يعد البحث والغور في النتاجات الفكرية الجغرافية لأي تخصص دقيق هو نبض الفكر الجغرافي، لكونه يمثل اتجاهات وأفكار لباحثين في مكان وزمان معيين والتي تأتي نتيجة انصهار الباحث في المشاكل اليومية والواقعية للظواهر المجتمعية والتي تحتاج إلى حلول وتغييرات قد تكون بسيطة وسريعة أو جذرية معقدة وطويله الأمد، وجاءت هذه الدراسة لفهم التغيرات الكمية والنوعية لتخصص دقيق لموضوعات الدراسات السكانية في كلية الآداب – جامعة بغداد، وتأتي أهمية الدراسة لتوضيح المسار الذي يسير هذا التخصص واتجاهاتها الفكرية وليكون الهدف في مدى استمرارية عطائهم ونشاطهم المعرفي للموضوع، ولأجل معرفة التغيرات التي تواكب التطور المعرفي في موضوعات طلبة الدراسات العليا في الدراسات السكانية، ومن أجل تسهيل عملية المتابعة والوصول إلى الأهداف المرجوة، وبلغ المجموع الكلي حتى نهاية عام 2023 م للرسائل والأطروحات العلمية 56 دراسة تمثل الدراسات الجغرافية السكانية، وأظهرت النتائج تنوع مكاني وزماني للدراسات من مواضيع ومناهج والذي يدل على تطور الدراسة مع تطور التقنيات والبحث في التفصيلات الدقيقة.
