Removal of Amoxicillin from Water by Adsorption on Water Treatment Residues
...Show More Authors

The presence of residual antibiotics in water results in the development of antibiotics resistant genes. The available wastewater treatment systems are not capable of removing such antibiotics from sewage. Thus, antibiotics need to be removed before the discharge of wastewater. Adsorption is among the promising techniques for the wastewater treatment to aid the removal of a wide range of organic and inorganic pollutants. The present work is a contribution to the search for an economical method for the removal of low concentrations of amoxicillin (AMX) from water by adsorption on water treatment residue, WTR, taken from a local drinking water facility. The chemical composition and the adsorptive characteristics of the material were first evaluated using energy dispersive spectroscopy, EDS, and sorption of methylene blue, respectively. The porous character of the sorbent was modified by ignition. The application of the WTR for the adsorption of AMX was studied under various operating conditions including sorbent dosage, 2-20 g/L at room temperature; contact time 30-240 min.; and initial concentration range of the antibiotic, 0.00004-0.00012 M. facility. To aid the experimental work, statistical software was employed to design the experiments and evaluation of the results. Graphical and mathematical relationships have been established for the adsorption efficiency with the operating conditions. The adsorption capacity was calculated from the plot of the adsorbed drug against the sorbent content and found to be 19.966 µmol/g WTR. The sorption efficiency depends on the initial concentration and being better at low concentration (0.00004 M) and equilibrium time (within 100 mins.). The optimum conditions of the adsorption are: AMX Concentration, 0.00004 M; Contact time. The optimum conditions of the adsorption are: AMX Concentration, 0.00004 M; Contact time, 90 min., and WTR content of 15.5 g/L to give removal efficiency of 89.2%.

Serum Levels of Fetuin-A, Ischemia-modified Albumin (IMA), and Ferritin in Hospitalized patients with severe COVID-19. A Case-control Study
...Show More Authors

Objective: To measure the serum levels of Fetuin-A, ischemia-modified albumin (IMA), and ferritin in hospitalized patients with severe COVID-19in Baghdad, Iraq. Moreover, to determine these biomarkers' cut-off valuesthat differentiate between severely ill patients and control subjects. Methods: This case-control study was done from 15 September to the end of December 2021 and involved a review of the files and collectionof blood samples from patients (n=45, group1) hospitalized in COVID-19 treatment centersbecause of severe symptoms compared tohealthy subjects as controls (n=44, group2). Results: Fetuin-A serum levels were not statistically different between patients and controls. In contrast, IMA and ferritin levels were significan

Oral health status, dental knowledge and behaviors among children and adolescents (8-15) years old in the cities of Baghdad and Thamar
...Show More Authors

Background: Investigating dental health knowledge among children is important. Knowing what behaviors are right in relation to dental health does not guarantee that children will practice those behaviors. However, lack of knowledge and misconceptions about dental health may lead to behaviors that are harmful to teeth and gum. Baseline data on knowledge levels are required to determine which particular areas of dental health education are in need of improvement for high-risk children living in different geographical areas. This research was conducted to study the oral health status, dental knowledge and behavior in relation to two different cities, among children in Baghdad and Thamar (republic of Yemen) governorate. THE ROLE OF ECONOMIC DATA ANALYSIS IN MANAGING MEDIUM AND SMALL COMPANIES TO MAKE STRATEGIC DECISIONS AND IMPROVE PERFORMANCE: AN ANALYTICAL STUDY
...Show More Authors

Economic analysis plays a pivotal role in managerial decision-making processes. This analysis is predicated on deeply understanding economic forces and market factors influencing corporate strategies and decisions. This paper delves into the role of economic data analysis in managing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to make strategic decisions and enhance performance. The study underscores the significance of this approach and its impact on corporate outcomes. The research analyzes annual reports from three companies: Al-Mahfaza for Mobile and Internet Financial Payment and Settlement Services Company Limited, Al-Arab for Electronic Payment Company, and Iraq Electronic Gateway for Financial Services Company. Background: The goal of a root canal treatment is three dimensional obturation with a complete seal of the root canal system. The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the effect of two warm obturation techniques, warm vertical compaction (WVC) and, carrier based obturation technique Gutta Core (GC), versus two cold obturation techniques, cold lateral compaction (CLC) and, single cone (SC) on push-out bond strength of bioceramic sealer (Total Fill) at three different root levels. Materials and Methods: Forty extracted maxillary first molars teeth with a straight round palatal root canal and mature apices were selected for this study. After sectioning the palatal roots to 11 mm from the root apex, the canals were prepared wit

In this work, some of new 2-benzylidenehydrazinecarbothioamide derivatives have been prepared by condensation of thiosemicarbazide and different substituted aromatic benzaldehydes in presence of glacial acetic acid to give compounds (1-6), these compounds have characterized by its physical properties and spectroscopic methods. This work also included theoretical study to prove the ability of these compounds as corrosion inhibitors; The program package of Gaussian 09W with its graphical user interface GaussView 5.0 had used for this purpose; the methods of Density Functional Theory (DFT) with basis set of 6-311G (d,p) / hybrid function of B3LYP and semiempirical method of PM3 have been used, the study included theoretical simulation
