The Prevalence of Microorganisms in H1N1 Patients Compared to Seasonal Influenza in a Sample of Iraqi Patients
...Show More Authors

This study provides valuable information on secondary microbial infections in H1N1 patients compared to Seasonal Influenza in Iraqi Patients. Nasopharynx  swabs were collected from  (12 ) patients  infected with Seasonal influenza (11  from Baghdad  and 1 Patient from south of Iraq) ,and ( 22 ) samples from patients with 2009 H1N1 ( 20 from Baghdad and  2 from  south of Iraq). The results show that the patients infected with 2009 H1N1 Virus were younger than healthy subjects and those infected with seasonal influenza. And the difference reached to the level of significance     (p< 0.01) compared with healthy subjects. Two cases infected with 2009 H1N1 virus (9.1%) were from south of the Iraq and remaining 20 cases were from Baghdad . Polymicrobial isolates from nasopharynx swab were observed in patients infected with 2009 H1N1 virus. Polybacterial infections (2-7 microorganisms) and fungal infection were reported in 21 out of 22 patients (95.5%) and 5 out of 22 (22.7 %) respectively. The predominant isolated microorganisms were Streptococcus pyogenes , Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pneumoniae  were found in 95.2 %  , 95.2 % and 90.5 %  respectively .The results also show  that seven microorganisms were isolated from 10 (47.6 %) patients infected with 2009 H1N1 , no microorganism was isolated from patients infected with seasonal influenza or healthy persons.

Key words: Seasonal Influenza , 2009 H1N1, Nasopharynx  swabs

Synergistic effect of mountain honey and Argemone mexicana plant on bacteria associated with wound infections
...Show More Authors

Forty five wound specimens were collected from patients suffering from wound infections and taken from various hospitals in Ibb city, Yemen. The study was to determine synergic antibacterial activity of between mountain honey and Argemone mexicana plant. Isolation, identification of bacterial isolates and antibiotic sensitivity test were done. Agar-disc and agar-well diffusion method were carried to determine antibacterial activity of honey, Argemone mexicana plant and a mixture of them against bacterial isolates. Out of 45 specimens, 29 (64.4%) gave positive cultures. Staphylococcus aureus was the predominant bacterial pathogens with percentage (72.4%) followed by Pseudomonas aeruginosa (17.2%) and Staphylococcus epidermidis (10.4%).

An evaluation of waste and well water quality for agriculture production around Erbil city, Iraq
...Show More Authors

Erbil city is located in the northern Iraq with a population of over one million people. Due to water crises farmers usually use wastewater and well water for the agricultural production. In this study six stations were designed to sample waste water and three from well water to define waste water and ground water characteristics. In this study, Residual Na+ Carbonate, Mg++ hazard, salinity hazard, Kelley index, %sodium, total hardness, permeability index, potential salinity, sodium adsorption ratio, and Irrigation Water Quality Index (IWQI) were determined. The order of average cation concentrations in water was Mg2+> Ca2+ > Na+ > K+. While the proportion of main

MOLECULAR MODELLING AND THEORETICAL DESIGN OF NOVEL NIRMATRELVIR DERIVATIVES AS SARS-COV-2 ENTRY INHIBITORS
...Show More Authors

The pandemic SARS-CoV-2 is highly transmittable with its proliferation among nations. This study aims to design and exploring the efficacy of novel nirmatrelvir derivatives as SARS entry inhibitors by adapting a molecular modeling approach combined with theoretical design. The study focuses on the preparation of these derivatives and understanding their effectiveness, with a special focus on their binding affinity to the S protein, which is pivotal for the virus’s access to the host cell. Considering molecular docking aspects in the scope of a study on nirmatrelvir derivatives and S protein, dynamics simulations with 25 nanoseconds of their binding are explored. The study shows that these derivatives might work as effective antivi

Antioxidant, cytotoxicity and phytochemical analysis of Larinus maculates F. cocoon aqueous extract against lung cancer
...Show More Authors
Abstract<p>Cocoon of larva Larinus maculates F. from Curculionidae family (Echinops species), locally in Iraq known as Tihan, is one of traditional folk medicine used in the treatment of diversity respiratory system and fever. This study was carried out to assess the bioactive component and the antioxidant capability of aqueous beetle cocoon extract (Larinus maculates F.) along with its possible cytotoxic activity against A549 lung cancer cell line. For phytochemical analysis gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) was used, and to detected free scavenging activity 2, 2-diphenyl-1 picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) was used</p> ... Show More

Performance of Strelitzia reginae Flowers Dye as Sensitizer for New Dye-Sensitized Solar Cell Fabrication
...Show More Authors

In current study, the dye from flowers petals of Strelitzia reginae used for the first time to prepare natural photosensitizer for DSSC fabrication. Among five different solvents used to extract the natural dye from S. reginae flowers, the ethanol extract of anthocyanin dye revealed higher absorption spectrum of 0.757a.u. at wavelength of 454nm.  A major effect of temperature was studied to increase the extraction yield. The results show that the optimal temperature was 70 °C and there was a sharp decrease of dye concentration from 0.827 at temperature of 70 °C to 0.521 at temperature of 90°C. The extract solution of flowers of S. reginae showed higher concentration in acidic media, especially at pH 4 (0.902). The
