Schiff bases, named after Hugo Schiff, are aldehyde- or ketone-like compounds in which the carbonyl group is replaced by imine or azomethine group. They are widely used for industrial purposes and also have a broad range of applications as antioxidants. An overview of antioxidant applications of Schiff bases and their complexes is discussed in this review. A new series of transition metal complexes of Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II) and Fe(III) have been synthesized from the Schiff base (L1) and (L2) derived from Semicarbazide hydro chloride and 4-chlorobenzaldehyde or 4-bromobenzaldehyde. The structural features have been arrived from their elemental analyses, magnetic susceptibility, molar conductivity, IR, UV-Vis. and 1H NMR spectral studies. The data show that the complexes have composition of [M(L)2](NO3)2 and [Fe(L)2 (NO3)2](NO3) where the M=Co(II),Ni(II) and Cu(II) ;L=L1and L2 type. Oily wastewater is one of the most challenging streams to deal with especially if the oil exists in emulsified form. In this study, electrospinning method was used to prepare nanofiberous polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes and study their performance in oil removal. Graphene particles were embedded in the electrospun PVDF membrane to enhance the efficiency of the membranes. The prepared membranes were characterized using a scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to verify the graphene stabilization on the surface of the membrane homogeneously; while FTIR was used to detect the functional groups on the membrane surface.
