Abstract 18956: Knowledge of and Attitude Towards Clinical Trials Among Women in Rural Areas: A Survey-Based Study
...Show More Authors

Introduction: In evidence-based era of cardiology with emerging of potential therapies, it is crucial to include diverse population in terms of (geography, gender, race, and economic status) in clinical trials (CT) to enhance generalizability of trials results. Such inclusion necessitates exploring barriers and motivators of diverse population for participation in CT. There is lack of data from Middle Eastern countries regarding perspectives of population about CT. Furthermore, there is no data about perceptions of Iraqi population in general and women in particular regarding CT.

Research question: We aim to explore knowledge and perceptions of female patients about CT.

Methods: Paper-based survey was filled by investigators during face-to-face interview with women attending healthcare facilities in a rural area in Iraq.

Results: n=50, mean age=28.7 year, 50% had primary education level. 36% defined CT as experiments to test a new drug or procedure. Main concerns to participate in CT was safety 62%. 32% said they would participate in CT if they were asked to. 20% said they will participate in CT involving surgery or procedure if were asked to. 80% reported they would participate in education CT (CT involving telemedicine/video programs as intervention). Although all participants never participated in CT before, 80% had concerns about CT in general. 34% of women thought that family duties could prevent them from commitment with trials. 70% agreed to participate in clinical trials if drug safety was ensured, while 90% refused to participate in trials if the drug had unknown safety. 86% of participants agree to participate in trials if it was open label.

Conclusions: Safety was a major concern of respondents for participation in CT. Establishing patient public involvement is essential step towards initiating CT ecosystem in Iraq. Being aware of population perceptions and concerns are critical to include this under-represented population in cardiovascular CT.

The Necessity of Teaching Diabetic Patients the Correct way of Insulin Administration: A Clinical Trial to Improve Glycemic Control
...Show More Authors

Background: It is important to achieve good glycemic control to avoid long-term diabetic complications. It has been largely debated about the role of correct way of insulin administration to get the desired glycemic control.
Objective: To evaluate the effect of teaching diabetic patients who are on insulin therapy the correct way of injecting insulin and its effect on glycemic control.
Methods: A non randomized clinical trial with 820 diabetic patients on insulin therapy on whom A1 c estimation was performed before and after three months of teaching them the right injection technique.
Results : Sixty seven patients (8.17%) had A1 c 6.5% before they were enrolled in the study while the majority (753 patents, 91.82%) had A1 c 6.5%

Antimicrobial Activity of Lepidium Sativum against Multi drug resistant and sensitive Pseudomonas aeruginosa from clinical isolates, Khartoum State, Sudan: Lepidium Sativum against Clinical isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa
...Show More Authors

Background: L. sativum, are traditionally used for the treatment of various diseases and thought to have medicinal value. Isolates from many part of the world is now multidrug resistant. Therefore, there is an urgent need to look for and test an alternative herbal drug.

Objective: The present study aimed to evaluate the antibacterial activity of L. Sativum seed extract against multi drug resistant (MDR) and sensitive Pseudomonas aeruginosa clinical isolates.

Subjects and Methods: An ethanolic and aqueous stock extracts were prepared from L.  sativum seed plant then serial dilutions were prepared and the obtained concentrations (50, 25, 12.5 and 6.2 mg/ml) were tested against 30 multidrug-resistan

Metrical Phonology in Classical English and Arabic Poetry: A Contrastive Study
...Show More Authors

One of the prominent goals of Metrical Phonology Theory is providing stress of poetry on the syllable-, the foot-, and the phonological word- levels. Analysing poetry is one of the most prominent and controversial issues for the involved number and types of syllables, feet, and meters are stable in poetry compared to other literary texts. The prosodic seeds of the theory have been planted by Firth (1948) in English, while in Arabic يديهارفلا in the second half of the eighth century (A.D.) has done so. Investigating the metrical structure of poetry has been conducted in various languages, whereas scrutinising the metrical structure of English and Arabic poetry has received little attention. This study aims at capturing the

Find cares studying ways in the development of industrial products and designs: the way the progressive development (how typical) and root development (jump design), was the aim of the research: to determine the effectiveness of the pattern and the jump in the development of designs and industrial products. After a process of analysis of a sample of research and two models of contemporary household electrical appliances, it was reached a set of findings and conclusions including:1-leaping designs changed a lot of entrenched perceptions of the user on how the product works and its use and the size and shape of the product, revealing him about the possibilities of sophisticated relationships with the product, while keeping the typical desi

Thermochromic and opacity behaviors in vanadium dioxide nanofilms: a theoretical study
...Show More Authors
Abstract<p>Vanadium dioxide nanofilms are one of the most essential materials in electronic applications like smart windows. Therefore, studying and understanding the optical properties of such films is crucial to modify the parameters that control these properties. To this end, this work focuses on investigating the opacity as a function of the energy directed at the nanofilms with different thicknesses (1–100) nm. Effective mediator theories (EMTs), which are considered as the application of Bruggeman’s formalism and the Looyenga mixing rule, have been used to estimate the dielectric constant of VO2 nanofilms.
