Schiff bases, named after Hugo Schiff, are aldehyde- or ketone-like compounds in which the carbonyl group is replaced by imine or azomethine group. They are widely used for industrial purposes and also have a broad range of applications as antioxidants. An overview of antioxidant applications of Schiff bases and their complexes is discussed in this review. A brief history of the synthesis and reactivity of Schiff bases and their complexes is presented. Factors of antioxidants are illustrated and discussed. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Two series of bent and liner core mesogen containing 1,2,4-traizole ring [VI]a,g and series were synthesized by many steps starting from esterification of isophthalic acid and terephathalic acid with methanol to yield diester compound [I]a,b which was converted to their acid hydrazide [II]a,b and the acid hydrazide reacted with ammonium thiocyanate or diester reacted with thiosemicarbazide to yield compounds [III]a,b. This paper presents an approach to license plate localization and recognition. A proposed method is designed to control the opening of door gate based on the recognition of the license plates number in Iraq. In general the system consists of four stages; Image capturing, License plate cropping, character segmentation and character recognition. In the first stage, the vehicle photo is taken from standard camera placed on the door gate with a specific distance from the front of vehicle to be processed by our system.
