Modeling Rate of Penetration using Artificial Intelligent System and Multiple Regression Analysis
...Show More Authors
Abstract<p>Over the years, the prediction of penetration rate (ROP) has played a key rule for drilling engineers due it is effect on the optimization of various parameters that related to substantial cost saving. Many researchers have continually worked to optimize penetration rate. A major issue with most published studies is that there is no simple model currently available to guarantee the ROP prediction.</p><p>The main objective of this study is to further improve ROP prediction using two predictive methods, multiple regression analysis (MRA) and artificial neural networks (ANNs). A field case in SE Iraq was conducted to predict the ROP from a large number of parameters. A databases from one well drilled in carbonate environments were subjected to the predictive methods. Each raw dataset is described by eight parameters including rate of penetration (ROP), true vertical depth (TVD), weight on bit (WOB), bit rotational speed (RPM), torque (TQ), flow rate (Q), equivalent circulating density (ECD), standpipe pressure (SPP), and unconfined compressive strength (UCS). First, both MRA and ANNs are tested as predictive methods. The prediction capacity of each model was also verified by using two-based error metrics: the determination coefficient (R2) and the mean square error (MSE).</p><p>The current results support the evidence that MRA and ANNs are able to be effectively utilize the drilling data, and thus provide accurate ROP prediction. However, more attention to the multiple regression analysis is required where it is implemented for ROP prediction. ANNs appear to be more conservative in predicting ROP than MRA as indicated by a higher value R2 (0.96) and lower value MSE (1.89) of the ANN model. Considering the input parameters, the obtained results showed that TVD, WOB, RPM, SPP, and ECD had the greatest effect on estimated ROP-conditions, followed in decreasing by pump flow rate, drilling torque, and rock strength. Another important point that highlights in this study is that the drilling rate may increase with depth in carbonate rocks because of their heterogeneity. This study presents new models to estimate ROP from other parameters which can help the driller to achieve an optimal drilling rate through monitoring controllable parameters.</p>

AXIAL FAN BEARING SYSTEM VIBRATION ANALYSIS
...Show More Authors

Rotating fan shaft system was investigated experimentally and theoretically to study its dynamic performance. The type of oil used for the bearing was taken in consideration during the experimental program .Three types of oil were used, SAE 40, SAE 50 and degraded oil. During the experiments, the fan blades stagger angle was changed through angles (20˚, 30˚, 40˚, and 50˚). The shaft rotational speed also changed in the range of (0-3000 rpm). All these parameters have investigated for two cases (balanced and unbalanced fan). The performance parameters of the fan were found experimentally by measuring the fan, volume flow rate, Reynolds and Strouhal numbers, efficiency and pressure head. Analytical part was also represented to prepare

Correcting Working Postures in Water Pump Assembly Tasks using the OVAKO Work Analysis System (OWAS)
...Show More Authors

Ovako Working Postures Analyzing System (OWAS) is a widely used method for studying awkward working postures in workplaces. This study with OWAS, analyzed working postures for manual material handling of laminations at stacking workstation for water pump assembly line in Electrical Industrial Company (EICO) / Baghdad. A computer program, WinOWAS, was used for the study. In real life workstation was found that more than 26% of the working postures observed were classified as either AC2 (slightly harmful), AC3 (distinctly harmful). Postures that needed to be corrected soon (AC3) and corresponding tasks, were identified. The most stressful tasks observed were grasping, handling, and positioning of the laminations from workers. The construct

Evaluation of the Performance of Kernel Non-parametric Regression and Ordinary Least Squares Regression
...Show More Authors

Researchers need to understand the differences between parametric and nonparametric regression models and how they work with available information about the relationship between response and explanatory variables and the distribution of random errors. This paper proposes a new nonparametric regression function for the kernel and employs it with the Nadaraya-Watson kernel estimator method and the Gaussian kernel function. The proposed kernel function (AMS) is then compared to the Gaussian kernel and the traditional parametric method, the ordinary least squares method (OLS). The objective of this study is to examine the effectiveness of nonparametric regression and identify the best-performing model when employing the Nadaraya-Watson

Predicting Fruit’s Sweetness Using Artificial Intelligence—Case Study: Orange
...Show More Authors

The manual classification of oranges according to their ripeness or flavor takes a long time; furthermore, the classification of ripeness or sweetness by the intensity of the fruit’s color is not uniform between fruit varieties. Sweetness and color are important factors in evaluating the fruits, the fruit’s color may affect the perception of its sweetness. This article aims to study the possibility of predicting the sweetness of orange fruits based on artificial intelligence technology by studying the relationship between the RGB values of orange fruits and the sweetness of those fruits by using the Orange data mining tool. The experiment has applied machine learning algorithms to an orange fruit image dataset and performed a co

Comparison between the Methods of Ridge Regression and Liu Type to Estimate the Parameters of the Negative Binomial Regression Model Under Multicollinearity Problem by Using Simulation
...Show More Authors

The problem of Multicollinearity is one of the most common problems, which deal to a large extent with the internal correlation between explanatory variables. This problem is especially Appear in economics and applied research, The problem of Multicollinearity has a negative effect on the regression model, such as oversized variance degree and estimation of parameters that are unstable when we use the Least Square Method ( OLS), Therefore, other methods were used to estimate the parameters of the negative binomial model, including the estimated Ridge Regression Method and the Liu type estimator, The negative binomial regression model is a nonline
