Preparation and Characterization of Poly (D,L-Lactide-Co-Glycolide) Microspheres for Controlled Release of KSL Peptide

The purpose of this research was to prepare, characterize, and evaluate the new antimicrobial peptide  KSL peptide encapsulated in poly(D,L-lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA)composite microspheres. KSL was loaded in poly(acryloyl hydroxyethyl) starch (acHES) micropar-ticles, and then the peptide-containing microparticles were encapsulated in the PLGA matrix by a solvent extraction /evaporation method.

 KSL-loaded PLGA microspheres were also prepared without the starch hydrogel microparticle microspheres for comparison study. KSL peptide microspheres were characterized for drug content, surface morphology, microspheres size determination, polymers stability , in vitro microspheres degradation and in vitro release. KSL peptide encapsulation efficiency resulted in about 98% for RG503 microspheres and AcHES- RG503 composite microspheres. Microspheres mean diameters were 11.12μm  and 28μm for RG503 microspheres and AcHES- -RG503 composite microspheres respectively. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis showed no structural changes in the polymers after KSL peptide loading.  The morphological effects and polymers degradation were analyzed to obtain a better understanding of the mechanism of KSL peptide release from microspheres and composite microspheres. Microspheres incubated in 0.1M phosphate buffer saline, pH 7.4 at 37°C were hydrated and started to degrade as shown by gel permeation chromatography (GPC) analysis. The result indicated that the release of KSL peptide from microspheres was due to the bulk degradation.  In vitro release profile showed that the microspheres type significantly affect the release of KSL peptide. In vitro KSL peptide release after 60 days incubation in 0.1M phosphate buffer saline, pH 7.4 at 37°C were 82.23% and 62.12% from 10% KSL peptide loaded AcHES-RG503 composite microspheres and 10%KSL peptide loaded RG503 microspheres respectively.

Effect of citric and glutamic acids on physiological characteristics and yield of Vicia faba L.

The field experiment was conducted in garden of Department of Biology, College of Education for Pure Sciences (Ibn- Al-Haitham), University of Baghdad during the season of growth (2014-2015). The experiment aimed to study the effect of citric acid with two concentration 10, 20 mg. L-1 and glutamic acid with two concentration 50, 100 mg. L-1 on growth and yield of broad bean (Vicia faba). The results were showed an increased in plant height, leaves number. Plant dry weight, chlorophyll content flowers number, absolute growth rate, crop growth rate, legume length and dry weight, legumes number, seed dry weight compared with control plants.

The morphological and pollen grains study of Tropaeolum L. (Tropaeolaceae) in Iraq

The current study included a detail morphological study of all parts of the two species of the genus Tropaeolum L. (Tropaeolumceae) cultivated in different gardens, the roots, stems, leaves, flowers and fruit were studied in detail, also the pollen grains were studied, and there are photographs for all that parts were putted. A specimens of that taxa were studied in some Iraqi herbaria. The study found that there are many characters were used in differentiation of two species under study.

In this study, the chamomile flowers (Matricaria recutitaL) which grow in Iraqi Kurdistan region during the seasons of (2008) are collected. ANATOMICAL AND PALYNOLOGICAL STUDY OF AGAVE AMERICANA L. (ASPARAGACEAE) GROWING IN IRAQ

The anatomical features of Agave americana L. leaf have been described, transverse sections of the leaf have been examined, the epidermis is single-layered on both surfaces, the stomata are sunken and mesophyll is (2-3) layers of parenchyma cells, vascular bundles are collateral type. The pollen of A. americana was studied. The observation was made with L.M. (Light microscope) and S.E.M. (Scanning electron microscope) to determine the significance of pollen features as taxonomic characters. The pollen was monades, homopolar, monosulcate, and with large size, subprolate in shape from P/E ratio (Polar axis/ Equatorial diameter) and furrow length and width, exine thickness and ornamentation.
