Therapeutic Effects of Vitamin E in Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease: An Open-Labeled Clinical Trial
...Show More Authors

Abstract: non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is one of the widespread chronic liver diseases; it is ranging from simple fat buildup in the liver (steatosis) to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) presence of inflammation and hepatocyte injury.                                                                                                                                                                                                          This study aims to assess the effect of vitamin E on the degree of fatty infiltration in the liver, liver enzymes, and lipid profile.

A prospective open-labeled clinical trial involved (39) Participants diagnosed with NAFLD depending on ultrasonography findings, they were administered vitamin E 800IU\day for 12wks and advised to take low fat, low carbohydrate diet and to do regular sport. Steatosis score, liver enzymes, fasting blood sugar and lipid profile were measured at baseline and repeated at 4wks and 12wks of the study period.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Results of this study found that vitamin E reduces steatosis score significantly at 12wks (p=0.0001), while liver enzymes ALT and ALP did not show significant difference throughout the study period at 12wks (p=0.081 for ALT, P=0.117 for ALP) only AST showed significant difference ( p=0.008 at 12wks ), total cholesterol and triglyceride were reduced significantly (p=0.0001 for both) at 4wks and 12wks where HDL and fasting blood glucose were not altered significantly through the study period.  In conclusion, vitamin E and lifestyle modifications have a positive impact on patients with NAFLD by reducing steatosis score, lipid profile, and BMI

Study of cytotoxic Effects Alcoholic Nerium Oleander L. Extract on female Albino mice
...Show More Authors

This study involved the evaluation of Alcoholic extract of Nerium Oleander L. plant that have a promising anticancer cell. This extract was compared to the well known anticancer drug Cis – Platinum by utilizing an in vivo system in female Albino mice. The first direction was cytogenetically using the mitotic Index of bone marrow cells as a parameter for the cytotoxic effect of this extract. The second direction was enzymatical using a widely distributed enzyme GOT in the different organs of mice: Liver , kidney , spleen and lung . Animals were treated with three doses of Cis-platin , 50 , 200 and 350 Mg/mouse for three days . The same doses were used for the other extract . This study showed that the extract have a promising anticance

Evaluating the Effects of Different Doses of Vitamin B2 and Single Dose of Vitamin B12 Against Myelosuppression Induced by Cyclophosphamide in Experimental Rats
...Show More Authors

Cyclophosphamide is chemotherapeutic agent that utilized for the treatment of different malignancies; however its’ used associated with numerous adverse effects. Vitamin B2 and vitamin B12 suggested having myeloprotective effect. This work is designed to investigate the myeloprotective effect of both vitamins against cyclophosphamide induced myelosuppression. One hundred adult rats of both sexes were used in this study. The animals were randomly enrolled into ten groups of 10 rats each. Group I: Control group. Group II: Cyclophosphamide-treated. Group III and Group IV Orally-administered vitamin B2 (10, and 40 mg/kg/day), respectively alone for 7 days. Group V:

Effect of Ergotamine and its Combination with Vitamin E or Melatonin on Total Antioxidant Status in Migraine Patients
...Show More Authors

Free radicals and oxidative damage caused by them have being suggested to be involved in the pathogenesis of migraine. These may result from distorted equilibrium of pro-oxidant/anti-oxidant system that continuously generates and detoxifies oxidants during normal aerobic metabolism. Escape of such system from equilibrium leads to damage of cellular elements with the depletion of cellular stores of anti-oxidants material such as glutathione and vitamin E. Therefore, free radical scavengers (vitamin E or melatonin) seems to be of potential benefit as prophylactic anti-migraine therapy by neutralizing free radicals overproduction and possibly preventing formation of highly toxic intermediates (such as nitric oxide). In addition of being pow

Impacts of simultaneous administration of omega-3 fatty acids with amoxicillin/clavulanic acid on albino rats' liver and bile
...Show More Authors

Most drugs undergo some metabolism in the liver before excretion by the kidneys or bile. Thus, it is not surprising that liver injury may be provoked due to its exposure to various drugs and compounds. Drug-induced cholestatic liver injury may occur particularly under conditions of increased drug concentrations, genetic alterations in expression of enzymes or transporters. Additionally, the drug-induced cholestasis can be caused by direct toxic effects of drugs or their metabolites on different hepatic cell types or through an immune-mediated process. Amoxicillin/ clavulanic acid, an antibiotic that is therapeutically utilized for the treatment of a number of bacterial infections. Omega-3 fatty acids are unsaturated fatty acids that have ro
