This research was interested in studying the phrase “I don’t know” in the Lisan al-Arab dictionary, and Lisan al-Arab was based on collecting its material from five dictionaries, including: Tahdhib al-Lugha, al-Muqamah, al-Sahih, and the footnotes of Ibn Berri, al-Nihaya and Gharib al-Hadith. The aim of this study is to evaluating the antibacterial activity of Laurus nobilis leaves extract in hospital environment isolates. Maceration and Soxhlet apparatus were used to prepare aqueous and methanolic extracts. The total phenolic content and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) were conducted to determine the active compounds in the extracts. The results showed that the methanolic and aqueous extracts contain four flavonoids derivatives (kaempferol, luteolin, quercetin and Rutin) were identified on the basis of matching retention time with the standards. Leishmania is auxotroph to folic acid,antifolates drug inhibit the synthesis and conversion of folate derivatives. In this study, cytotoxic effect of methotrexate was investigated on the procyclic promastigotes proliferation of L. donovani. The results showed a significant (p ≥ 0.05) difference in growth of treated groups at high concentrations (1000, 500, 250, 125.5) μM after 24, 48 hrs., while at 72 hrs. significant difference was observed at all concentration. The IC50 values was measurable after 24, 48 and 72 hrs. and it was 174.238, 52.283 and 109.175 μM, respectively. The present study showed the cytotoxic effect of methotrexate on the proliferation of promastigotes of the visceral type of Leishmania.

Posible interference of vamin with the activity of several antibiotics against E. coli was evaluated in vitro. In MBS- glucose medium, significant growth delay was induced by 8 ug/ml of terramycin (oxytetracycline- polymyxin B) and bactrim (trimethoprim-sulphamethoxazole), and by 16 ug/ml of refocin, lincomycin, and chloramphenicol. Rapid growth inhibition was induced by 32 ug/ml of all an- tibiotic tested separately.
