Prevalence and Determinants of Metabolic Syndrome Among Adults Attending Primary Health Care Centers in Baghdad: A Cross-Sectional Study
...Show More Authors

Metabolic syndrome has emerged as an important health concern globally, especially in developing countries where urbanization and lifestyle changes are rapidly increasing. No reliable epidemiological information regarding the prevalence and risk factors associated with metabolic syndrome is available among Iraqi adults in primary health care (PHC) clinics. This study was designed to determine the prevalence rate of metabolic syndrome and identify potential risk factors among adults attending PHC centers in Baghdad. Methods: An analytical cross-sectional study design was used, targeting 412 adult subjects selected randomly from multiple PHC centers in Baghdad. Sociodemographic, lifestyle, anthropometric, and biochemical data were collected. The diagnosis of metabolic syndrome was based on the NCEP ATP III criteria. Data analysis involved the use of the chi-square test, t-test, and multivariate logistic regression. Results The Overall prevalence of metabolic syndrome among adults in Baghdad PHC centers was 38.2%. Females had a significantly higher prevalence than males (44.6% and 29.1%, respectively, p = 0.003). The prevalence increased with age, reaching 57.9% in subjects aged 60 years or older. The top three components of metabolic syndrome included abdominal obesity (61.4%), low HDL-C (54.2%), and hypertension (47.0%). Logistic regression results revealed that the independent significant predictors were age ≥ 45 years (OR = 2.41), female sex (OR = 1.72), BMI ≥ 30 kg/m2 (OR = 3.35), physical inactivity (OR = 1.89), and unhealthy eating habits (OR = 1.57; all p < 0.05). Discussion This paper demonstrates a high prevalence of metabolic syndrome among subjects in the PHC centers of Baghdad. It is obvious that new strategies have to be developed, such as screening, intervention programs for the modification of lifestyle behaviors, and culturally appropriate approaches to obesity, physical inactivity, and malnutrition.

Effect of chemotherapy on oral health status and salivary alkaline phosphatase among leukemic patients
...Show More Authors

Background: Leukemia is a broad term given to a group of malignant diseases characterized by diffuse replacement of bone marrow with proliferating leukocyte precursors. Chemotherapy has been increasingly used to treat malignant conditions. The systemic sequelae as a result of these immunosuppressive techniques induce many oral and dental complications. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of chemotherapy on oral health status and activity of salivary alkaline phosphates enzyme in patients with acute lymphocytic leukemia. Materials and methods: The study groups included 28 patients with acute lymphocytic leukemia; they were under chemotherapy, aged 20-25 year old. The control group includes healthy subjects matching with study

ABSTRACT Background: work-related musculoskeletal disorders represent an important occupational health issues among dentists especially neck and low back complaints. Biomarkers of tissue damage as results of occupational physical demands could be used for detection of work related musculoskeletal disorders. Aim: The aim of this study was to assess work- related musculoskeletal disorders, physical work load index, selected salivary biomarkers (Creatine kinase and C - reactive protein) and to find the relation among them. Subjects and Methods: Study participants are consisted of 112 dentists. They were selected from college of dentistry /Baghdad University, health care center in Bagdad city. Objectives. This study was carried out to quantitatively evaluate and compare the sealing ability of Endoflas by using differentobturation techniques. Materials and Methods. After 42 extracted primary maxillary incisors and canines were decoronated, theircanals were instrumented with K files of size ranging from #15 to #50. In accordance with the obturation technique, the sampleswere divided into three experimental groups, namely, group I: endodontic pressure syringe, group II: modified disposable syringe, and group III: reamer technique, and two control groups. Dye extraction method was used for leakage evaluation. Data wereanalyzed using one-way ANOVA and Dunnett’s T3 post hoc tests. The level of significance was set at p<0:05. Results.

One of the bigger problems in drinking water is disinfection by-products (DBPs) that come from chlorinated disinfection. This study’s goal was to evaluate the drinking water in Al-Yarmouk Teaching Hospital, Ibn Sina Hospital and Ibn-Al-Nafis Hospital.  Samples were collected between October 2018 and September 2019. Physical and chemical characteristics of the water were studied, including (temperature, hydrogen ion (pH), total dissolved solids (TDS), electrical conductivity (EC), turbidity, free residual chlorine, total organic carbon (TOC), total trihalomethanes (THMs), total halo acetic acid (THAAs)). Data analysis showed the highest value of study temperature, pH, TDS, EC, turbidity, free residual chlorine and TOC which was

Allocate Compatible Locations of TCSC in Baghdad City: A Case Study
...Show More Authors

Power systems are generally required to operate near their maximum capacity. Thus, there is an increased focus on improving real power system capacities through the installation of novel devices, including the Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTs). This paper discusses the optimal incorporation of thyristor-controlled series capacitor (TCSC) in the 400 kV Baghdad grid of the Iraqi network as a suggested method to control the power transfer of a transmission line (TL) and suppress Sub-Synchronous Resonance (SSR). The MATLAB 2019 simulation is executed utilizing the phase angle as an index to select an appropriate TCSC location. Nine places were chosen based on eigenvalues, and three suitable places were determined, where 0.5< X
