Metabolic syndrome has emerged as an important health concern globally, especially in developing countries where urbanization and lifestyle changes are rapidly increasing. No reliable epidemiological information regarding the prevalence and risk factors associated with metabolic syndrome is available among Iraqi adults in primary health care (PHC) clinics. This study was designed to determine the prevalence rate of metabolic syndrome and identify potential risk factors among adults attending PHC centers in Baghdad. Methods: An analytical cross-sectional study design was used, targeting 412 adult subjects selected randomly from multiple PHC centers in Baghdad. Sociodemographic, lifestyle, anthropometric, and biochemical data were collected. The diagnosis of metabolic syndrome was based on the NCEP ATP III criteria. Data analysis involved the use of the chi-square test, t-test, and multivariate logistic regression. Results The Overall prevalence of metabolic syndrome among adults in Baghdad PHC centers was 38.2%. Females had a significantly higher prevalence than males (44.6% and 29.1%, respectively, p = 0.003). The prevalence increased with age, reaching 57.9% in subjects aged 60 years or older. The top three components of metabolic syndrome included abdominal obesity (61.4%), low HDL-C (54.2%), and hypertension (47.0%). Logistic regression results revealed that the independent significant predictors were age ≥ 45 years (OR = 2.41), female sex (OR = 1.72), BMI ≥ 30 kg/m2 (OR = 3.35), physical inactivity (OR = 1.89), and unhealthy eating habits (OR = 1.57; all p < 0.05). Discussion This paper demonstrates a high prevalence of metabolic syndrome among subjects in the PHC centers of Baghdad. It is obvious that new strategies have to be developed, such as screening, intervention programs for the modification of lifestyle behaviors, and culturally appropriate approaches to obesity, physical inactivity, and malnutrition.
Background: Although they are not life threatening, dental caries and periodontal disease are the most predominant and widely spread oral diseases throughout the world. The aims of the study included the investigation of the prevalence and severity of dental caries, gingivitis and dental plaque in relation to gender, furthermore, the prevalence and severity of the traumatized anterior teeth were assessed. Materials and Methods: This oral health survey was conducted among primary school children aged 9 years old in Al-Diwaniyah city in Iraq. The total sample composed of 600 child (320 males and 280 females) selected randomly from different school in Al-Diwaniyah city. Dia

Total Suspended Particles (TSP) air load was higher than Iraqi Standards and world international allowable limits of World Health Organization. The mean concentrations of gases carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, in the air were within national and world standards, while the mean concentration of nitrogen dioxide was higher than standard limits. The air of the study area is considered a good quality for CO, CO2 and NO2 with no health effect, while it is hazardous for TSP that have serious risk for people with respiratory disease. Malnutrition may affect odontometeric measurement involving arch width and length of primary dentition. The aim of this study is to estimate the effect of nutrition on arch width and length dimension measurements among children aged 5 years old. Material and methods: This study was conducted among malnourished group in comparison to well-nourished group matching with age and gender. The present study included 158 children aged 5 years (78 malnourished and 80 well-nourished). The assessment of nutritional status was done by using three nutritional indicators, namely Height-for-a

In translation, socio-pragmatic failure(SPF), as part of cross-cultural failure, generally refers to a translator's misuse or misunderstanding of the social conditions placed on language in use. In addition, this paper aims to illustrate the importance of SPF in cross-cultural translation via identifying that such kind of failure most likely leads to cross-cultural communication breakdown. Besides, this paper attempts to answer the question of whether translators from English into Arabic or vice versa h
