Hashimoto's Thyroiditis Increases Risk for Differentiated Thyroid Carcinoma
...Show More Authors

Background: Hashimoto's thyroiditis has been found to coexist with differentiated thyroid cancer in surgical specimens, but an association between the two conditions has been discounted by the medical literature. So, we performed this research to determine any potential relationship between Hashimoto's thyroiditis and the risk of developing differentiated thyroid cancer in clinical status. we assessed the related clinical factors linking these conditions, especially serum thyroid-stimulating hormone concentration, family history of thyroid disease, gender& young age group. Aim of study: to determine that hashimoto’s thyroiditis increases risk for differentiated thyroid carcinoma. Patients and method: This study is a Cross-sectional study carried out in surgical ward of Baghdad teaching hospital, where 82 patients followed up for one year from 1/10/2017 to 1/10/2018. Clinical history and examination with thyroid function tests, ultrasound and FNAC done for them pre operatively, post-operatively all thyroid specimen sent for histopathological study. Results: Differentiated thyroid cancer with Hashimoto's thyroiditis patients: (84.6%) had papillary thyroid cancer with Mean age of patients is 37.3±3.3 and Female gender represents 92.3% of differentiated thyroid cancer with Hashimoto's thyroiditis patients. About 53.8%of differentiated thyroid cancer with Hashimoto's thyroiditis patients had high thyroid-stimulating hormone at presentation. About 61.5% of differentiated thyroid cancer with Hashimoto's thyroiditis patients had positive family history of thyroid disease. Most our patients had multinodular goiter 80.5%, only 19.5% had single nodule, in Differentiated thyroid cancer with Hashimoto's thyroiditis patients (papillary thyroid cancer: 81.8% multinodular goiter and18.2% Single nodule, while all Follicular Thyroid Cancer patients had multinodular goiter).Fine needle aspiration biopsy in diagnosis of Hashimoto's thyroiditis pre-operation had Sensitivity 61% & specificity98%.

Cardiovascular risk prediction in women: rethinking traditional approaches through precision medicine
...Show More Authors

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains the leading cause of mortality in women. Estimating cardiovascular risk using prediction models is essential for guiding preventive strategies. Despite progress, conventional risk models still omit critical women-specific factors, limiting their accuracy. Precision medicine, supported by artificial intelligence, provides a framework to integrate these overlooked determinants. This approach may help close existing gaps in cardiovascular risk prediction. Sex-specific biomarkers that contribute to overall cardiovascular risk can be incorporated into risk assessment tools to improve prevention strategies, early detection, and personalized intervention. The integration of imaging-derived variables enh

Seroprevalence of Immunoglobulin G (IgG) and Immunoglobulin M (IgM) and Risk Factors of Toxoplasmosis for A sample of Pregnant Women in Baghdad
...Show More Authors

Background: Toxoplasmosis is a very common infection caused by the obligate intracellular protozoan parasite. This parasite is called Toxoplasma gondii widely distributed around the world . Toxoplasma gondii can be vertically transmitted to the fetus during pregnancy and may cause wide range of clinical manifestations in the offspring.

Objective: To determine seroprevalence Immunoglobulin G (IgG) and Immunoglobulin M  (IgM ) to toxoplasma gondii among pregnant women and to identify the risk factors.

Type of the study: A cross-sectional study.

Methods: A total of 110 blood samples of pregnant women were collected from

Serum and salivary levels of thyroid antibodies (TPO-Ab&Tg-Ab) in the of hypothyroid patients with and without periodontitis
...Show More Authors

Hypothyroidism is the decrease in thyroid hormones production and thyroid gland function. Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is the most common cause of hypothyroidism with production of autoantibodies directed toward autoantigens thyroglobulin (Tg) and thyroid peroxidase (TPO). This study was carried out to determine and compare serum and salivary levels of thyroid antibodies (TPO-Ab and Tg- Ab) in hypothyroid patients (with and without periodontitis) and healthy control; as well as to estimate the possibility to evaluate and measured these antibodies in the saliva as measured in the serum. Serum and saliva samples were collected from sixty hypothyroid patients with age ranged (20-64) years (30 of patients were with periodontitis and 30 without per

POSSIBLE ROLE OF HCMV INFECTION ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF HPV POSITIVE CERVICAL CARCINOMA IN A GROUP OF IRAQI WOMEN
...Show More Authors

The cervical cancer considered as the fourth female prevalent disease worldwide, it was once the most extensively recognized female cancer two in many low-income countries. Human Cytomegalovirus (HCMV) exhibits broader tropism and can cause infection in most of the human body organs. Although, human cytomegalovirus HCMV is not yet considered an oncogenic virus, there is increased evidences of HCMV infection implication in malignant diseases of different cancer types. The present study aims to evaluate the effect of CMV infection on the development of HPV16 positive cervical cancinoma. The current retrospective study enrolled a number of paraffinized cervical cancer tissues .included 30 cervical carcinomatous tissues and 10 biopsies from an

Immunohistochemical evaluation of FHIT and WWOX expression in normal oral mucosa, oral epithelial dysplasia and oral squamous cell carcinoma
...Show More Authors

Background: Oral squamous cell carcinoma is the most prevalent malignant neoplasm of the oral cavity which results from accumulated genetic and epigenetic alterations. It is not always inexorable and may be reversible if early intervention in the process can occur to prevent further genetic mutation and disease progression. The FHIT gene is a tumor suppressor gene located in FRA3B region which is the most active common fragile site, where DNA damage leading to aberrant transcripts and translocations frequently occur. The WWOX is a tumor suppressor gene that plays a central role in tumor suppression through transcriptional repression and apoptosis, with its apoptotic function the more prominent of the two. This study aimed to evaluate and co

Molecular and Phylogenetic Analysis of Human Papillomavirus Using L1 Gene in Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma Patients in Baghdad, Iraq
...Show More Authors

Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the most common malignant neoplasm of the oral mucosa. Human papillomavirus (HPV) virus cause a broad scope of diseases from benign to invasive tumors, types 16 and 18 classified as carcinogenic to humans. This study aimed to provide the first molecular characterization of HPV types in Iraq. Thirty-five unstimulated whole saliva samples were collected from histopathologically confirmed patients with oral cancer were enrolled in this study. Genomic DNA was extracted from exfoliating cells to amplify HPV-DNA using HPV-L1 gene sequence primers by polymerase chain reaction method (PCR), the viral genotyping was performed using direct sequencing method. HPV genotypes identified were deposited in Gen

Immunohistochemical expression of P16 and HER2/neu in normal oral mucosa, oral epithelial dysplasia, and oral squamous cell carcinoma
...Show More Authors

Background: Oncogenesis in the oral cavity is widely believed to result from cumulative genetic alterations that cause a transformation of the mucosa from normal to dysplastic to invasive carcinoma. The p16 gene produces p16 protein, which in turn inhibits phosphorylation of retinoblastoma (Rb), p16 play a significant role in early carcinogenesis. A number of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) family, HER2/neu, has received much attention because of its therapeutic implications. The aims of the study were to evaluate and compare the immunohistochemical expression of the cell cycle protein P16 INK4a and c-erbB2 (HER2/neu) in NOM, OED, and OSCC. Correlate both marker expression with each other as well as with various clinicopathological
