Matcha tea consumption on clinical periodontal parameters and salivary antioxidant levels in patients with gingivitis.

Methods

A randomised controlled clinical trial was conducted with 41 participants diagnosed with gingivitis. Participants were randomly allocated to a Matcha tea group (n=21) who consumed two cups of Matcha tea daily for 30 days, or a control group (n=20) who received standard oral hygiene instructions. Primary outcomes were clinical periodontal parameters (Plaque Index [PI], Bleeding on Probing percentage [BOP%], Gingival Index [GI]), and secondary outcomes were salivary levels of Malondialdehyde (MDA), Superoxide Dismutase (SOD), and Glutathione Peroxidase 1 (GPX1), assessed at baseline and after 30 days.

Results

Both groups showed significant within-group improvements in PI, BOP%, and GI at the 30-day follow-up (p<0.01). However, there were no statistically significant differences in these clinical parameters between the Matcha tea and control groups at the endpoint. The Matcha tea group exhibited a significant reduction in salivary MDA levels (p=0.002) and significantly higher salivary SOD (p=0.047) and GPX1 (p=0.027) levels compared to the control group at the 30-day follow-up.

Discussion

The biochemical improvements are attributed to Matcha's potent antioxidants, which favorably modulate the oral redox balance. The lack of superior clinical outcomes suggests that the profound effect of mechanical plaque control may have overshadowed any adjunctive benefits from Matcha within the 30-day trial. This highlights a potential disconnect between systemic antioxidant modulation and localised clinical changes in gingivitis management.

Conclusion

Daily consumption of Matcha tea for one month favorably modulated salivary antioxidant biomarkers in patients with gingivitis, reducing lipid peroxidation and increasing antioxidant enzyme levels. However, these biochemical changes did not translate into statistically significant differences in clinical periodontal parameters beyond standard oral hygiene within this study's timeframe.

Association of Interleukin-12B Polymorphism and Serum Level of Interleukin-12 in a Sample of Iraqi Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis
...Show More Authors

Background In rheumatoid arthritis, your immune system attacks the tissue lining the joints on both sides of your body. Other parts of the body may also be affected. Unsure of the exact cause. Two separate genes termed IL12A (p35) and IL12 encode the heterodimeric cytokine known as IL12 (p40). Several different hematopoietic cell types can have several different hematopoietic cell types that can generate antigen-presenting cells (APCs), including DCs and macrophages. Objectives This study aimed to investigate if the interleukin IL-12B gene's common polymorphisms in an Iraqi population were associated with RA. Material and methods Blood samples were taken from 70 Iraqi patients with RA illnesses and 30 Iraqi controls during the periods from

Background: Orthodontic mini-implants are increasingly used in orthodontics and the bone density is a very important factor in stabilization and success of mini-implant. The aim of this study was to observe the relationship among maximum bite force (MBF); body mass index (BMI); face width, height and type; and bone density in an attempt to predict bone density from these variables to eliminate the need for CT scan which have a highly hazard on patient. Materials and Methods: Computed tomographic (CT) images were obtained for 70 patients (24 males and 46 females) with age range 18-30 years. The maxillary and mandibular buccal cortical and cancellous bone densities were measured between 2nd premolar and 1st molar at two levels from the alveol

Airway-centric Orthodontics: A Narrative Review of Current Evidence and Clinical Implications
...Show More Authors
Abstract<p>Airway-centric orthodontics has been proposed as a conceptual framework that extends the traditional understanding of craniofacial development, functional disturbances, and orthodontic treatment outcomes beyond a purely dental perspective. This approach focuses on the potential interplay among upper airway characteristics, breathing patterns, and orofacial muscle function in influencing facial growth and occlusal relationships. This narrative review aims to outline the theoretical foundations of airway-centric orthodontics and to synthesize current evidence regarding the associations among upper airway characteristics, craniofacial morphology, and orthodontic interventions. Econazole nitrate (EN) is considered as the most effective agent for the treatment of all forms of dermatomycosis caused by dernatophytes. It was formulated as a topical solution in our laboratories. This study was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of Econazol Nitrate in the prepared formula and compared with that of commercial brand, Pevaryl®. A total of 104 patient suffering from dermatomycoses were involved in this investigation. Both formula were applied to the affected skin region in the morning and evening from week to 16 weeks with light massage until complete healing effect was achieved. The data revealed that the percentage of cured patient treated with the prepared formula and reference formula of Ecanozol Nitrate 1% so
