Possible Protective Effects of Omega 3, Diazepam and their Combination Against Yohimbine-Induced Clonic Seizure in Mice: Comparative Study
...Show More Authors

Yohimbine is actually confirmed in the United States to be utilized for erectile dysfunction; and recently such drug has become commonly used in body-building communities for its presumed lipolytic and sympathomimetic effects. But ingestion of such drug can bring about epileptic neurotoxic effects.

Many antiepileptic drugs can be utilized to counteract myoclonic seizure; furthermore, diazepam can be used to oppose such type of seizure; in addition, surrogate therapeutic options such as omega 3 may also be utilized.

In this study, twenty-four (24) mice of both sexes weighing 20-25g were randomly-allocated into 4 groups (6 animals each group) as follows: Group I- Yohimbine-induced clonic seizure [mice orally-administered DMSO (10%), and after 30 min, animals Sc. injected with 45mg/kg yohimbine). Group II- Diazepam-treated as standard drug: It is Sc. injected at a dose of 2mg/kg, and after 30 minutes, yohimbine at a dose of 45mg/kg is Sc. injected. Group III- Omega 3 (40 mg/kg) is orally-administered, and after 30 min 45mg/kg yohimbine is Sc. injected. Group IV- Combination of omega 3 (40mg/kg) is orally-administered then and after ten minutes, diazepam was IP injected 2mg/kg then after 20 minute, 45mg/kg yohimbine is Sc. Injected.

The result of this study showed that omega 3 has non-optimal antiepileptic effect; where, it is un-able to reduce the onset and frequency of epilepsy tone in mice during several time periods (30-120min); and data weren’t  significantly different when compared to diazepam. But omega 3 reduced onset of epilepsy in combination with diazepam when compared with diazepam alone.  As well as omega 3 caused small percent changes frequency of epilepsy tone through 120 min when compared with other groups.

Conclusion: Omega 3 fatty acid had partial beneficial effect; where, alone it has a role for decreasing onset of epilepsy; but, its combination with diazepam had significant role for reducing onset of epilepsy against yohimbine-induced seizure model. Additionally, omega 3 alone and in combination with diazepam have negligible role for reduction frequency of epilepsy.

Study of Molecular Interactions of Water- Soluble Polymer at Several Temperatures in Solution
...Show More Authors

Molecular interactions between 2-isopropenylnaphthalene-methacrylic acid (IPNMA) block copolymer( as a model for water- soluble polymer) and methanol at several temperatures were studied using fluorescence techniques , Fluorescence spectrum for (IPNMA) exhibits two emission bands at around 342 nm and 387 nm corresponding to the monomer and the excimer bands , respectively .The fluorescence spectra of dilute solution of (IPNMA) in methanol were recorded in temperature range of 8- 45?C . Plot of the excimer to monomer intensity ratio Ie/Im versus temperature was obtained, which shows double lines with positive slopes crossing at 25?C , the increasing of slope value above this temperature is s

...Show More Authors

The majority of Iraqi translator-student have problems at two main levels: the conceptual level and the productive level. From different perspectives, such problems are either related to ‘language’ or to ‘cognition’. This binary view is an indication to the implicit and interchangeable relationship between language and cognition. The relationship between cognition language and translator starts with the first language and its effect on the Iraqi translators. Identifying the effect is the aim of the present study. It is hypothesized that Iraqi students are negatively influenced by the problems and weaknesses of first language schema. This reflects the major claim and later concludes that first language instruction in the Iraq

In his masterpiece ’The Prophet’, Kahlil Gibran presents his unwavering faith and passionate belief in the healing power of universal love that brings humans to sublime ideas and elevates their souls and behavior. The current study aims to find out the stylistic devices utilized to represent the concept of love based on the hypothesis that Gibran tends to use certain stylistic effects to convey his meaning. The study adopts Leech and Short’s (2007) framework of stylistic analysis to analyze the lexical items and figures of speech in selected extracts from the book. The findings reveal that Gibran prefers concrete nouns, dynamic verbs, and physical adjectives over abstract nouns, stative verbs, and psychological adjectives to s

Breast tumor patients generally have more oxidative stress than normal females. This was clear from significant decrease (P<0.05) in tissue GSSG-Red activity. The study had found that free radicals in malignant breast tumors were higher than benign tumors, therefore the GSH- Red might be used as markers for prognosis of the disease. Results of molecular characterization show optimum enzyme concentration substrate conc., optimum pH, temperature & time & effect of some (chemotherapies in constant conectrations) for GSSG-Red activity.
