Frequency of Antineutrophil Cytoplasmic Antibodies (ANCA) in Some Autoimmune Diseases
...Show More Authors

Anti-Neutrophil Cytoplasmic Antibodies (ANCA) are a heterogeneous group of autoantibodies with a broad spectrum of clinically associated diseases. The diagnostic value is established for Proteinase 3 (PR3)-ANCA as well as Myeloperoxidase (MPO)-ANCA. To estimate the frequency of anti-neutrophile cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA) in sera from a group of Iraqi patients with some autoimmune diseases compared with a healthy control group. Serum samples were collected from one hundred patient, 47 males and 53 females; with age range of 16-70 years; 20 specimens from patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), 30 from patients with ulcerative colitis (UC), and 50 from patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). A group of 40 apparently healthy blood donors was included as controls. ANCA were checked using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Positive ANCA was detected in sera of 18 (18%) patients with autoimmune disorders. Anti-PR3 was detected in 6 (12%) patients with RA, and in 4(13.4%) patients with UC. Anti-MPO was detected in 3(6%) patients with RA and in 5(16.6%) patients with UC. All serum samples of patients with SLE showed negative ANCA. There were no ANCAs detected in sera from healthy individuals. Mean of serum anti-PR3 (U/ml) among the studied groups was 2.057 in RA, 2.209 in SLE, and 2.283 in UC, and 1.739 in control group. Statistical analysis revealed that differences in the anti-PR3 between RA, UC and controls were highly significant (P > 0.01), whereas just significant with SLE (P> 0.05). Mean of serum of anti-MPO (U/ml) among the studied groups was 0.711 in RA, 0.695 in SLE, and 1.170 in UC, and 0.652 in control group. Statistical analysis revealed that the differences in the anti-MPO between RA and SLE, controls were non significant (P < 0.05), whereas highly significance with UC (P> 0.01).It was concluded that ANCA markers might play a role in the inflammatory process and they are important factors for the clinical course, and prognosis in the patients with autoimmunity. However, ANCA in autoimmune disorders must be interpreted cautiously with particular attention paid to laboratory technique, the size, age and genetic background of the populations studied.

Key words: Rheumatoid Arthritis, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, Ulcerative Colitis, Anti-neutrophile Cytoplasmic Antibodies (ANCA).

Influence of Varying Temperature and Concentration on Magnetohydrodynamics Peristaltic Transport for Jeffrey Fluid with a Nanoparticles Phenomenon through a Rectangular Porous Duct
...Show More Authors

A mathematical model constructed to study the combined effects of the concentration and the thermodiffusion on the nanoparticles of a Jeffrey fluid with a magnetic field effect the process of containing waves in a three-dimensional rectangular porous medium canal. Using the HPM to solve the nonlinear and coupled partial differential equations. Numerical results were obtained for temperature distribution, nanoparticles concentration, velocity, pressure rise, pressure gradient, friction force and stream function. Through the graphs, it was found that the velocity of fluid rises with the increase of a mean rate of volume flow and a magnetic parameter, while the velocity goes down with the increasing a Darcy number and lateral walls. Also, t

Enhancing the Antibacterial Activity of Ciprofloxacin Against Klebsiella pneumoniae by Inhibiting the AcrAB-TolC Efflux Pump System Using Phenylalanine-arginine β-Naphthylamide
...Show More Authors

Background: Klebsiella pneumoniae shows varying degrees of resistance to antibiotic treatment; this resistance arises from multiple mechanisms, including the increased expression of multidrug (MDR) efflux pumps. An efflux pump inhibitor (EPI) is required to overcome this challenge and restore the effectiveness of antibiotics against the present MDR K. pneumoniae. Objective: To investigate the synergistic effect of the EPI Phenylalanine-Arginine β-Naphthylamide (PaβN) and Ciprofloxacin (CIP) on the expression of efflux pump genes AcrAB-TolC, isolated from CIP-resistant K. pneumoniae. Methods: 50 isolates of K. pneumoniae were collected from five different hospitals in Baghdad, Iraq. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values

Background:

Education by lectures has been standard for 100 years or more. Given the 21st century technology, people can connect with others around the world instantly, electronically. With the pandemic, teaching changed to one-way information transfer with the loss of interpersonal learning experience. SNI® and now SNI Digital™ have been experimenting with different forms of communication to transfer information.

Methods:

Using an interactive education model, a meeting for neurosurgeons in Baghdad was held for students, residents, and neurosurgeons

Modified x-ray analysis size strain plot method to determine the lattice stress and strain energy density of calcium titan oxide (CaTiO3) nanoparticles
...Show More Authors

In this research, the size strain plot method was used to estimate the particle size and lattice strain of CaTiO3 nanoparticles. The SSP method was developed to calculate new variables, namely stress, and strain energy, and the results were crystallite size (44.7181794 nm) lattice strain (0.001211), This method has been modified to calculate new variables such as stress and its value (184.3046308X10-3Mpa) and strain energy and its value (1.115833287X10-6 KJm-3).

A Specific NH3 Gas Sensor of a Thick MWCNTs-OH Network for Detection at Room Temperature
...Show More Authors

NH3 gas sensor was fabricated based on deposited of Functionalized Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes (MWCNTs-OH) suspension on filter paper substrates using suspension filtration method. The structural, morphological and optical properties of the MWCNTs film were characterized by XRD, AFM and FTIR techniques. XRD measurement confirmed that the structure of MWCNTs is not affected by the preparation method. The AFM images reflected highly ordered network in the form of a mat. The functional groups and types of bonding have appeared in the FTIR spectra. The fingerprint (C-C stretch) of MWCNTs appears in 1365 cm-1, and the backbone of CNTs observed at 1645 cm-1. This study relates to the estimation of a simultaneous equations system for the Tobit model where the dependent variables ( ) are limited, and this will affect the method to choose the good estimator.
