Background: Neudesin is a peptide secreted in brain and adipose tissues that has neural and metabolic functions. Its role as regulator of energy expenditure leads to assumption that its level may be regulated depending on thyroid gland pathology. Objective: This study aimed to investigate serum neudesin levels in patients with thyroidism and to evaluate1 any possible relationship between plasma neudesin levels and thyroid hormone levels. Methods: The study included 100 women with newly diagnosed thyroidisim were subdivided into two groups: hyperthyroidism group (50 female patients with age ranged from 18 to 60 years) and hypothyroidism group (50 female patients with age ranged from 18 to 75 years). A control group (30 healthy females with age ranged from 18 to 70 years) was also included for comparison. Body mass index (BMI) was evaluated. Plasma glucose, lipid profile, triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxin (T4), free T3, free T4, thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), and neudesin levels were evaluated in all participants using ELISA kit. Results: The hyperthyroidism group had significantly (p=0.001) higher serum neudesin concentrations (4.47 ± 2.28 ng/mL) than in hypothyroidism (1.15 ± 0.43 ng/mL) and control groups (1.06 ± 0.36 ng/mL). A correlation analysis applied to the whole study group revealed a positive correlation between serum neudesin concentration and T4 in patients with hypothyroidism. Conclusions: Due to the relation of increased levels of neudesin in hyperthyroidism, neudesin may be related with one of pathophysiologic pathways of thyroidism. Still, it is not certain that higher neudesin level is involved in the pathogenesis of thyroidism or as a result of the disorder.

Background. Nocturnal enuresis (NE), defined as intermittent involuntary urine leakage during sleep, affects approximately 16% of children at age 5 and 10% at age 7, with prevalence declining with age. Aim. To evaluate the urodynamic features of patients with non-monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis (NMNE). Methods. This cross-sectional study was conducted from June 2015 to September 2020 in a surgical subspecialty hospital within a major medical city complex, including 237 patients. Eligible patients were older than seven years, diagnosed with NMNE, and had refractory enuresis, defined as persistent symptoms despite at least six months of continuous medical treatment. All patients underwent a detailed history, bladder diary review, c

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of an educational program for caregivers of persons with spinal cord injuries to prevent pressure injuries in Iraq. A pre- and post-test design was used and involved 25 caregivers of persons with spinal cord injury during the acute care phase in an SCI-specific unit of a hospital. A scale and questionnaire were used to gather the participants’ demographic information, pre- and post-educational program knowledge, and observations of their pre- and post-program performance of pressure injury preventive tasks. Since the measurement of α-amylase activity is the most widely used biochemical test for the diagnosis of pancreatic and non pancreatic disease , therefore serum α-amylase were studied in the present study in an attempt to evaluate the usefulness of this enzyme in the diagnosis of celiac disease and its relationship with anti gliadin IgA and IgG and serum glucose . Thirty one patients with celiac disease were studied and compared with twenty four healthy individuals . Significant elevation of α-amylase activity , glucose and anti gliadin IgA and IgG were observed in the sera of patients with celiac diseas
